Out of the way place

  • 3 of 5

This obviously was a lovely fancy home when first built. Now it is spacious, comfortable, reasonably clean and run-down. The owner has made some inroads in upkeep with the addition of new outside chairs, new mugs, silverware and glasses in the kitchen and new bedspreads. Winnie the property manager was very friendly, helpful and warm. Everything (appliances, A/C/heat, etc) worked except for the water purification system which hadn't been maintained. Winnie told us when we arrived to use bottled water. If you want amenities, this in't it. The nearest grocery store is in Blythe, 20 miles away. The townlet used to boast two restaurants which are currently vacant and boarded up. There is a gas station. The river looks lovely but old signs posted at the bridge about 100 yards away tell you not to enter the water as it is polluted. The docks have deteriorated since the pictures were taken and are inaccessible as the stairs are gone. The house is situated in a trailer park filled with older, smaller ones that are mostly somewhat decrepit. The office for the trailor park is separated from the house by an interior door. We could hear every work spoken in the office so, we presume, they could hear us too.

The town of Palo Verde has a few well-maintained homes but, for the main part, consists of deteriorating properties, trailers and junk - a ghost town in the making?

40th Birthday / Fishing the Mighty Colorado - Vacation with Family

  • 5 of 5

I almost don't want to give the great review I am about to. This is because I want to be greedy & keep this awesome little secret all to myself.

Now, first things first. If you are only into 5 Star Hiltons or some sterile resort environment meant for aliens - what are you doing looking to vacation in Palo Verde? But - on the other hand, if you love the Colorado River, lazy kick back days, camping type vacations, good fishing, but you want to be able to get a good rest, cook some meals, & have a shower - then you will absolutely love this place! It isn't fancy - but it feels like home. The moment "Winnie," the site manager, walked me into the place - I knew I would be so comfortable. There are all the things you need for a group of adults (4 to 6, but 8 possible) to have a great time. We stayed for about 7 days, & we didn't want to leave on the last day - we got so lucky - the next party wasn't coming for a few days, so we paid to stay an extra day! Why go home when you feel like you are already home? Just as comfortable, none of the distractions!

Not sure children allowed, but if so it would be great for a family. It is clean, the air conditioning works great, the carpet is plush, & the television has many channels, & there is Wi-Fi (which is great because your cell phone reception will be intermittent at best - but that was the best part if you ask me!)

I'm afraid that this place is going to be booked up the next time I attempt to book another week! So fun celebrating my 40th b-day with my uncles, siblings, & even Mom! All had a great time, my mom caught a big 'ole cat fish, & we barbequed every night. Drinking beers, playing games, & watching those beautiful stars - it is so dark at night that the Milky Way is like, um, VISIBLE!

Suggestion for the cooks, town is far & there ain't much there - so bring your favorite cooking tool, because while there are plenty of dishes & pots & pans, for cooks there is always that one thing that you wished you had - for me it was my large frying pan, for you? a blender? but you can ask Winnie before you arrive to determine what that is. She was so nice, and helpful. My whole family wants to see this place do well so that we can continue to return many more times - in fact, planning a winter vacation there already!

Go swim the River at "Hippie Hole" (South 78, turn left at sign "Oxbow River Access" follow around, then go left for a bit, then right to cross bridge, & go right at beach area - free access!

We had an awesome Vacation!!!!

  • 5 of 5

I booked my stay over the phone with Winnie she made is nice and easy for us!! We arrived on 8/15/2014. We were greeted by the Manager of the park Winnie. Such a sweet lady! She gave us a tour of the home and then told us if we needed anything to just give her a call. The home was perfect for me and my family. It was nice and clean with all the amenities we needed!! I even brought my doggies with me because they are part of our family and go everywhere with us! I LOVED the fact that we could bring our dogs!! The fishing dock was a great plus to the house! We caught some nice looking bass! We also had plenty of parking for our trucks and jet skis. We launched our skis down the road at Hippy Whole. We played all day on the river and came back to the house at night. It was great to have a place to shower, cook, watch TV and relax after a long day on the river! Me and my family will defiantly be going back to this place! I would recommend this house to anyone! We had a great time!!

Exactly what was advertised!

  • 5 of 5

When speaking to Rob about renting this house I was kind of on the wall of what to expect when we arrived there. The inside of the house was clean and nice! The air conditioning was working, it was all of us had expected for our weekend of fishing. I will be renting this place again! The only problem we had but it wasn't a really big one... we thought that the reeds around the dock and patio should be trimmed if not cut down. Again no big deal it was an awesome weekend!!! Thanks Rob!
