My wife and I first came to Nantucket in 1977 with our three daughters and came back every year. We rented a home like the one we own for a week two years in a row. After we got out of boating and because we liked Nantucket so much we decided to buy a home in Nashaquisset. We wanted to see what is was like in the off season so we stayed weeks at a time to be sure this was what were we wanted to retire. We enjoy riding our bikes on the 40 miles of bike paths, walking Sanford Farm, Tuppancy Links, and the Autobon. We like the open space that has been provided by the various conservation groups. About 50 % of the Island is or will be in the open space program. We enjoy looking for sea shells on the north shore, the antique auctions, the indoor ice skating rink, and the various seasonal town wide activities such as the Daffodil Festival, Wine Festival, Film Festival, July fourth celebration, Cranberry Festival and Christmas Stroll. The churches are very active. We enjoy the numerous plays that are put on throughout the year. When we were in boating I did a lot of offshore fishing for Giant Tuna, Yellow Fin Tuna, and Mako Shark. Now I surf from the shore to catch Stripped Bass and Bluefish. We have really enjoyed this home and Nantucket. I recently built new home for retirement here on Nantucket so now we live here year round. I designed the home to accommodate my six grand children, my three daughters and their husbands when they visit.
Edwin F. Scheibel and Cynthia H. Scheibel purchased this house in 1999
We looked at a number of homes on Nantucket and we keep coming back to Nashaquisset. We like the size of the yard, the landscaping, especially the Hydrangeas. This is one of the biggest homes in Nashaquisset. When my kids along with their husbands and children came to visit we were to able to comfortably accommodate them. There is always a cool breeze in the summer. and we enjoy having a barbecue on the patio. We love the pool, and the tennis courts. They are considered the best Har-Tru courts on the island. The center of town is only a one mile walk away.
We liked the size of the home and the accommodations that it offered. The location is great. It is only a 2 mile bike ride to Surfside Beach on the South shore. The kids loved the community pool. We enjoyed taking walks through the shell paths of the Nashaquisset Community and have met many wonderful neighbors. We attend weekly cocktail parties in June and September with the other home owners along with any of the guests that they may bring. The architectural design, the placement of the homes on their respective sites along with the wonderful landscaping has created a unique beautiful village.
One of the best whaling museums in the country. Sport fishing for Bluefish, Strippers, Yellow Fin Tuna, Maco Shark, and Marlin. The oldest house along with the old jail, and the tower in the Congregational Church to see fantastic views of Nantucket and the harbor. Life saving station on Polpis Road, Brant Point Light, the second oldest lighthouse in the country. The village of Sconset at the far eastern end of the island. The cranberry bogs off Milestone Road. The old windmill showing how they used to grind corn.
