This property is the trump card of Moloaa Bay. This is the only home on the bay used as a backdrop for Gilligans Island filming. This property is unique in the World. I have been offered Millions of Dollars for this property, and I tell them this property is PRICELESS.
Location, Along with being the most private location on the Bay. No other home has a view like this home. The view of the reef along is magical. Because of the unique location you never have to worry about a rogue wave taking you out while your sleeping. It happened before all the homes on the bay were swept away except mine. Why? because my home sits on a bluff out of the way of danger
We had an incredible time staying at this cute home in Moloaa Bay. Set up on a hill, the house has the best view of the bay by far, and the beach is just a 1-minute walk down the hill. We could see whales, dolphins, and flying fish every day off the coast and stunning sunrises and sunsets (not direct views of either, but still amazing). At night we spent hours sitting out in the yard staring up at the Milky Way. You're just a short drive from Kapaa or Hanalei, our favorite towns on the island.
Moloaa Beach is great for floating, swimming, or sunbathing. There are also a few hiking trails. There were rarely many people there, so it felt like we had it all to ourselves most of the time.
One thing to point out is that, like nearly any house I've stayed at in tropical areas, there are lots of bugs around! We were surprised by a few big ones during our stay.
The house itself is very private, the last house past at least 2 No Trespassing gates. We had trouble finding it (it doesn't have an address!), so make sure to get good directions from the owner before you get there. The cell service (AT&T at least) is spotty in the house, but there's a spot towards the hill where you can make calls. But it's also a great excuse to disconnect and relax. The house was well equipped with a huge refrigerator, full stove, BBQ grill, all the dishes and pots/pans you'll need, excellent large washer/dryer, towels (beach and bath), binoculars, local guide books, lots of outdoor chairs, and plenty of storage space for your luggage. The Internet wasn't working when we arrived, but the owner arranged for us to replace the box in Lihue, and then it worked fine.
Overall we had an amazing time staying here and would recommend it to others!
The owner was generous enough to allow us to use the location as a retreat for our staff. We were able to house all 9 of our staff members comfortably without any difficulties. As many other people have said, the view from the property is remarkable. There aren't many other places that provide a view of Moloa'a Bay so this location is a blessing to enjoy. It's location at the end of the road allows for a very tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. It is also great to be able to access the beach by walking a minute or two down the driveway. Because of the limited public beach access in the bay, the beach remains fairly private. As others have said, don't expect the house to be similar to a hotel, but it is comfortable and creates an atmosphere similar to if you were living on the island longterm. Overall, I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful atmosphere and great views of more isolated parts of the island of Kauai.
The property's view of the bay is outstanding. It sits higher up on a hill, on the beach but not directly on beach. The chairs and tables outside allow you to enjoy the scenery and relax. I spent more time on the bluff than inside the house. Absolutely beautiful and would recommend it to a friend. Aloha
This property is a quaint beach cottage with four bedrooms and two baths. Just a short walk down to the bay for swimming, or relax outside with the best views of Moloaa Bay. We were able to enjoy a weekend get away close to home but still "far" away.
The trade winds kept us comfortable on the bluff overlooking the bay and relaxation was easy to achieve. Some new updates were done recently to add to the comfort of the home. The cottage was clean and surroundings well maintained. Come enjoy the quiet Moloaa Bay, you will be refreshed!
We've been to all side of the island and stayed at all levels of accommodations but I would give this one our top choice due to all it has to offer (great beaches, best views, size and comfort of accommodations, privacy and reasonable rates. We have been here multiple times and for good reason. The owner is a delight to work with and is very understanding of your needs or requirements. we must give them our highest recommendation if your looking for a very positive memory of Kauai!!
Even though a resident of Kauai, and Moloaa Bay is right out my back door, a group of us chose to take a weekend and getaway from the normal. I heard of this island style plantation cottage from a friend who saw the cottage. There are accommodations for 8 to sleep comfortably, space to cook for the same and plenty of room to eat inside or outside overlooking Moloaa Bay. We were out and about during the day, but gathered at night for dinner and and evenings under the stars. The heavens were beautiful! No moon, and very little residential lighting. I counted the shooting stars. The light breeze kept the mosquitoes away.
The house is built on an elevated area and has one of the best panoramic views of the bay, and probably one of top views around the island of Kauai. Couple that with the private, secluded location, and you have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend getaway: PERFECT for what we were looking for.
Moloaa Bay is not that well visited, as access and parking is limited, but this cottage provides your own access and parking: better than most visitors will ever have. Even though considered "beachfront" the drop to the beach is steep, so you will need to take a two minute walk down the sloped drive to where you have an easy access to the beach - no need to drive. In the water there is an area that is the calmest for easy swimming and suitable for kids, and a more wave crashing, rip current area for the stronger swimmer. Be cautious, though, it is not a lifeguarded beach. At either area the beach is awesome.
There is a hiking trail on the opposite side of the bay which is easy at first but you will end up climbing lava boulders. You can turn around anytime you like. There are great views from all around the bay.
Moloaa Bay is considered North Shore but from there you have easy access to all areas of the east and north and it is approximately 30 minutes (traffic dependent) from the airport.
The photos and descriptions are accurate and the property was clean and well maintained. We had no need to call the manager as everything worked properly. It's not the Ritz so don't expect high end appliances and furnishings; it's a cottage. The setting and privacy more than makes up for more lavish environments. The entry can be a little bit bothersome, as you have to go through 3 gates, but the end of the road is worth it.
ENJOY your stay in paradise!
This is the property the pilot episodes was shot for ' Gilligan Island' We were told they put large leaves in front of the house to hide it when filming. They also left behind a anchor, could this of been from the the 3 hour tour that crashed on mooloa bay.
In any event, you can only imagine!
