Beautiful 4 bedroom 2 bath Long Island home nestled in the historic village of Saint James on the North Shore. This space is the main floor of a ranch house located a convenient 60 miles away from New York City but a world away in vacation experience. It is easily accessible by car or train.

The house is on 3 acres of land, secluded from the local road by a long driveway, and surrounded by woods. There is a spacious living room, a separate dining room with seating for 8, and a large, warm eat-in kitchen. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and a separate, enclosed porch and veranda. Two other bedrooms have full size beds and a fourth bedroom has a pair of twin beds perfect for kids. The home has lots of light and free WiFi. Other amenities include hardwood floors, a wood burning fireplace, an outdoor grill, spacious lawns for kids to play or just to soak up the sun.

The house is located about 5 minutes from local beaches which border the Long Island Sound. The surf is quiet, the sand is white, and the beaches stretch for miles. Lots of watersports, including sailing, windsurfing, fishing and canoeing are available nearby. Nearby horse farms offer horseback riding and nearly every road in the village is great for bicycling.

From home, it's an easy trip to the Hamptons for shopping and ogling celebrities, Montauk Point for a deep sea fishing expedition, or Jones Beach to listen to an open air concert. There also excellent shopping at the Smithhaven Mall (about a 10 minute drive) and a host of other discount outlets that dot Long Island's North Shore. Other fun activities include in-season strawberry and pumpkin picking at local farms, browsing local yard sales on the weekends, visiting Robert Moses State Park or Fire Island for a dip in the ocean.

One of the pleasures of the Long Island experience is the local dining and shops. Multiple excellent and innovative restaurants are within a 10 minute drive and the village of Saint James, a mile away, provides easy access to everything you might need to make your stay more enjoyable, including supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, post office and ice cream shop.

This quiet home is great for a weekend or midweek getaway from the craziness of urban life. It is also perfect for a summer retreat of sand, sea, & sun. The space available for a stay is the main floor of the ranch home. There is a separate apartment in the lower level which has it's own entrance and is not for rent. There is a shared washer & dryer on the lower level.

My husband & I live in New York City with our two young daughters and love to travel.

This house has been used as a summer home and weekend getaway in my family for years. We live in New York City (about 75 minutes away) and spend lots of weekends at the house with the kids gping to the beach or browsing the yard sales. It is an antidote to high stress living, close to both New York & the Hamptons. The huge yard is very secluded and the experience is peaceful.

Spacious, secluded home that provides a relaxing weekend and summertime getaway. Easily accomodates 8 people in 4 bedrooms with 2 baths. Just a 75 minute drive or train ride from NY City. Near gentle beaches off the Long Island Sound. Short drive to the Hamptons, Montauk Point for fishing, or Jones Beach for concerts. Excellent shopping and restaurants near by.

The house was set back from the road and there was a nice area for a cookout under the trees. I purchased fresh sheets for the beds because the ones at the house were well used. We had a terrible time with ants in the kitchen and in the couches in the living room. The kitchen itself was good and updated. And the stove and oven were quite efficient. It was good when the family came for dinner. There was plenty of room for everyone.

WINTER WONDERLAND

My family stayed at Estela's house Feb. 14-18th and we were very happy with our accommodations. Since there were several snow storms, we were worried about the driveway, etc., but when we arrived, the groundskeeper was there and had the walks shoveled and driveway plowed. Communication was excellent between the owner and house manager. We had a great time playing in the snow! The house was cozy and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was pretty well childproofed for my 1 and 2 yr olds! There were plenty of linens available. The house was huge so my family and I had enough space. We really enjoyed the record player! Overall a great stay and would definitely stay there again.

WINTER VACATION!

Once again we reserved Estela's wonderful Smithtown house for our annual trip out to see relatives on Long Island. We are starting to feel as if this is our very own little house on the east coast and it is fantastic! Some changes were made since our last trip our (Nov.'12) and we were thrilled with the property that time. The upgrades were the basement is now refurbished and has a fun play area complete with foosball table and big TV and couches for lounging. There is a small kitchen in the basement (we did not use it) and the laundry (which we did and were very grateful for!) The main floor was pretty much unchanged from our last visit and still as cozy as ever. Weather was fantastic though a bit on the chilly side and we were just in time to see all the red leaves fall from the huge tree in the front yard. Our last visit was in December so most of the leaves were already gone by then.
Once again, Estela was super communicative and helpful, always ready to answer anything that would come up even while we were there. I know how busy she is as many of us are but still that personal touch is very important and we appreciate her attention to detail. There were four of us who stayed and we had more than enough room and were very comfortable. Again we hosted a family dinner with 13 people and had enough room and a super time entertaining in the big dining room with a traditional italian dinner I cooked myself. Did more exploring of Long Island and got to see the "Big Duck" and King's Park Psyche Hospital this trip as well as went into the city to see Wicked (finally!) and do a few other things. Hoping to get back out to NYC before winter next year and I'm already getting stressed out in case my favorite place isn't available for us! I better book early, right?? Thank you again, Estela, and I would highly recommend this place for a trip to NY.

OWNER DID NOT RETURN DEPOSIT AND WILL NOT RESPOND TO COMMUNICATION

We had a very nice stay at the property. It's very large, features well kept grounds, and easily sleeps the number of people advertised. It is convenient to activities on Long Island and is an hour and a half train ride away from Manhattan.

Unfortunately I am forced to leave a negative review due to the owner's failure to return our deposit. The owner states that the deposit will be returned within 7 days, and as of 18 days from our stay we have not received our deposit. Additionally the owner has not responded to any communication attempts we have made in an effort to resolve this. We left the property neat and complied with instructions for check out. As I stated no explanation was given regarding the failure to return the deposit.

We were also forced to buy box fans for the bedrooms due to the lack of air-conditioning in the house. There is one window unit that cools only the dining room. In the heat of the summer this is inadequate and the house is advertised as "air conditioned." The owner should invest in a few more window units for the house. The fans we purchased were left at the house as the owner stated that she would reimburse us for their cost. We have not received this reimbursement as of 18 days after our stay.

In light of the issues detailed above, I cannot recommend renting this property. If the owner contacts us to resolve this issue I will update the review.

FAMILY RETREAT

We spent 5 nights in this beautiful spot. What an awesome time of year to spend on Long Island - the grounds were lovely with flowering bushes and lots of green space to enjoy. Our family spent time here while attending our daughter's graduation from SUNY Stonybrook. We enjoyed our time here so much as there was room for us to spread out and enjoy quiet spots to sit and visit. The kitchen area worked really well - lots of space for everyone to help prepare meals and to visit, while the dining area was perfect for dinners together. Estela, you made the total experience of working through rental details, and our stay both enjoyable and refreshing! Thanks for sharing your lovely piece of Long Island with us!!
