I live in Darwin, Northern Territory. I grew up in the cold country of Cooma NSW, left there at 17 and travelled round Australia and living in various parts of Qld, WA, and NT. Finally settling down permanently in the Territory 35 years ago. Our businesses were in the NT but we loved QLD for holidays. When not travelling overseas - we holidayed in Queensland.
Lorraine Buntine purchased this house in 2005
We often travelled to QLD and when we saw the place advertised for sale ( it was very run down)we put in an offer and purchased the place. It was very run down and it was a real challenge to renovate a house on an island. The house is totally environmentally friendly. It is a place that couples can enjoy a romantic break, or friends can enjoy buddymoons and families can enjoy a holiday without the crowds. For people who enjoy their privacy, Bedarra is the place to be.
Have your chance to live the dream on a tropical island escape.
The island has resident caretakers to meet you at the boat on arrival and assist with your luggage and supplies to the house. They will give you an orientation of the house and island. They will also assist you with your departure.
There are no shops on Bedarra so you have to take all your supplies with you. There is a large supermarket and liquor store in Mission Beach (this is where you catch the boat) where you can do your own shopping - or this can be arranged for you ( 20% surcharge on cost of items)
An absolute paradise. In November 2013 we had a girls’ week away on the island. The large open living area was perfect for us. Everything has been thought of, spacious, clean and beautifully decorated with fantastic views of Dunk and Twin Islands. There is a library, CD and DVD player, TV and a great array of board games. The kitchen was equipped with all new appliances and there is an outdoor pizza oven and bar-b-que. The bedrooms are separated from the main living area, both have their own magnificent bathrooms and very comfortable beds. The house is a short walk from 2 amazing beaches where we swam, relaxed and soaked up the sun. We also took the walking tracks around the accessible part of the island and up to one of the lookouts to the most glorious views. It was so quiet and relaxing, I’ll be going back!
Congratulations Lorraine, you have ticked all the right boxes.
A short boat trip from Mission Beach took us to Bedarra Island for the ultimate holiday experience. Arriving on the white sandy beach of Bedarra we were greeted by the personal guide and our luggage was taken to our accommodation where we were shown around.
Our rental was clean, well maintained and an information booklet provided for our convenience.
We found the island offers plenty of things to do these include,
swimming, canoeing and snorkling in the crystal clear waters where there is an abundance of coral and reef fish to be found.
Walking the Islands paths to watch the wildlife and up to the lookout where you can take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding islands or just lazing around playing board games, reading books and watching DVD's! Or just sitting and taking in the surrounds.
We even built a fire on the beach one night, roasted marshmallows and lazed away the time listing to the sounds of the sea.
Waking up to those breath taking views every morning made you realise you were in paradise if only for a short time.
This is one place that we have placed on our return too list and I highly recommend it to all.
Thank you for opening your home.
What an amazing time! Beautiful property, clean & spacious with uninterrupted views. Would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to truly 'get away' for a bit of rest & relaxation. Will definitely be back. Thank you!
