About this property

Luxury Lodging, Antiques, Christmas & Gifts where Texas history started

The glorious rooms of this 100 year-old mansion are furnished with fine 19th century american furnishings and decorative accessories from the around the world. Shop the first floor of this 1914 historic property filled with extraordinary antiques, christmas and gifts before retreating to your private spaces furnished and decorated entirely in period antiques. Revive your spirits in a steaming tub of healing salts and soak before you slip into luxurious linens on the immense antique beds of the second and third floors.

The new orleans room is a luxurious space with a private bath featuring an oversized marble-tiled shower and a magnificent antique mahogany queen-sized bed. The bed, a masterpiece of american furniture-making, was created in the 1850s for the new orleans market and is signed by its maker, charles lee. The dream-weaver mattress was specially made to fit the over-queen sized proportions.

Adjoining the new orleans room, the veranda room is a massive bedroom featuring a plantation made full-tester bed and a cannon ball bed, both from the 1840's. The full tester, of rattle and snap plantation provenance, retains it beautifully-restored silk canopy.

The plantation room is a spacious room with a romantically silk-draped half-tester bed of near queen proportions. Adjacent access to the master bath, complete with the original, oversized soaking tub and illuminated by a crystal chandelier make the plantation room a favorite with guests.

The third floor loft apartment is a beautiful open space with a studio kitchen and full bath. The loft features a dining area, office and reading space, and sleeps up to four. It is a comfortable space with amazing views of downtown.

The entire house is equipped with wireless internet. Cable tv is provided in the rooms, and in the breakfast room at the center of the second floor. An ingenious redesign of the original linen closet now conceals a breakfast and wine bar, complete with coffee maker, microwave, fridge and flat screen tv.

The comfortable seating of the spacious porches and courtyards are the perfect places to relax and watch the world drift by.

Great place to experience small town Texas
Really cool historic house above an antique shop. The house was really spacious and great for facilitating my extended family, who had plenty of sleeping options. Rita, the property manager, was amazing. She gave us really good food recommendations as well as good company when we arrived.

Wow! .....Just.... Wow!
When you arrive at Laurel Ridge Inn, you do NOT feel like a visitor, but like a long lost friend, or relative, greeted warmly (but not effusively). Wrapped in the coziness of your arrival, you are escorted upstairs to your "home away" (truly!!) experience. Perhaps a home to which you are accustomed, or perhaps to home to which you aspire: Antique beds and exquisite accommodations. Barbara and her team treat you to a stay filled with attention to detail, and helpful information about the area. Whether you are visiting Gonzales for business or for pleasure, be sure to list Laurel Ridge at the top of your "must stay" destinations.

Our triplets on an outing at Palmetto Park just a few miles outside of Gonzales. It is one of my very favorite places and has been since I was their age. When you are done feasting, shopping, touring and tapping your foot to some great Texas music in downtown history-rich Gonzales, head to Palmetto State Park for some outdoor fun!

Why they chose this property

We love being close enough to downtown for our visitors to be able to walk to great restaurants, museums and shopping. But to tell the truth, this amazing place has been in my family for almost 50 years...It is a labor of love, and we love to share it.

What makes this property unique

The construction of this 1914 jewel of Gonzales is an amazing story it itself. With its solid brick columns and granite front porch, a sweeping, self-supported private veranda, along with a spacious deck the rooms of second floor provides the perfect setting for romantic getaways & family gatherings. The first floor sets the stage for what we call Shopping Sleepovers! The first floor shop offers fine American antique furniture of the 19th Century and Estate jewelry. Over a dozen regional artisans, along with some of the European glass and Christmas treasure filled the shelves to overflowing.
You can shop late, and sleep late all at the same historic property!
