Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Asheville - Knob View Retreat

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Come to Knob View Retreat and enjoy a relaxing vacation in this beautiful home with views out every window. The home has 3 bedroom suites, each with private ensuite bath and closet, perfect for the extended family or couples who enjoy vacationing together. Two of the suites have their own private covered porch to enjoy the refreshing mountain air and views and those glorious sunsets.

The house is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains at 2900 feet elevation within a small mountain community containing only 7 houses on 70 acres.

Privacy abounds and so does the wildlife (please don't shoot the turkeys that wander through).

Enjoy a relaxing stay on the porch or drive just 12 miles to downtown Asheville and enjoy shopping and restaurants in the 'Paris of the South'. The town of Black Mountain is just 9 miles in the other direction. Spend a day at the Biltmore Estate (13 miles) or go hiking on any of the miles of trails just minutes away. Want to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway? An entrance is just 10 minutes away.

Our house has beds to accommodate 6 adults or combination of adults and children totaling 6 people. With advance notice we can arrange for a crib or pack and play. No more than 6 people.

The last mile of road to the house is a gravel road which climbs 400 feet in elevation. A 4 wheel or all wheel drive vehicle is not necessary but would be helpful. Front wheel drive vehicles with a low gear will get you there. Electric and hybrid vehicles with a CVT transmission or other transmissions without a low gear or other low HP vehicles are not advisable.

Keywords: Asheville, mountain views, Biltmore Estate, sunsets, national forest

About Michael White

This home is owned by Steve and Henrietta Holbrooks. We are native North Carolinians and have always held a deep love and appreciation for the Blue Ridge Mountains. We've hiked many of the area trails and never missed a chance to tour the Blue Ridge Parkway. We've had great times camping there with our children and other families, sharing adventures and making memories. Now, as 'empty nesters', we've taken up kayaking, traveling, and gaining an appreciation of the culture & history of the NC Mountains. We stayed in Knob View for the first time in August 2013 and fell in love with the home immediately. The long range views along with its serenity and tranquility were so unique.

Michael White purchased this house in 2014

Why Michael White chose Asheville

Asheville has always been one of our favorite destinations. The area offers something for everyone. There's a vibrant arts culture with artisans and performers that bring the downtown to life after dark. It has beautiful architecture, fabulous shops, restaurants, and a booming craft beer industry. For those who prefer smaller towns, Black Mountain and Weaverville are popular destinations nearby. There's the Biltmore House, Gardens, and Winery which are a must see. Those who enjoy watersports will find a canoe/kayak outfitter just 20 minutes away on the French Broad River. And of course, the natural beauty that surrounds you explains why The Blue Ridge Parkway has been the most visited 'park' in the US every year since 1949.

What makes this house unique

Knob View Retreat offers the perfect retreat following a day exploring the Asheville area. It's only 15 minutes from downtown but seems 'worlds away'. We enjoy the privacy and quiet, you can hear the birds chirping, the squirrels rustling through the leaves, and the wind blow. At dusk the sunsets over the mountain range are to die for. At night the crickets will sing you to sleep. And of course there are mountain views everywhere you look! Ahhhhh

Just Right

  • 5 out of 5
My husband and I wanted a secluded, quiet, beautiful place to spend a week and that's exactly what we found here. We have rented many times with vrbo and this is one of the nicest, most comfortable homes we've had the pleasure of renting. Amenities are far too many to mention individually - but the Keurig was very much appreciated! Conveniences are just minutes away yet you feel as though there's no one for miles. We hope to visit again and would recommend this home to anyone who is looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. We relaxed more than we ever have. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Friends Retreat

  • 5 out of 5
The house is absolutely gorgeous!!! It accommodates 3 couples very well. We saw the reviews about the road and it is steep!! One of our cars was an All-Wheel-Drive and had no issues, I had an Infiniti JX35 and used the SNOW feature & low gear. I stopped once and had to back up - my bad! But this house is so awesome, I will have a 4WD or AWD next time so there I no issues. The views are breath taking!! We will be back to this place!!! Thanks for allowing us to enjoy your home.

We enjoyed our stay tremendously in the house. Everything was just so perfect in the house and it seemed very new and fresh. We loved the decks and the windows opening to your gorgeous views. What a delight each sunrise and sunset were to us. The house was a nice size and everyone was happy with the size and comfort of everything. I would recommend this house to others wanting to explore the Asheville area.

Great Weekend Getaway!

  • 5 out of 5
We all met at this cabin to get together as a family as we live in different states and this was a great meeting place with us all having about the same drive. We, 3 siblings and spouses, thought the cabin and views were wonderful! The kitchen was amazing and well stocked with kitchen necessities to make cooking a breeze and an added treat was Kurig coffee!!! The bathrooms were gorgeous and bedrooms were large and had a closet that was bigger than my children's nursery. The porches offer spectacular views and the cabin is located within a short drive to everything you could possibly want to do in Asheville. We enjoyed ourselves and got to enjoy grownup time and would recommend this cabin to everyone. It had many ammenities. It was a real treat for us and we enjoyed our stay immensely!

Mountain Trip was Fun even for the Steep Journey Up to It

  • 5 out of 5
My group had a great time catching up in this mountain house. The view and quality of the house was very nice. I would definitely look at renting again since it was a good price for what you're getting once you're able to reach the house and the owners were pretty responsive and honest.

Recommendations for future guests: First, there was literally not a single thing wrong with the house at all. I felt like this is worth noting. The road is definitely about 3 miles of gravel road up a mountain. If you stay on the gravel, you shouldn't have a problem. I drove a 2 door Honda Accord up it twice with front wheel drive only, but I have some experience driving up gravel hills. There is space in the driveway for about 4 cars if you squeeze them in btw. Some of my friends tried to go up some dirt, non-gravel roads somewhere on that mountain when they were lost trying to find the house. DO NOT DO THAT. Not sure where they were on the mountain, but it was definitely a road not meant to be driven on (almost got a 4 wheel drive SUV stuck). Luckily they gave up and assumed it wasn't the correct way and backed up (the path forks about 2-3 times before you get up to the house, but my GPS was pretty accurate up to the final fork like .8 miles away). Not a large complaint once you get there and settled in, but I could see people having trouble with it. We went during a beautiful 70 degree day, so no big deal for us and would deal with it again. It probably would've been pretty stressful if it was raining or something and trying to navigate it, though.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay and found the house to be a good value. I would like to correct some items in your review. First there is not 3 miles of gravel road, it is 1 mile. The last "fork" (actually a turn onto the road with a street sign) is not .8 mile, it is 800 feet. Finally, I send very specific directions so guests do not have to rely on GPS as GPS can lead you astray.
