ABOUT VILLA MARAMA
The Villa Marama was built as one of the first home in the very coveted Bel Air Residence by its present owners to escape the faster paced style of living of Papeete, French Polynesia’s capital.
The origin of the name Villa Marama -
The Villa Marama takes its name from ancestral and romantic origins. The channel between Tahiti and Moorea was once called the “Marama Sea”, meaning the “Moonlight Sea” (or literally “Sea of the Moon”). This channel was for long a large part of our family’s history and life as long before Moorea became the coveted touristic spot it is today, it remained mostly inhabited by locals who were detached from the main island of Tahiti. Ferries and freight developed over the years to bring in commuters and business to this piece of paradise and allow everyone to enjoy its beauty. Our family is proud to be some of the pioneers that enabled this transformation while trying to preserve its serenity. Until a few years ago, we have served the population of Moorea by providing them sea transportation to and from the island of Tahiti.
It is in honor of the name our ancestors gave to the channel the Villa offers views onto and its connection to the owner family’s history that they named this beautiful home the Villa Marama.
