RUSTIC CABIN, APPALACHIAN ELEGANCE, RURAL BUT CLOSE

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Asheville

Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Appalachia at its best. A mountain cabin re-created within the basement (first floor, ground level) of my home for your pleasure. Private entrance(s), covered deck/patio, open deck, great view, very private setting.

The location has an East-West orientation, with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Great place to sit, relax, and enjoy your favorite beverage.

The cabin is fully self contained. It has its own kitchen, bath with shower (no tub), and a small living/dining area. One bedroom with a king size bed.

Centrally located between I-40 and I-26, on Busbee Mountain, the property borders the Biltmore Estate and blends in with the Blue Ridge Parkway at an elevation of 3,346 feet.

Well behaved pets are more than welcome!

I would like to thank Thomas Hardesty of Illinois for the interior pictures of the cabin. Tom is a repeat guest and enjoys photography.

I am retired. I enjoy my two cats, Olly and Geo.

I retired from the Community College System and enjoy meeting people, thus the rental.

I enjoy traveling and finding neat places. I hope I have created one here.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2007

I had a half -finished basement when I purchased the home, which I separated from the house upstairs. I envisioned a downstairs cabin so others could enjoy the beautiful mountains as I do.

Living on a rural mountain and bordering the Biltmore Estate Property, there is an abundance of wildlife - turkey, deer, pheasants, bear, raccoons, generally all sorts of wildlife. I have pictures of bear in the yard and in close-by trees.

At an elevation of 3,346 feet, the cabin overlooks a huge valley. The valley is often filled with fog, creating a beautiful sunrise at eye-level.

Great weekend getaway

  • 5 out of 5
We had a wedding to attend on Sat. in Asheville so we made a weekend out of it with our dogs and had a great time relaxing at the cabin & hiking at Chimney Rock. The views from the room are beautiful and it was a perfect space for my husband and I.

Perfect Anniversary!

  • 5 out of 5
The view was amazing and the cabin was perfect for my husband and I. It's located on the side of a mountain which was the most exciting thing in the world to me considering this was my first time ever even seeing one! You can bet that we will be coming back again and next time bringing our little girl. Truely one of the best vacations I've had in a long time.

Wonderful View

  • 4 out of 5
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The view off the deck was fabulous.
Bed was comfortable. If you are average size, you may just fit in the shower.

What a beautiful place in the clouds! like being on top of the world. Peaceful and quiet, close to nature, a real NC mountain experience. George thought of everything, from coffee to towels. Wonderful covered porch. Close to all activities. A friendly place.

Best Vacation Cabin Ever!

  • 5 out of 5
My experience at George's cabin extremely pleasant! I'd even throw in 5 additional stars for the host! George is thoughtful and was genuinely concerned about our comfort after a previous guest mentioned dissatisfaction with the condition of the cabin. This cabin is pleasantly clean and comfortable while offering sufficient space for personal items. George also provides necessary items for cooking and entertainment.

I was also very pleased that I was able to bring my dog and let him stay in the cabin. He loved sitting on the deck enjoying the view!

The location of the cabin is very ideal and central. We explored several favorite tourist spots, and did not have to spend a lot of time in the car.

I hope to return to the cabin and plan on adding it to my regular vacation spots.

Best guest service! Best views! Super clean space!

Great spot except for bedbugs

  • 3 out of 5
Beautiful location and friendly host. Loved our stay here except for the unfortunate presence of bedbugs. My husband & I were bit the first night but didn't think anything of it. After more bites appeared the second night, we tore apart the bed until we found the colony. George was helpful; offered bug spray and a vacuum and helped find the bugs. However, I was less than impressed when he denied that they were bedbugs and then tried to claim that we had brought them in. I almost asked for a refund and left at that point, but we decided we wouldn't let it ruin our vacation.

George said he was taking the bedding to be cleaned after we left, but judging from the hundreds of itchy welts left on my husband, the problem is going to take more than that to fix.

Other than that, it was a nice place. I'd just recommend confirming with George that the bedbugs are totally gone before you book.

Owner's Response: I have never responded to a review but must respond to this one. The young couple had hiked on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I did not imply that they brought bed bugs but did wonder if they had picked up something on the trails. Going on-line and researching bed bugs and there existence, I found they tend to be found in crevices and folds of material. None were found in the folds/crevices of the pillow top mattress. Pillow top on both top and bottom, nor any in the carpets.
The couple told me that only he had been bitten and she had no bites either night, their visit was for five nights with the complaint only following the second night. The bites appeared on his arms as red spots even such as poison ivy and I still wonder if he had contacted something outside the cabin.
As to finding a colony, we found a cricket and that is all I saw. They saw other bugs.
I have completely cleaned the bed and bedroom. I did purchase a bed bug / lice spray and have saturated the premise. I have had guest following these and made them aware of the situation. They had no bites!
I do apologize to this couple for their having a less than completely satisfying vacation. They did not exhibit this dissatisfaction while they were here.
Owner addendum, May 30, 2014
I had an exterminator on site Friday, May 30. Upon a really deep inspection, we did find a few bed bugs. It was a minor infestation but embarrassing none the less. The inspector told me he could sell me bags to encase the mattress and the box springs. If the fumigation of the cabin missed an egg or two to later hatch, the bags would encase the bugs. Cautioning on the side of happy guest, I chose to discard the two year old mattress and box springs and replace them with new. I also plan to encase the new bedding within the bags referenced so that no contamination of the new bedding could occur in the future.
Of course I do not know when the bugs were brought in but it happens. No one person may have them but carry them along in luggage that may have been infected at either motels, hotels or airlines. I am amazed to learn how easily they can be contracted.
I made a request for information from a future guest who works with the CDC in Atlanta GA. He shared the sites on the internet which offered a great deal of information. Unfortunately, I cannot share those sites on this site. Please contact me if you cannot find information.
