About Isabel

I'm from Germany and live in New York City. I came to the North Fork by chance but instantly fell in love with the charm and history of Greenport. It is so unique in its setting surrounded by water, its wonderful food and wines and its proximity to New York that I've been coming here ever since.

Isabel purchased this house in 2013

Why Isabel chose Greenport

When this house from 1830 came on the market (it had always been in the same family) I knew this was a one time opportunity - luckily it was really in good shape already and it was fun bringing out its abundant historic details. The house has beautiful wooden floors and all the original doors and windows. The living room walls and ceiling are the original tin, quite unique and now shine in their restored glamour.

What makes this house unique

Garden with mature trees and beautiful plants, huge eat in kitchen with open ceiling leading up to second floor, washer/dryer, historic details throughout. Walk to all Greenport has to offer. Vineyards in close proximity.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at this beautiful house for six nights at the end of June/beginning of July. It was extremely clean and has a lovely private garden with great deck and wonderful awning. There were great firm beds, wifi, TV with cable and high end outdoor chairs. Isabel was very responsive to our needs and we enjoyed the easy walk into town.

Wonderful

  • 5 out of 5
My family and I had a wonderful stay in this sweet house. There were four adults and one toddler and we all had plenty of space. We loved the location being so close to town and the library. The house had everything we needed, no complaints at all! The back deck was perfect for meals and downtime. The only thing that we would change was maybe having a 2nd bathroom - but that was only because there were 5 of us staying in the house. Perfect for a relaxing getaway weekend.

A private oasis in the heart of Greenport

  • 5 out of 5
This beautifully appointed property is comfortable, private and within close walking distance of Greenport's best restaurants as well as Mitchell Park, the marina and the Shelter Island Ferry. A grocery store and several independent farm stands are also around the corner from the house, which is situated behind the library in historic Greenport.

Isabel, our host, was warm and extremely accommodating. She was generous with information about Greenport and the surrounding area, but did not infringe on our privacy whatsoever. Upon arrival we were greeted with a welcome basket containing breakfast pastries, coffee and a map.

Although my boyfriend and I rented the house on our own, there is more than enough space to comfortably accommodate another couple.

The outdoor space is ample and lends itself to al fresco dining and lounging in the yard or under the shade of the gazebo. A combination of beautifully preserved tin walls and ceilings in the living room and an overall aesthetic that pays homage to the town's waterfront location makes for a perfect retreat.

I can't wait to stay again!

Great Location in Beautiful Greenport, LI

  • 5 out of 5
I had the good fortune of spending a long weekend here with my girlfriend for the Fourth of July, and we couldn't have been happier with our stay.

The location is pretty much perfect. Everything that Greenport has to offer is just a few minutes walk, which was super convenient for grabbing coffee and dining out during our stay. We ended up strolling about town quite a bit and renting bikes for a day-trip to Shelter Island (a must do while in Greenport) while our rental car sat idle, so wheels are hardly necessary if you're staying here.

The property itself was also quite spacious. For just the two us, there was TONS of room but since the two bedrooms are on different floors I could imagine sharing the place with another couple and not feeling too cramped. The backyard and deck were also fantastic for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at night, making it all the more relaxing to stay here. While we didn't do any serious cooking, the kitchen was fully stocked with all the tools you could want and there was a nice assortment of coffee and breakfast snacks waiting for us when we arrived.

All in all, it was a really lovely stay and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a base of operations for a Greenport getaway.

The North Fork is known as the garden of New York. There are countless vineyards as well as fruit, vegetable and flower farms all around. There are oyster farms and fresh fish markets, it truly is amazing how good the food is here. The vineyards all offer sampling and live music, it's a very enjoyable experience.

There are many beautiful beaches around Greenport, some you can have almost to yourself and the town has wonderful historic charm and is all walkable. There are many great restaurants as well as beautiful shops.

There is a ferry to Shelter Island right in Greenport as as well as the Jitney buses and Long Island Railroad to New York (I find the Jitney buses the most comfortable and they take 2.5 hours to Grand Central!). There is also a ferry in Orient Point which takes you to Connecticut so you are in a perfect spot to explore the near and far.
