Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in West Amsterdam
Silodam apartment offers you the unique opportunity of staying in Amsterdam’s historic ‘Grain Silo’ ? right on the harbour.
The ‘Grain Silo’ was commissioned in 1895 to boost trade in Amsterdam and was one of the first large industrial grain silos in the country. At the time of construction it was also meant as an emergency stock of grain in case Amsterdam would be under siege, and therefore it was given the look and style of a medieval castle, in line with other defense constructions around the city. Silodam is part of the defence system of the former Defence Line of Amsterdam. The ‘Grain Silo’ has been nominated for the World Heritage list of Unesco. In 1996 it was declared a national monument.
The ‘Grain Silo’ has now been fully converted, and Silodam Apartment is a modern apartment with spectacular views over the harbour, but within a historic setting.
The whole area around the ‘Grain Silo’ is an architectural wonder, where modern architecture sits side by side with historic buildings from two centuries ago.
You’ll find us centrally located; just 15 minutes walk from the central station and the center of Amsterdam.
So come and experience the history of Amsterdam harbour at Silodam Apartment.
