About Carl-Philippe Mangones

We've been married for 7 years and have a wonderful baby girl of 5 years of age. We love the water and enjoy our weekends on our boat!

Carl-Philippe Mangones purchased this villa in 2013

Why Carl-Philippe Mangones chose Puerto Plata

This was love at first site! We first bought our boat last year and we were looking for the perfect place to enjoy the boating life, for us, Punta Rucia was the most amazing place to own a boat in the northern coast.

A few months later, we found this great opportunity with our teacher from Law-School that was looking for a potential buyer to sale his 40 year old weekend retreat that he had remodeled back than. We jumped on the occasion and remodeled it by today's standards, this was certainly one of the best decisions we have taken in our 7 years of marriage.

This is truly a unique paradise far from the big crowd!

What makes this villa unique

Beach House right on the bay, with protection from the Atlantic big waves. This is the perfect spot for the family and small kids to enjoy the tranquility of calm waters. Punta Rucia is still a quiet and secret touristic site away from the big crowd. This is a small town where everyone knows each other by name and live in harmony. This is truly the perfect spot to disconnect and have true relaxing vacations.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Perfect private beach house

  • 5 of 5

As all of the reviews state, this is a perfect vacation to get away from everything. Natalie was so kind and went above and beyond answering my questions. Our family of 5 (children 13, 8 and 6) had so much fun without outside the distractions of a traditional "hotel" vacation. We don't speak Spanish, and even though very few in the area speak English, we didn't have any problems! It is a bit of a drive from STI (2.5 hours) but worth it. Natalie arranged the driver, who was very nice and helpful with money exchange and grocery shopping.

It is very remote, so be sure to stock up at the grocery store at the airport. There is a truck that drives through town in the afternoon that we purchased fresh fruits and vegetables from. My children would hear the fruit truck microphone (like the ice cream truck in the states, but no clue what they were saying) and would run from the beach to see what we could buy. We did eat a few meals from the restaurant next door, menu in Spanish only so be sure to get a translation app on your phone). It wasn't fancy, which was perfect. We also ate at the little pizza shop in town, super yummy. There is also a small grocery front store with beer, rum soda and very basic supplies. We walked through town everyday and never felt unsafe at anytime.

The beach couldn't be more beautiful, perfect for little ones swimming. For 7 days my kids played TOGETHER on the beach, swings and hammocks, that may have been my favorite part. We never turned on the tv except one rain day for a movie (we brought an Apple TV incase the kids got bored, which never happened) I would recommend bug spray in the evening, that was the only time they ever bothered us. Make sure to visit the island with kleipe. My husband and son loved his private snorkeling tour. Kleipe, Alfonso and Mylady were all super kind and helpful and available, but never bothersome. If you want to reconnect with your family and get away from an over scheduled life, come here!

Beautiful home on the beach! Can't wait to return!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 7 had a wonderful time enjoying the most beautiful blue water we've ever seen! The house is lovely, comfortable and well tended to by Alfonso and the housekeeper who take care of everything while we lounged in a hammock. The beach is steps away and you wake each morning to crystal clear water. The 2 days we spent on the boat with Kleiby as our driver and snorkeling expert were highlights of the trip! Not only did he load up our cooler and supplies for the day, he was a wonderful guide around the reefs near Paradise Island! Kleiby also was available to walk with us to the small "town" nearby and introduced us to a charming italian pizza restaurant where the cheese is made fresh! The kitchen in the home is very nice but we enjoyed most of our big meals at the restaurant next door. The fried whole fish, plantains, fruit and white wine made a perfect meal! The staff is so friendly and they allowed us to run a tab which we paid on the last day. This was great as we traveled with 5 teens and they could go for a banana smoothie or lunch whenever they liked (leaving the 2 moms some quiet reading time!). I would recommend this beautiful, well taken care of house to anyone who is seeking a true Dominican retreat. It's far from any cruise ship or resort tourist areas and we were charmed to wait for cows crossing the road on our 1 1/2 hour journey from the airport at Puerto Plata. The owner arranged transport in a luxury van which was very comfortable and the scenery is a lovely introduction to the beautiful island. Thank you Carl-Philippe and Natalie for sharing paradise with us!

A Dream Come True

  • 5 of 5

As hard as it is to believe, Villa Mango is even nicer than it looks in the photos. It's RIGHT on the most beautiful beach we've ever seen, and entire our stay in Punta Rucia was like a dream. If you're sick of giant resorts or cruises and want a vacation that's truly private, peaceful and unique, this is it.

Between Carl-Philippe, the groundskeeper Alfons, the housekeeper Rafaelina and the boat captain Kleiby, every little thing we wanted was taken care of. We didn't have to lift a finger other than to mix another drink! We spent most of our days lounging in the hammocks or swimming in the crystal clear water, and in the evenings we wandered either to the restaurant next door or into the quiet little town for dinner. A small market down the road had everything we ran out of during the week, as well as locally-grown fruits and vegetables. There is an enormous grill right in the yard, so we grilled fresh-caught Mahi-Mahi two nights of the week, and Rafaelina made us an amazing fish soup with the leftovers the next day. All of the staff and everyone we met in town was incredibly friendly, honest and helpful, and as a result we got a genuine taste of the local Dominican culture that you could NEVER find at a big, walled-in resort.

