Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Trencín - Trencin, Slovakia Cottage
2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6
Our cottage is tucked into the forest in a small community with about 20 other cottages. It's a three-story 'A' frame with a balcony, bathroom with tub/shower, kitchen, two living rooms, two fireplaces and two bedrooms. Hiking, skiing nearby, relaxing place to hang out.
The ground floor is all newly refinished with lots of wood, tile and rustic interior. It has a kitchen, bathroom and living area with a wood-burning fireplace and is decorated with antiques from the region. There are two large wooden doors that cover a smaller door and large window. You can close the outer doors for extra warmth and privacy as needed.
The second floor has a small office area, a living room with a fireplace, WC with toilet and a balcony. There is also a door that leads out to the back of the cottage (it's built into a hill).
Ladder-style staircases connect all three floors. The third floor has a landing with a rack for hanging up clothes and two private bedrooms with locking doors. The larger bedroom has three single beds lining the walls and a chest of drawers (great for kids).
The smaller bedroom has a double bed and night stands (great for a couple). It also has a ceiling fan.
When you step outside, you're right in the forest. You can walk across the street and hike for miles in any direction. There is a spring about 100 meters from the cottage which has clean, cold water that tastes great. We fill several bottles every day and use it as drinking water.
If you've had enough relaxation in the forest, Trencin is just 5km away and has a lot to see and do including a medieval castle, downtown shopping, bars, restaurants, cafes, museums. There is also a lot to do in surrounding cities and villages. There is a fish farm that sells live fish. During summer months the grill is open and fresh fish, sides, beer and other items can be purchased and eaten at picnic tables next to the fish ponds.

About Clark & Lora Gray
We are Clark and Lora. We love to travel and have visited over 30 countries. Our three kids have been to about a dozen and have got the travel bug too. We also love to renovate homes, so buying a cottage in Slovakia was a great way for us to enjoy two of our passions. We believe that it's important to understand other cultures and meet people from all over the world. We try to instill this in our kids as well.
Clark & Lora Gray purchased this cottage in 2007
Why Clark & Lora Gray chose Trencín
I (Clark) discovered Trencin, Slovakia in 1990 just after the Eastern Bloc opened up. I was fresh out of college and arrived as the first American and taught English to doctors at the local hospital. When I met Lora and we got married, we soon visited Slovakia together. She also fell in love with the country and we decided to buy our cottage in 2007. We bring our three kids to Slovakia most summers and use the cottage as a home base for travel to other parts of Europe.
What makes this cottage unique
Nature, castles, the medieval square of Trencin, lots to do, easy access to other parts of Europe.
