a hawaii dream. This home is our dream home and we know you will absolutely love it.
The Owner purchased this villa in 2011
sea breezes, crashing waves, whale-bird-frog screeches. all this and super comfort, super quality. we felt that our every wish was anticipated. we look forward to returning to this enchanting place.
We stayed here for fourteen nights over the 2014/2015 new year period, and it was hard to go home. Kai Malolo is very well appointed that it's hard to understand how such a property can be available in this price range. The house can sleep six in three double bedrooms (I'm not completely sure what size the beds are, don't quote me on this), and has two bathrooms - one with two sinks - Europeans would be use to a bathroom with one sink, but I think in the US two vanity units counts as a full bathroom. Both also contain a shower, in addition there is a home office with printer and wired internet connection and a walk-in closet in another of the rooms. Laundry is kept in a separate room with a writing bureau; and the rest of the house is an open-plan format sharing the lounge and dining area with a kitchen separated through an island. A lanai runs along the rear length of the property allowing for viewing of the whales in the bay area but does not offer direct access to the garden/walk to the coastline.
Additionally the garage for the property contains bikes, snorkelling gear and fishing equipment covering most of the activities you may like to do. The pool house has a variety of floats and inflatables for younger or less confident swimmers. The pool area is also completely fenced off so safe if you have little ones wandering around.
Our stay was very relaxing. From the first day we were stunned at how quiet the area is - there is literally no noise. The little-used access road is so far from the house that traffic can barely be heard and the neighbours, those closeby, are very respectful with regards to noise (the exception being their dog Rags who does like to make sure the area is well guarded, but I was thankful to know we were at no risk of anything sneaking up on us! He is a very friendly and loveable great beast though). As for facilities inside, almost everything was catered for - there is a great entertainment system, plentiful towels and sheets, a fully stocked kitchen. We even had a running challenge to work out what we *didn't* have and the only thing we found we needed was a pizza wheel ;)
The house was spotless, none of the usual insect problems you can have in Hawaii. We really struggled to come up with any downsides to this place: the pool was chilly, the access road is bumpy - neither of which are the owner's fault. Will definitely stay again!
Note: property has stairs to the door and is not really suited to disabled access.
WOW! Absolute paradise. LOVE IT!
The House is very spacious and very clean. You enter through a combination gate that feels private and secure. Master bedroom has a queen bed that is very comfortable. Spacious room with a great ocean view. Master bath is very big and we loved the shower with the ocean view. Lots of hot water and good water pressure. Two other queen bedrooms in the back of the house that share a bathroom. Smaller than the master but nice.
Kitchen was well stocked with everything you need including paper towels, spices, oil, water. Another spot that has a great ocean view.
Nice big lanai, with a great view of the ocean and very peaceful to read and relax.
Fantastic pool with ocean view. Just missing a spa, then it would be perfect! Water temperature is perfect and we used it everyday. It gets the sun in the mornings and that was a perfect time for a dip. BBQ is in the pool house in case it rains (which it did everyday briefly), worked perfectly.
Two hard tail MTB (rockhoopers). Extra tubes, spoons, helmets and gloves available. Great for exploring! We road down to the tide pools, about 12 miles round trip. Great bikes and much appreciated.
Gravel road coming in from both directions. When we arrived there were so many potholes we thought we may have to turn around. On day #4 they actually filled in those potholes and put down new gravel. Much better! The drive out through the mango grooves is beautiful. Continue on to Kalapana, spectacular! (better than the drive to Hana).
The neighbors (who we hardly saw) and rags were awesome. Love that dog. So much so we googgled a golden doodle to check them out to see where we could get one back home. Very friendly and very nice having a dog around in the middle of nowhere. At night it got to be very dark and a little scary on the first night with strange noises. It sounded like someone or something was crashing through the bushes out in front. We soon figured out that it was some kind of fruit that was falling onto the Palm Franz making all that noise. Enabled us to sleep a lot easier at night.
You get used to the frog and birds at night and throughout the day. They actually are quite comforting at night. You can also hear the waves crashing against the rocks but only barely as the frogs drown out the sound.
We found Kai Malolo to be very very relaxing and just what we needed. This is a fantastic house rental, one of the best we have ever rented in fact. We will definitely be coming back.
Our family of four stayed here after having stayed at a different home elsewhere on the island. This home was by far superior to our other rental! The house is immaculate but comfortable. Every detail was considered for a comfortable stay. The rental manager was just outstanding to work with and was very responsive. The house is secluded and boy does it get dark at night! We loved it. The coquis were loud at sundown but by morning they were quiet and all we heard was the water on the rocks and the trades. We were a little concerned about it having no a/c but we never felt hot our whole stay. We wanted a place not far from volcano but still on the water. This was perfect. Pahoa was not our cup of tea but served us well for groceries and a meal out. We were prepared to pack food in and just stay most of the time which was just fine. We likened it to staying at a cabin in the woods. We had two teens that were quite happy with the wifi and satellite. The experience of driving down that rainforest road was very memorable! We will pick this place again if ever back in the Hilo area.
Our family of 4 really enjoyed our stay at Kai Malolo. The house is beautiful and very well maintained and the pool was perfect for cooling off. As stated by previous reviewers, the kitchen and pantry is well stocked as well as towels, sheets etc. We had no trouble with mosquitos as all the doors/windows have screens and although the first night we couldn't believe how loud the frogs were, we soon got used to it and the kids actually went looking for them each night with their flashlights.
If you like dogs there is a wonderful dog named "Rags" next door that loves to visit if you leave the gate open!!
We had a very enjoyable stay at Kai Malolo. The house is equipped with everything a guest could wish for away from from home, including great mountain bikes and gear. We experienced a freak wind storm that did damage to the home; the manager and the owners were impressive In their response to rectify the situation. We highly recommend Kai Malolo for an unforgettable stay in tropical Hawaii.
This home is a delightful place to stay. The photos are very true to life and the descriptions are accurate. This house provides everything needed for a wonderful vacation. The view and the sounds can't be beat. You'll get used to the Koki frogs at night.
We arrived at night so the drive on the red road was a bit ominous but daylight revealed it's true beauty. The location is a bit remote but we love being away from the crowds. We can see why this is the owners dream home. Terry, the manager, was very helpful. We would love to return here some day and recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful home with incredible views.
