Have a great stay in this spacious 2 bedroom, 2 bath condominium, located in downtown Baton Rouge on the Mississippi River. Features secured gated access, flat screen TVs, in unit washer/dryer, free WiFi, community pool, large clubhouse with a workout area...the list goes on and on. This condo is very close to the State Capital, local bars, casinos, the River Center, beautiful parks, lakes AND only 3.8 miles from TIGER STADIUM!!!
I rented this condo for the weekend, 4/12-4/13/2014. My son, brother-in-law, & I had just arrived in Baton Rouge, after a 14hr drive from Chicago. I contacted the owner, Kai, on the evening of 4/11/2014. She was very gracious and accommodating, for such short notice, as we had booked a hotel & were very unhappy. The hotel stated they would charge a $600 fee (in addition to the charge for 2 rooms) for a gathering of more than 6 people (adults & children). I informed Kai that 6 people would be staying at the condo & that approx. 6 more (including 3 children) would come by for a birthday celebration. My nephew & his family were celebrating his daughter's 2nd birthday. Kai informed me that her condo would accommodate us. She set up a meeting for the next day & provided me the gate key card & condo access info. All went smoothly & we were impressed as we entered the condo. It was very spacious, clean, & furnished with style. Everything we needed was right there: pots, pans, dishes, utensils, towels (the bath towels in the master were so plush), even detergent for the washing machine. Everyone slept like babies, the mattresses were just perfect. The balcony was so peaceful in the early morning. My son & I bird watched & saw Cardinals, Bluejays and several other species. I look forward to staying here on my next visit to Baton Rouge. There are 2 suggestions I'd like to make: 1. A couple of patio chairs & table would be nice on the balcony-we used our own folding lawn chairs that we brought with us. 2. A light in the Master Bath shower-the shower curtain is nice & thick but it seems to block out the light & I couldn't see very well when taking my showers. Maybe one of those battery operated stick up lights, or, something similar might work. Lastly, my brother-in-law says, after staying in this condo, he'll never stay in a hotel again. Kai, thanks again, for your (and your Mom's) southern hospitality!
The front bedroom has a strong dog urine smell. It is a carpeted bedroom that has no windows and that cannot be ventilated. The dog smell was intolerable and suffocating and we simply could not put our children to sleep in that room.
The carpet in the apartment has several spots from spills and the walls are damaged and scoffed. The furniture is very basic (e.g. there is no kitchen table) and not what you would expect from a vacation rental. Also, the apartment was not properly cleaned and we noticed bathmats that were not vacuumed.
Construction workers were working on the exterior wall right outside our living room window. The noise was too loud to carry on a normal conversation inside the living room or the master bedroom, especially with the windows open.
We contacted the property owner to discuss the situation. She seemed surprised at the state of the property and promised us (two times) that we would get a full refund of the fees paid. We then contacted HomeAway to inform them of the situation. We left the apartment and checked into a hotel.
To date, the property owner has not refunded us the rental fees paid. The owner has not responded to my various e-mails and text messages to come to an agreeable solution in this matter. She also did not respond to the formal complaint that I filed with HomeAway. HomeAway has indicated that they will not mediate in this matter.
This property is misrepresented on HomeAway’s website. I’m afraid that the owner will simply keep the rental fee paid for an apartment that we could not use during our spring break. I would certainly not recommend this property, or other properties by this owner, to anyone. I would also not recommend using HomeAway because they do not take any responsibility for misrepresented properties. They state that they monitor the payment process and deny any other responsibility.