Having the private boat was also amazing--we went out snorkeling at a stunning coral reef one day, and went out deep-sea fishing another day, all without dealing with any other tourists! There is also a place to rent bikes, 4-wheelers, etc. just down the beach, so we rented a jet ski one day and went cruising up and down the pristine, undeveloped coast. We've never seen anything like it--miles and miles of lush mountains and beaches without a single building to spoil the view.

We truly cannot recommend this spot enough, and we're already making plans to come back. It was the most hassle-free, scenic and refreshing vacation any of us can remember, and an experience nobody's stories can rival. Thank you Carl-Phillipe and Natalie, you made our dreams a reality!

Private escape to Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Carl-Philippe and Natalie were so greatly accommodating and helpful right from the start of our vacation. The house was beautiful and right on the beach. We were struck by how clear the water was in Punta Rusia and the beauty of the white sand beach. The house has pretty much anything you need for a getaway, snorkeling gear, sand toys, boogey boards and the like. The hammocks and tree swing were great for the kids too:) We were especially impressed with the staff and how friendly and helpful everyone was - they really made us feel like part of the community (Alfonso,Alphie,Milagros,Keivi,Rafelina, and our extra security, Pierre) The experience has been so amazing the entire family joked about not ever having to leave!

Thank you again and know that if in the future we choose to come back to Punta Rusia we will certainly stay here!

Paradise has been found !!!

  • 5 of 5

Paradise has been found !!! On a scale of 1-10, we undoubtedly give Villa Mango a 15 !!! To say that our time at Villa Mango was better than we ever imagined, is an understatement…….and we were lucky enough to get married in this paradise. We have traveled extensively and Villa Mango falls into the rare category of “We Must Return”…..there are only two other locations in the world that hold this distinction (we typically visit a location once and opt for a new destination on our next trip). We were already talking about a return visit as we boarded our flight home.

Please note, Punta Rucia is a very small town that truly offers an authentic experience (it is not a resort town). In our book, this is a plus. We gladly did without the shopping malls, Starbucks, crowds, night clubs, grocery stores, etc. For this reason, have the owners pick you up at the airport (fly into Puerto Plata) and take you to the grocery store before traveling to Punta Rucia. Once you find yourself at Villa Mango, you’ll realize simple living takes all of your worries away.

The owners, Carl-Philippe & Natalie, are people of integrity, respect and kind hearted. The photos and info on Villa Mango’s profile is an accurate depiction of the accommodations/area. They were very helpful and accommodating from the moment we inquired about staying at Villa Mango.

Here’s a summary as to why Villa Mango is PARADISE !!!

- Villa Mango is literally right on the beach (it’s a very quiet and clean beach with warm, crystal clear blue waters). You get to enjoy this ocean view as you look out nearly every window in the house, as you dine in the covered eating area, as you swing in one of the two hammocks. Eat at the neighboring cafe.

- Punta Rucia has not been spoiled by tourists, so you’ll experience an authentic part of the Dominican Republic.

- Villa Mango offers the best in beach living (the house & grounds are extremely clean, hot water, AC for a charge, well equipped kitchen, BBQ, comfortable beds, etc).

- There are water activities galore and priced economically (stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, boogie boards, snorkeling, SCUBA). You can also rent bikes. For free, you can use Villa Mango’s boogie board and snorkeling gear. We rented SUP boards, kayaks and a bike from nearby Villa Rosa .

- The staff and owners will take exceptional care of you. However, they are very respectful of your privacy.

- The people of Punta Rucia are extremely welcoming and kind.

My daughter and I had a really awesome time at Mango Villa!! We stayed for the 1st week of April and the owner of the property, Carl-Philippe was so friendly and attentive. Before we ever arrived, Carl answered all of our many questions by email, always responding within a day at most. He was incredibly thorough! We foolishly decided to fly into the Santa Domingo airport and drive across the country because it was cheaper. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT DO THAT! Driving in the DR, especially Santa Domingo, is insane. We do not recommend driving at all. Carl so graciously offered airport pick-up service had we flown into one of the closer airports, but we decline which was a big mistake. Although we made this mistake, Carl was quick to offer his assistance and send a driver to let us follow him back. This was a life saver! When we arrived at the house, several staff people were awaiting, including Alfonso who lives in a house on the property and tends to any issues that arise. The staff were amazing, I cannot emphasize this enough! There was also a staff person named Kleiby who was a wonderful person, driver, tour guide, and boat driver. Getting to know the staff was a highlight of the trip. The house itself is exactly as described. It is a peaceful, beautiful, private home directly on the beach. We would spend our mornings and evenings sitting out on the upstairs deck enjoying the serene view from above. The house itself was well maintained thanks to Rafaelina, the housekeeper. The biggest highlight of our trip was the fact that we had access to Carl's boat and Kleiby our own boat captain to take us to Cayo Paradisio. There really are no words to describe the beauty of this small island 20 mins from our backyard. Be sure to bring bread (or anything) to feed the fish as hundreds of beautiful fish will eat out of your hands. Kleiby even took me on a snorkeling tour all the way around the reef which surrounds the island.

If you are looking for shopping, and tourism nearby, this isn't your spot. The nearest grocery store and tourist like town is about an hour and a half away. Plan to grocery shop on the way from the airport as restaurants in town are very limited. There is a big BBQ, which makes for a delicious home cooked dinner.

If you are looking to detach from reality in a remote exotic location, this is the place for you.

Thank you to Carl and Natalie, and to his awesome staff, Kleiby, Rafaelina, Alfonso, and Josue for an great vacation!
