Comfortable, warm and inviting-- all in an excellent location. This completely remodeled farmhouse is located on almost 8 wooded acres just a few short minutes from downtown Mankato.
In the warm months, cross the street and find yourself on miles of walking, running and biking trails connected to the Red Jacket Trail system. Head down the road 1/2 a mile and spend the weekend mountain biking at Mt Kato or pack your kayak or canoe and make your way to the Blue Earth River just a mile down the road. Grab the family and visit any number of the many recreational lakes in the area, several within 20 minutes of the house. Or stay home, grill and eat out on the patio and catch fireflies in the yard.
In the winter months, watch the downhill skiers and snowboarders ski the front side of Mt Kato from your living room window while comfortably nestled in front of a warm pellet stove, or hit the slopes yourself! Snowshoe or cross country ski along the trails… or stay home and enjoy the peace and comfort that this home provides. Soak in the antique clawfoot tub situated in front of the picture window looking out over woods. Watch the hawks and deer in the backyard. Whip up a delicious dinner in the custom kitchen, utilizing the ample soapstone countertops and butcher block island. Or start a fire in the easy-to-use wood pellet fireplace and spend the evening reading, watching a movie, or enjoying time with those you love.
This peaceful home would make a great weekend or week-long retreat for a couple, a small family or a single professional who has to be in the area for work. It is a well-priced and much more comfortable and spacious alternative to hotels in the area.
As of April 1, 2014, we will now have on-site caretakers living in a separate apartment, with a separate entrance, in the lower level/basement of the house (pictures of this space not posted on this website). The caretakers will mostly stay out of our your way, but if you need anything, this couple is there for you! They will set up a bonfire on the property, recommend a restaurant or get you in touch with a local outfitter for a river adventure.

Jennifer purchased this chateau / country house in 2007
This house offered such a wonderful space in really one of the most beautiful sections of Mankato, the river valley. It was pretty rough when I bought it in 07, and many said it was way too big of a project for one person alone.
There is just something about this property. You are close to everything, yet secluded just enough to feel peaceful when in the back property or relaxing in the home. The farmhouse is very well built and has great light because of its position on a small hill. It's one of those places where you just feel at home, easily...perfect for relaxing and rejuvenating.
Everything was fantastic! So many nice touches in the home but our favorite of all was the live decorated Christmas tree which made our family holiday celebration that much more special. From the pre-arrival directions to flexibility with check-in to the chickens greeting us in the yard to the nice note from onsite caretakers to the well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and inviting fireplace... start to finish this was a perfect getaway in the cozy farmhouse!
Very cute house. We enjoyed our stay very much. The fresh eggs were a nice treat. It was fun to walk to the hen house with chickens (and duck) in tow to see if there were more eggs. Loved the close access to the walking path which took us to town. The kitchen had just about everything we needed except a coffee grinder.
Our family of four enjoyed a week in this beautifully-updated house and tranquil setting. Our kids loved the horse, chickens, and duck on the property, as well as the front porch swing and the rolling green hills around the house. Farm-fresh eggs were a delicious bonus. Thank you for the hospitality!
We were so lucky to be able to stay in this lovely home. The peaceful nature of this sweet country retreat was felt immediately upon arrival.
From the gorgeously appointed living quarters, to the front porch made for quite contemplation to the ADORABLE chickens and duck, we loved every bit of it. I've been telling everyone about the fresh eggs every morning - Thank you so much!
I rented this house for a post-New Year's getaway for me, my wife, our infant daughter and our dog. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others looking for a family-friendly stay. Details below:
Conveniently located within 90 minutes of the Twin Cities, just outside of Mankato and within 30 minutes of St. Peter and New Ulm. The farmhouse feels secluded and quiet, despite having a county road passing right in front of it.
The farmhouse is spacious, clean, and well-decorated. The living room and dining room worked great for us; we even unrolled the yoga mats Jennifer provided and did yoga in front of the pellet stove one morning -- a great way to start the day.
In the master bedroom, we loved the mattress -- perfect combo of firmness and comfort. The only downside to the room is that the bed is up along one wall, so the person on the inside has to crawl over the other person if they need to get out. Oh, and the footboard's a bit short for me as a 6'4" guy :)
The second bedroom would work great for kids. We set up our daughter's pack and play in there and took advantage of the fact that there is already a changing table in the room -- very convenient. There's even a cute little balcony overlooking the room, although we couldn't figure out how a kid would get up there (maybe with a ladder that is stored away?).
My wife enjoyed a couple of baths in the soaking tub in the bathroom. Jennifer provided some essential oils; it would have been even better if she'd offered some bath salts.
The kitchen is the highlight of the house, very nicely updated and well laid-out for cooking. Jennifer provided cookware, basics (spices, etc.), and a great coffee setup (espresso maker, drip coffee maker, and Starbucks ground coffee). The only thing we couldn't find was a larger skillet -- the biggest one we found was 9 inches. Get some larger pans and the setup will be perfect!
The pellet stove in the living room keeps the first floor of the house nice and toasty, and the heating system in general is first rate. The only things to note are that the fan is pretty loud, and that there's a trick to turning off the stove. We couldn't figure it out at first, but I called Jennifer and she let me know how to do it.
Hope this review is helpful for those considering renting the farmhouse. We would definitely consider it for future getaways!
