WARNING - BIG HOLIDAY PROBLEM AHEAD!
Many guests have written about their problem with Wanggulay Too Treetops. We feel obliged to share this with you. It begins when they stand on the balcony suspended in the treetops and enjoy the complimentary bottle of champagne. They often then relax on the lounges or daybed, overlooking the river below that cut through the rainforest in the spectacular Barron Gorge. Guests can spend hours in our fabulous antique bath privately built on a private platform by the river. If feeling slightly adventurous, they will take a very short walk into the national park and enjoy pristine swimming in crystal clear fresh mountain water under a tropical waterfall. After a hot outdoor Balinese style shower, by the river, or some time luxuriating in the 24 jet hot spa, its time to open the kitchen and the bar. And what an entertaining area this is, the bar on the balcony opens into the kitchen and friends and family spend time in the twilight dining and looking up into the amazing canopy of the rainforest lit subtly by our LED light system. It's time for Wanggulay rainforest dreaming in the brand new luxury pillow top beds. Rest and Repeat, That is what they do; they stay! What we mean is they don't want to go anywhere! They often cancel their day tripping plans to spend more time in the surrounds of this magical place. Once guest best described the problem years ago “It leaves a spell on you it's Wanggulay Dreaming! ', she said. And now it has become an epidemic! The kids are not immune either. We have a kid's guide, written by kids, that records all the great things to see and do. We give you a walking guide to the secretly located spectacular waterfalls just 10 minutes from the front door where you can enjoy You have been warned, read on and find out more, unless you’d prefer to spend your days travelling around in a car on your holiday.

My name is Belinda. After building Wanggulay in 2003 we decided to completely upgrade our nearby home to Wanggulay standard and and now we are about to launch WanggulayToo Treetops. I have lived overseas for many years and Wanggulay is our spectacular home in Australia. I am a Nutritionist and lifestyle consultant and love food. I recently wrote the Cairns and Wanggulay Guide which contains a comprehensive food section detailing my favourite markets, restaurants and cafes. I have two daughters and they wrote the kids section in the Wanggulay guide too. The eBook copy of the guide is yours when you make an enquiry. I would love to show you our home, perhaps you have already seen its neighbour Wanggulay on Australian Lifestyle television or Queensland Weekender.
Blin purchased this house in 2009
We have lived all over Australia (19 locations) and overseas ( 4 countries) but the lure of the tropics and the rainforest outside Cairns was too great. We feel that nothing can compete with the natural beauty and experiences on offer in this unique pocket on our planet. We loved to travel and we have collected a lot of wonderful pieces that now have found their home in Wanggulay Too. Come meet Aladin our lamp from Asia, our marriage dolls, all four of them from Bali. We have interesting Art work form famous Australian artists and very pieces collected form markets around the world. All compliment the tropical environment of Cairns.
Have you ever been to a place where you feel that you are literally walking in the tropical treetops? Thanks to a a rare engineering feat matching frameless glass with fine, slim edge stainless steel balcony you can do just that at Wanggulay Too. Not more than 10 minutes walk or 2 minutes by car is one of the most beautiful creek and waterfalls on our planet. Known as Stoney creek it is a locals hidden favourite and little wonder that when we first swam under the waterfall for us it was paradise found, Come and experience that, you will be amazed and all this so very close to Cairns city and Palm Cove..
If your looking for a peaceful, tranquil place to stay close to shopping in the middle of the rainforest, right on the door step to the Barrier Reef, then this is it. Don't forget the champagne! Loved, loved, loved it!!
The place is absolutely wonderful and luxurious, with beautiful surroundings. Best way to appreciate the spectacular view of the rainforest is to lounge on the balcony, while sipping champagne! It is very spacious, easily fitting all 10 of us comfortably. Location is great - isolated, but an easy drive to the city or any other facilities. Belinda and Brett provided the best customer service and were willing to assist us with anything when required. Would definitely stay again. Highly recommended!
We liked the idea of staying in the hinterland and after a long hunt to find somewhere comfortable for 4 adults and 2 young kids to spend a relaxing week in Cairns to celebrate Opa’s (Grandads) 70th, we decided to try Wanggulay Too. We initially wanted to stay at Wanggulay, its sister property which has a pool, but it was not available at that time. We were reassured by Brett that there was no compromise in quality, and he was not wrong. The place was beautiful with a large decked area up high in the treetops, overlooking the river. It was very peaceful, and although it did not have a pool, there were plenty of other things that kept the kids busy, including the ping pong table and the outside bath which was their favourite after a long day sight-seeing with adults. The outside shower was a nice touch too. It was a relaxing property to come back to after short day trips to nearby beaches, waterfalls and Kuranda (the scenic railway is a must!). Thank you Belinda and team for the comfortable stay and making us feel very welcome, and for the bubbly and card for the birthday boy
Fabulous place, highly recommend! The house is wonderful, very luxurious, and a perfect place to relax after a day hiking in the rainforest surrounding the property. It’s really great to open things up in the evening and live on the deck. Outdoor bathing a high point for me. Also loved the location - very private but close to whatever else you might need in the area. Very sad to leave at the end of our time there...
Wanggulay Too was the perfect place to explore Northern Queensland. Escaping the normal tourist traps, the house allowed you to live in the rainforest and be completely surrounded by nature. All the while only being 15-20mins from all the action.
The house was well equipped to cook at home - a must at least once so you can enjoy the beautiful deck. It was the perfect place to catch up with extended family and relax.
It's hard to describe our feelings about the incredible week and a half we spent here. The house was beautiful! Vaulted ceilings, beautifully decorated--everything about it was decadent! Traveling with 8 children had it's challenges but not here! There were beds for everyone's tastes--roll away beds on the enclosed back porch that the little boys fought over, private bedrooms for the teens, and the master suite which opens out to the deck that oversees the river in the distance.
The house is the perfect cross between indoors and out--the french doors open from the lounge to the deck which has a glass enclosure that gives you the feel of actually being in the tree tops. One entire side of the house is windows--most of which open wide to the outdoors. While cooking in the kitchen we felt as though we were barbecuing outside. It was glorious!
Then there's the play area outside they have for the kids. Not pictured on any site we looked at, we were pleasantly surprised to find a ping pong table and a tether ball stand. The kids played out there for hours! They loved that they could play outside while it was raining as it is completely covered.
We were a little sad the water wasn't hooked up to the outdoor bathtub and shower--the kids thought that would have been a riot to try out!
All in all it was a glorious place to stay!
Then there's the staff. I wish I hadn't been so stressed and could remember the lady's name who was there to greet us and who came when we were leaving. She was wonderful! We had a bit of a snafu--the keys to the rental car we were driving were misplaced and we spent over 5 hours searching for them. We were there well past the time we should have checked out and, in spite of me being in a panic, she never made me feel anything but welcome. She was also incredibly helpful, offering suggestions and ideas that I hadn't thought of.
Oh and I almost forgot about the location! It was perfect. 15 minutes from the Esplanade, right next door to Tjapukai and the Scenic Railway, right off the freeway, but far enough away that you would never know it. We felt close to everything yet perfectly secluded once we shut the front door.
I can't recommend Amongst the Tree Tops enough. I hope one day to have the opportunity to return to Cairns and you can bet when I do I'll be staying here again.
