I live in Siesta Key, Florida and spend months at a time at 'One Rhythm Villa' in Jamaica. Doing this, I feel good and at home...I am grateful..I always Love it when family and friends find their way for a visit...
I especially favor this location because it is private, quiet and on the seaside.I Love the Sea. When I first came upon this area, it was an instant knowing for me that I would one day be at home here in Jamaica. That was almost 15 years ago. When I first saw the Sea, it was full of so many different shades of turquoise that I could not look away.... so I just sat in gratitude of the beauty surrounding me & took it all in.
One Rhythm Villa opens up to the outside gardens and sitting areas, it is like having a flower garden inside. There is a gentle sea breeze that flows through the villa most all day. Jamaica gives me the feeling that I am always in Love.....I am blessed!

Just wanted to write as I have been thinking about your home and community in Jamaica constantly since returning in the spring. The time spent there with Annette and Johnny will forever be in our hearts. Those two people are some of the best that we have ever had the pleasure of spending time with . Their gifts of connection and intuition in being with new people are really incredible. I can't imagine that there would be anyone who could fill Annettes's shoes as far as providing the level of insight, kind support and hospitality that she does.
Brian and I are dreaming about when we can come back! Trelawny is a most special community and the way of life and perspective of the folks that we have spent time with there have been an inspiration to us since we have come back. The trip really highlighted the blessings and shortcomings of our own life and community in such a powerful way. I only wish that we could travel back to Jamaica more often...
I can't wait to send an email with some dates that we would love to come back to your home. The next time we will bring some friends. I can't wait to share this community and your home with some friends or family.
Hope you are well. Thanks again for creating a portal to such a lovely community and culture for us. I could have never imagined that a vacation could have such an impact on our life!

Karen, just wanted you to know how much we enjoyed our 2nd stay at One Rhythm, and our 3rd year in Duncan’s Bay!!!
Your villa is so beautiful and peaceful... a perfect vacation for us.... the relaxation we needed!!!!
Ms Annette made our time there like the pictures in a storybook. She took care of us 24 hours a day. She anticipated our needs. Her meals were so awesome that we took pictures of every one! Even when the seas were rough she managed to find fish and lobster for us to enjoy. She played and taught us Jamaican Dominoes and strategies at night... Fun!!! Even when she was off, she always went into town and procured what we would need for the day. She swept the beach every morning. She wanted to make sure her guests had a clean beach. Of course we cried when we had to leave her!
Ralston, a local fisherman, took my husband out fishing and to check his traps....what an awesome experience!!! He also caught fish, which Ms Annette cooked for us.
Andrew was also great! He was very dependable and took us from the airport and back, and also treated us to an excursion into the hills so that we could see the real Jamaica, and then to the Bend Down Market…. A must see!
We went snorkeling twice with Mashtoq, and experienced the local reggae music at Leroy’s on both Saturday nights. Ms Annette went with us to Leroy's on our last night, which was especially nice.
The people there really respect you, Karen, and are appreciative all you have done for their community.
We felt very special to have stayed in your villa..... the BEST in Duncan’s Bay!
Thank you again for allowing us to rent your beautiful, peaceful villa, the most restful place in the world......
I am sure we will return again... it is our special place in Jamaica.
My family just returned from the most awesome vacation ever! Where do I begin? From the moment we got through customs and found our driver Johnny Blaze waiting for us, our stay just got better and better. He's a really cool guy. When we arrived at One Rhythm, the perfect vacation villa, we were met by Ms Annette, who made sure we had everything we needed and that our stay was all we wanted it to be. She walked us a few steps to the beach, and we took in the beauty of the Caribbean. She also introduced us to all the vendors and crafts people who work and sell by the beach. Ms Annette is a warm, friendly, kind woman who must be the best cook in Jamaica! Stew chicken, jerk chicken, fish, patties, fritters, vegetables, fruit, and more – each dish better than the next. So good! In fact, one night when we planned to go into Montego Bay for dinner, my granddaughter said she only wanted to eat Ms Annette’s cooking. Johnny knew so much about the people, the culture, the history, the music, and the land, and he shared all that with us. One of the highlights (and there are so many) was our beautiful, winding drive up the mountain to Accompong, a village in St. Elizabeth’s Parish in the heart of Cockpit Country where enslaved Africans escaped, successfully fought the British, signed a peace treaty in 1739 that granted them autonomy and created a nation within a nation, and built a community where they and their descendants freely practiced their African traditions. These traditions continue to be practiced today. Once there, we sat under the 200+ year old Kindah tree where Cudjoe, the leader, united the runaway Africans (called Maroons) in their fight against the British and from where we could see the expanse and beauty of the country and mountains–a truly spiritual experience. Members of the community welcomed us and shared not only their proud history but also their present achievements. We met many local people, visited the school, met the principal, watched as the children prepared for a sporting event, saw the library that had just been built, and visited the museum. This is a trip that most tourists do not make, but I highly recommend it. I could go on and on because we had so many wonderful experiences while staying at One Rhythm, but it all comes down to Ms Annette and Johnny. We cannot thank them enough for helping us get a glimpse of the history, the culture, and the people of Jamaica and cannot wait to come back. Until then, One Love and Respect!
