About Mark and Renae Neilson

We have six children, who are mostly grown with eight grandchildren. We have a cleaning business here in Bigfork that we have run since 1999 after farming in Idaho for 23 years.

Mark and Renae Neilson purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Mark and Renae Neilson chose Bigfork

Every season of the year provides its own unique charm and beauty here.

What makes this cabin unique

This home is just a short walk from Swan River, and borders state land. In addition, just a short stroll through the woods brings you to the beautiful Loon Lake. Our favorite family activity has been taking float tubes down Swan River which access is just adjacent to our driveway.

Excellent Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

This log home is one of the most beautiful homes our family have stayed in. The entire house was tastefully decorated and extremely clean, the kitchen was large and spacious, the beds were very comfortable and warm. The yard was huge, clean and the air was so fresh. We enjoyed the peace, quiet and rest away from the big city life. The deers and wild turkeys that came into the yard was a welcome site. The lettuce, herbs and peppers from kitchen garden was great to have at hand. Our experience was awesome and we will definitely hope to come back again.

Renae and Mark, thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us, we can see your home was built with love and care.

Better even than the photos

  • 5 of 5

The house is immaculate and so well equipped. Every convenience is provided. The bountiful garden and hens eggs kept us in fresh food for a week. And the kitchen was the center of our stay. The owners are nearby and will answer any questions. Including how to pump up bike tires! And where is the best fishing. Our group was a mix of couples, singles, and a grandparent. There was plenty of room for all. Besides the luxurious, comfy and cozy bedrooms were spacious bathrooms for all. The house is down the street from a fishing and tubing river and through the woods to a swimming lake. Nearby is the Jewel Basin Range for hiking and mountain biking. The Road House, a local watering hole had kareoke night while we were there. We visited the rodeo in Kalispell and of course, hiked in Glacier Park. All were easily accessible by car. The neighbor dog even stopped by to give us dog lovers a lick. We have stayed in many VRBO homes and this was the best.

Outstanding Vacation Home - Highly Recommended

  • 5 of 5

Our family, which consisted of twelve people from the age of 6 months up to age 63, met at this beautiful vacation home for a two week reunion in early August, 2011. We have rented vacation homes every year for many years and even had one of our homes listed on vrbo for 6 years so we are very familiar with vacation rental homes. We can honestly say this is the nicest vacation home we have ever stayed in! The beautiful home is a large, modern, custom designed and built log cabin style home with a floor plan that is very comfortable for family groupings. The house overlooks a meadow with majestic mountains all around it and is a short (5 min) walk to the Swan River. The house was immaculately clean, well maintained and very well equipped for cooking, grilling, eating outdoors and just enjoying the family time together. The large back porch with a great porch swing overlooking the meadow is where family members got together and just caught up on everyone's news. Bigfork and the surrounding area provides so many fun things to see and do that we were not able to get everything that we wanted to do packed into our busy schedule. Flathead Lake alone is an amazing sight to see. Glacier Park is less than an hour drive and we did two day trips to enjoy the beauty of the Park. The owners paid attention to every detail to make sure our stay at their beautiful home was enjoyable. We wanted a Montana vacation at a scenic location in a beautiful and comfortable home and this was everything we had hoped for! We would very much like to come back here again. We highly recommend this vrbo home.

Fantastic Montana Getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful time we had here in this lovely home in its ideal setting! We came as an extended family of three generations: 2 parents, our 3 children and their spouses, and these children's children. In total, there were 8 adults and 4 children aged 2 to 10 years. Never once did we feel as though we were a family of porcupines living too close to each other's quills.

The beautiful log house was roomy and spotless, full of fresh air and dancing sunlight. The beds were large and comfortable. The water was hot and plentiful. The well-equipped kitchen with its long cabinets and spacious island was ideal for permitting several cooks to prepare meals at once. The yard was huge and the children could play with minimal supervision. Two of the boys especially enjoyed looking for and gathering eggs from the chickens. And the strawberries, lettuce, and fresh herbs from the garden put the finishing touches on several of the meals we ate together.

There were many special things about our time here, but the two highlights for me, anyway, was how very dark it got at night and how very quiet it was all the time. Light and noise pollution were non-existent, making our week here a restful oasis away from our usual world.

Thank you, Renae and Mark, for sharing your home with us. Your friendliness and hospitality provided us with a most memorable family experience. We definitely hope to come back sometime!
