Sweet spot
Way out there get away, the barn is rustic and small, the dockside is beautiful, though not so much for swimming, at least at low tide

Relaxing Time in Maine
The location is lovely and the accommodations were nice. We had a wonderful time. The backyard was so beautiful and peaceful, the ocean was wonderful and we did lots of local things (fair, art show) and we all had a great time. The listing was not entirely accurate, however. The listing said there was an oven, but there was only burners, a toaster over, and a back yard grill. Also, it was listed as a 3 bedroom, but there were only two bedrooms with a third area with beds that you had to walk through to get to a bedroom, so essentially no privacy.

The Barn is just the right balance of rustic and convenience.
The Barn is clean, cosy and private. There is plenty of separate rooms and areas inside and out to make it comfortable for 4 adults. The area by the water is great, we went down every day for a beer or two before dinner. The area behind the house and the BBQ are private - but does get buggy in the evening. Can’t wait to go back next year!

The views were not what we had expected. You need to be outside the cottage to see the water; or make an effort to peer out through the windows. The proximity to the water from the Barn is not great.. and you do have to cross the street+walk down a path. If you want to hear the waves or smell the ocean from home, this is not the place. Backyard is woodsy +pretty. Obvious owner loves property; but next time, I will ask more questions..I was really disappointed.

About the host

I live in Texas on a small ranch west of Austin in what is known as the Texas Hill Country. As a retired teacher I spend most of my time outside working in my gardens: flower; vegetable; and moon and small vineyard where I grow mostly native American grapes and, in good years, make mostly good wine. I feel very fortunate to have the best of both worlds, Maine and Texas!

Why they chose this property

My first visit to Maine was in 1978. My mother and step-father had bought an old house (1779) in the town of Cushing. Along with the house came a workshop, carriage house, and a two-story barn. I fell in love!

What makes this property unique

The Barn not only offers a cozy, warm, and comfortable home to its guests, it also gives them the unique opportunity to feel a part of the history of coastal Maine. The Barn has been restored for comfort and convenience but there remain remnants of its 200 year history from the weathered wooden beams and wide plank boards to the antique farm tools decorating it's walls. A hand-made wooden ladder in the corner of the kitchen-sitting area allowed the farmer access to the second floor through a trap door. A second floor hay window used in the past to cast out hay for the farm animals is used today to cast the eyes upon the water before closing in sleep and to summon the sea breezes as you dream.