We just spent 6 fantastic days at One Rhythm. The house and location (just a short walk to a gorgeous beach) were perfect. Ms. Annette was a wonderful hostess and an amazing cook. She was able to facilitate everything we wanted to do. Johnny Blaze, the driver, was a great guy. Not only was he a top notch driver, he was an insightful tour guide with a vast knowledge of Jamaican flora and fauna, culture, and history. The location is off the beaten track, but there's a friendly bar/club a short walk down the beach. There's also a whole row of local souvenir vendors and craftspersons, including some really talented woodcarvers, located just off the beach. The town of Duncans has local markets and a post office, and the ride to Montego Bay is about half an hour. We had a tremendous experience in this beautiful villa and on the serene beach, but the best part of One Rhythm was meeting Ms. Annette & Johnny. They gave us a warm welcome and a true feel for the real Jamaica. Can't wait to return.
From beginning to end, One Rhythm and Miss Annette were wonderful, just the winter getaway we needed for two couples. Our welcoming dinner was delicious local foods, which continued meal after meal from Miss Annette's kitchen - fresh fish, lobster, banana fritters, fresh vegetables and fruit. Don't miss trips to the Duncans' grocery store and Falmouth market with Miss Annette. We rented a car at the airport to explore the island, and Miss Annette always had good suggestions on when and where to go - we were the first rafts down the Martha Brae thanks to her tip - a leisurely jungle float with parrots chattering in the trees. Nice estate tour and high tea at Good Hope Estate, only about 25 minutes from One Rhythm - we had the place to ourselves while most tourists did the zip line or 4x4 tour. We drove over the Cockpit Country to visit the Appleton Rum Factory on the south side - a crazy drive, but a true glimpse of the real Jamaica - small towns, jungle valleys, windy roads, children in smartly pressed uniforms walking to school. Skip the GPS - the same friendly rural taxi driver gave us directions when we got lost, and thirty minutes later when we looped back around on another rutted lane - "Hey mon, I thought I told you to go to Jackson Town - you must like driving in the bush, mon!" Left side driving was pretty exciting - just take it slow and watch for goats and oncoming trucks.
The beach, steps away, was mostly deserted, perfect for long walks and swims in warm shallows, then back to watch the magnificent frigate birds catch morsels as the local fishermen cleaned the morning's catch outside Leroy's, the local beach bar. Don't miss the fried chicken there, with a bottle of Red Stripe. The small neighborhood behind the beach has only a couple dozen homes, with narrow gravel lanes - we birded one morning and saw parrotlets, olive chested parakeets, and vervain hummingbirds, the world's second smallest. Miss Annette's saffron finches flock to the backyard each morning just for her (and you!). Go snorkeling with Mushtaq - reef fish & more!
Tree frogs serenaded us at night, with the warm breeze shuffling the palm branches. The friendliness and generosity of everyone we met, from shopkeepers to tour guides, and every stranger along the street or beach - we felt welcomed at every turn, guests instead of mere tourists. As Tony, a local who sold crafts outside Leroy's said with a big smile and a thumb rub to me, "Hey mon, it's about respect, mon!"
This was our 4th trip to Duncan's Bay, and our 3rd consecutive year's stay at One Rhythm. There is no other place in the world for us to have the restful, peaceful vacation that we always need. We spent our days on a beach that was steps away from the villa, and some days we were almost the only ones on the entire beach. Ms Annette is probably the main reason we keep coming back to One Rhythm. She is awesome in every way! She anticipates our needs, even remembering that we love the local fish and lobster for dinner each night. She procured lobster in advance of our arrival, just to make sure that we would have it if the seas were rough for the fishermen. She even had crab for us... a real delicacy! We went snorkeling, which Ms Annette arranged for us, and also took her out to celebrate her birthday. Johnny, the driver, was also great. He took us to the Bend Down Market... a must see! And he also took us anywhere else we wanted to go. We stayed an extra day again this year so that we could go to Leroy's Bar two times. The local band only plays there on Saturday nights, and it is so much fun! We visited the local caves this year, a first for us. Mostly we enjoyed spending time on the beach, resting, and eating Ms Annette's wonderful meals...... could not pay for that kind of food in any restaurant!! We have gotten to know many of the local people who live and work in Duncan's Bay. They remember us from year to year. Karen's villa is so beautifully decorated, and the local people really respect her, because she has done so much for their community. We feel very safe staying in her villa because of that respect that she has. We plan to return to Duncan's Bay, but only if we can stay at One Rhythm!!
