Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday condo in Old San Juan

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

This beautifully renovated colonial apartment has one of the best views in all of Old San Juan. From its three big balcony windows you look out over the 500 year-old San Cristobal Castle and over the city walls, onto a panoramic ocean view. Swing the Spanish shutters open and let the sun and ocean breeze into your bedroom in the morning. Pull up a chair and read a book looking out over the Atlantic. It's a wonderful place to relax for a week or more (**5 night minimum stay please**)

The apartment is spacious (1150 square feet) and architecturally designed with very high ceilings and interior archways. It’s on the second floor of a bright blue colonial two-story building and takes up the entire ocean view side (the entrance is on Calle del Sol but the apartment is actually on Calle Norzagaray so the views are unobstructed). It has two bedrooms - a master bedroom (with the view right from your bed) and a very nice medium-sized bedroom - each with its own Spanish-tiled bathroom for privacy. The living room space, dining area and kitchen are all open, and connect to an indoor patio where the occasional afternoon rain can be heard coming down through the open skylight. This also allows for a refreshing cross-ventilation, so the air conditioners are usually only necessary on very hot days. The place is furnished with traditional plantation-style furniture in dark hardwood - the two queen beds are modern and comfy.

We love this apartment, and if you’re like us you might be tempted to spend a lot of time just relaxing inside, but you have to get out and experience Old San Juan. The location is super-convenient:

• You’re right next to the San Cristobal Castle which, along with El Morro just a few blocks away, are the two oldest and best restored military fortresses in the Western hemisphere.

• There is a scenic walk (or free trolley) along the city wall connecting the two castles, with grassy parks along the way where the locals fly kites (you can buy a kite for $3 from the guy who sells piraguas from a cart).

• Walk 10 minutes the other way and you get to a nice small beach, and a little further is a bigger beach and then Condado, the more modern and trendy side of San Juan.

• There are great restaurants and bars within a few blocks of the apartment, as well as live music, great shopping, art galleries, quaint museums, and all the necessary conveniences (supermarket, pharmacy, etc).

• All of the main historic sites are within a 10-minute walk. Most of the streets in the area are made of Italian blue cobblestone that dates back to the 16th century, and the whole place - pastel buildings, lively people, artsy vibe, and tropical warmth - feels like unique little jewel.

Don’t waste your money on a hotel with no view, no kitchen, and no privacy, or on a standard apartment that’s more or less the same as any other. Stay in our wonderful condo and be part of the real Old San Juan experience. **please note: the apartment is in a residential building - guests must be willing to respect our rules and maintain a peaceful and quiet environment. No parties or loud behavior is allowed, and mature guests are preferred.

Great rental in San Juan

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Alex and Monica's apartment in Old San Juan was exactly what we expected! We stayed for a week in March with our teenagers and the apartment met all of our needs with all the amenities described. Loved waking up to the view and the sound of the ocean every morning. The location is convenient for walking to everything Old San Juan has to offer. If you want to live like a local, then you will love this rental.

Beautiful apartment...Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We had two couples staying here for 6 nights. We had a great time. The apartment lived up to all as stated on VRBO. It is in a great location and is a really nice place. We walked everywhere and just caught a cab down the street a few blocks away when we wanted to go to the anywhere outside of Old San Juan. As stated by other reviewers, the street outside the master bedroom can be a bit noisy...But with air conditioner on at night it's very quiet. We loved coming back and relaxing in the living room after a day exploring ...with the doors open , the wonderful breeze coming in and enjoying a cocktail and listening to the ocean. The owners were so great to work with. We had no issues with anything. We will definitely stay here again if we come back to Old Sam Juan

Perfectly located!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was everything we hoped for and more! My husband and I "lived" in Alex and Monica's wonderful apt for 4 weeks during the most awful New England winter. It was very spacious for the two of us and still very comfortable when friends visited. The 2 bedrooms each have an attached bathroom with shower, plenty of dresser storage and hangers in the closets. Each also has an a/c unit if needed. There is a beautiful desk in the LR where we could look directly onto the ocean and enjoy the breezes while catching up on emails. This was my husbands favorite spot! The kitchen is well supplied and open to the rest of the apt. We didn't do alot of cooking since there are so many wonderful places to eat. We especially enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches from Cafe Mallorca, empanadas from Mate at the bottom of O'Donnell St., the rooftop and mezzanine of St Germaine Bistro, and El Patio de Sam at the end of Calle Sol. You don't need a car to get around. Taxis que up in Plaza Colon down the street. We rented a car twice from the Sheraton Hotel (prices very reasonable) and explored the west coast and Ponce and then El Yunque and Luquillo Beach. It really is a very diverse island. We went to a beach almost everyday. Either walked to El Capitollio (8 min) or taxied ($12-15) or walked (30 min) to Playa Escambron. Each are stunningly beautiful! Old San Juan is a city of hills and the walk from the piers to the apt is uphill. Also, there are about 25 steps up to the apt door once you're in the front gate. We enjoyed the exercise! Alex and Monica were wonderful to work with. It is the Caribbean and it gets very warm, but the best part of each day was coming back to the apt and opening the shutters to the ocean breeze. We'd love to go back again!

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

Alex and Monica's apartment is great and very comfortable. We had 4 adults and enjoyed our stay in Old San Juan very much. The view and ocean breeze is something that we will remember forever. The apartment is in a great location for walking to great restaurants and entertainment, both of which will not disapoint. Be adventurous and rent a car as there are so many beautiful places to explore. You will not be disappointed in any of it and certainly coming home to this place was a joy. Rent it and ENJOY!

Great homey apartment

  • 5 of 5

We recently rented this wonderful apartment in Old San Juan. I really felt like I was staying with friends. There was coffee in the cupboard and cream in the refrigerator which started our first day off right! The view out of the master bedroom and living room was beautiful. We did not need to rent a car because there was a taxi stand within walking distance for travel but everything in Old San Juan is in walking distance. We had a couple of very minor problems and had to call the owner but he was on the phone back to us within 30 minutes and the problems were fixed immediately. I really appreciated being able to contact the owner at any time. The only small drawback is that the master bedroom is on a busy street. This was only a problem on Saturday night. The rest of the time we fell asleep to the sound of the ocean. I would definitely recommend this wonderful get away and hope to stay there again in the future.
