Overview

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday condo in Budapest - Chain Bridge Apartment

1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)

Our lovely Chain Bridge Apartment is available for vacation and longer-term rentals. The one-bedroom apartment is located in central Buda, just steps from the Castle, the Danube, the Chain Bridge, and within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just a short walk over the bridge will bring you to central Pest. It's one of the city’s oldest and most atmospheric neighborhoods, with narrow staircases leading up to the Castle and numerous restaurants and cafés. The building is well-served by public transportation, but you may find that you'd just prefer to walk everywhere! There are playgrounds in the neighborhood to entertain the children, and plenty of pubs to occupy the adults.

Located in a classic early-20th-century building, the apartment overlooks one of the building’s two courtyards, making it secluded and quiet. With original hardwood floors, doors, windows and elegant high ceilings, staying here will make you feel like a local.

The apartment has recently been renovated (though the old features that make it so charming have been kept intact), and is newly furnished. The sunny bedroom sleeps two on a queen bed, and an additional two can sleep on the foldout couch in the spacious living room. A portable crib can be provided on request.

Take advantage of Budapest's wonderful food markets by picking up fresh local ingredients and bringing them back to your own kitchen to try your hand at preparing the local cuisine. The eat-in kitchen is well-equipped with a full-sized oven, stove, and refrigerator; a microwave, coffee maker, and toaster; and plenty of dishes and utensils. If there are any special cooking utensils you might need, we can supply them from our own collection.

The apartment also includes free wireless Internet; a landline which you can use to make FREE PHONE CALLS TO THE USA AND CANADA; use of a Hungarian mobile phone (you pay for the minutes....you can top-it up at any ATM machine); a washing machine; a flat-screen television with cable and DVD player; a stereo with an ipod connector; a small DVD/CD/Budapest guidebook selection; a full bathroom with claw-foot tub and hairdryer; plenty of linens and towels; and an iron and board. There is no cleaning fee.

The apartment is situated on the second floor, and there is no elevator.

We (Carolyn and Gábor) are an American/Hungarian couple who live in Budapest with our two daughters and newborn son. We love to travel, explore Budapest, eat good food, and drink nice wine. We run a culinary tour company, so luckily we get to spend lots of time researching and tasting the foods and wines of Hungary (as well as the surrounding countries)! We live in the same neighborhood as our rental apartment, so we are easily accessible to show you the ropes in Budapest and give you the lowdown on all of the best places to seek out in the neighborhood, as well as the country. Carolyn is a food/travel writer so can fill you in on what is happening in Budapest (and beyond) while you'll be in town.

Why Carolyn Banfalvi chose Budapest

The apartment is meant to be a place for visiting family to stay when they come to visit. We chose this apartment because we couldn't resist its fantastic location, the gorgeous (and quiet!) early 20th century building, and the cozy apartment itself, which has high ceilings, original parquet floors, and elegantly tall windows and doors.

The apartment is old, charming, spacious and well-equipped. The bathtub is a treat after nothing but showers. Everything was clean and the bed was comfortable. Carolyn's procedure and advice documents are very helpful and her procedure for handling the key is terrific. The location, in a neighbourhood where you bumped into local residents rather than more tourists, was ideal for us. Turn right at the front door and the river is less than 2 minutes walk, with the Chain Bridge another 2 minutes, turn left and the stairs at the end of the street take you up to the castle. It was a 5 minute walk to the #19 Tram to take us to Kelenfold train station. With grocery and convenience stores within a ten minute walk and a well equipped kitchen, we didn't need to use any restaurants, although Carolyn recommends many excellent ones nearby. I have two caveats which were not a problem for us, but I think might be some others: it is a walk-up, as Carolyn says, on the European 2nd floor, that means 50 stairs to climb with luggage or groceries; the toilet is in a separate room from the bathroom (which I think is the most sensible place to put it) and this room is very small and could pose a concern for anyone oversized (tall or wide). Having said that, I don't think that these two items are significant enough for most people to outweigh the positive aspects of this apartment.

Wonderful apartment, great location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this apartment and stayed there for six weeks while we completed the adoption of our two daughters. The location was excellent for

seeing the sights, close enough to grocery store, metro, playgrounds, shopping

center and convenience stores (ABCs). Lots of good restaurants too. Carolyn has a list and recommendations of restaurants as well as lots of guide books in the apartment. She lent us toys, puzzles and children's books which was much

appreciated. Any issues that arose they took care of immediately and were a

pleasure to deal with. The apartment was neat and clean and well stocked with dishes, pots and pans etc. for cooking. We would definitely recommend this place.

The perfect place

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved the Chain Bridge apartment...situated in a beautiful old building with charm, within walking distance to everything we wanted to do and see. The apartment is nicely renovated, clean, spacious, well-equipped and quiet. The owner, Carolyn (author of two Budapest food & wine guidebooks - the books were also in the apartment and were a great resource) met us on arrival and was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again!

A Great Week!

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I stayed here for a week in September 2010. The apartment was charming from the moment we walked in~high ceilings and doors, claw foot tub, and a modern kitchen. Lots of space. The location was EXCELLENT. Walking distance to everything, just over the bridge to Pest, and the grocery store was steps from train station for added convenience. There are guide books and an info binder. Overall it was like staying at a friend's place.

Also, the owners were great at communicating via e-mail to the USA before I left. I would highly recommend this apartment!!

This apartment is a gem!

  • 5 of 5

Staying in the apartment was fantastic-- Carolyn and Gabor are both incredible. They are accommodating and kind, and a huge wealth of helpful information. The apartment was perfect-- the location was easy to get to and around the sites, the size was perfect (for even 2 couples!), and had all of the amenities we could have hoped for. Even a washing machine! Perhaps the best part though was the generosity and kindness of the hosts. We opted to take a wine tour with Gabor, which proved to be the utter highlight of our entire European trip. He is very knowledgeable, down to earth, funny, and kind.

Overall, the apartment was great. It comes with a cell phone, which was invaluable, and they even covered some of the costs of using it, which was very nice. The full kitchen was awesome, and the apartment itself was in a beautiful building. It was well worth it!

Nice apartment in great location

  • 4 of 5

The hosts were awesome and met us at the apartment. There are maps and great tour books (even kid guides for Budapest) in the apartment. The host even set up a taxi to pick us up when we had to leave.

Location was the BEST!!!!!

The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars all around was the fact that the apartment faced a courtyard and opening windows at night didn't give us any relief from the heat.
