I am retired, with experience in the Bed and Breakfast area and in historic restoration. I love having guests at the cabin and always go out of my way to make everyone welcome
Joyce Latcham purchased this cabin in 2010
This area is beautiful, cool in summer with mild winters and much less snow than at higher elevations. It is a true alpine environment without the disadvantages of long or severe winters. It is close to many wineries and to skiing but is not in a developed community and so is very private and peaceful. There are no visible neighbors.
The cabin is spacious, with great sunsets and views but completely accessible. The trip to the cabin is spectacular in summer and winter. It is furnished with antiques, art, colorful textiles and down comforters. We want to make our guest completely comfortable. There is a completely equipped gourmet kitchen.
I was looking for a place to gather with family for a relaxing weekend, get away from the city and just unwind. This is the perfect place for a quiet retreat! The cabin is fully equipped with absolutely everything and our family was so comfortable. We have 2 young children under five, a small dog, and even brought my parents along and everyone had the space we needed. The decor is delightful, the linens are elegant, and price is affordable. The views from the back deck with evening sunsets over the fall colored hillsides were incredible! We kept the fire roaring over our two-day which was such a treat. The cabin is close to hiking, wineries, farms and many other daytime adventures. Joyce was such a pleasure and answered every single question we had to make our stay perfect. Our family can't wait to come back this spring!
It was a super cozy, warm, clean and quiet place to stay! My family loved it!!!
This was our second trip to this cabin, and have loved it each time. The porch at night is great - you can see lots of stars and the owner even puts out a bed so that you can lay outside underneath them. Owner is very friendly. Can't wait to go back.
Can't recommend this place enough - it was really beautiful all around. Rustic (you can't put a house in the woods and not expect some wild company), but very clean and full of amenities. A nice little library, stocked kitchen, clean linens and a bed on the balcony to take in the fantastic views and silence of the mountain! Lots of fun things to do with kids nearby (we visited an alpaca ranch on the way to Placerville one day), and also a great spot for a romantic getaway. We didn't have the opportunity to visit any of the dozens of local wineries this time, but we'll be back to do it for sure. :)
We were a group of 5, 4 adults and a 3 year old who were attending a Family Gathering in Pine Grove. So we were really not here that much except to sleep, but we were able to sleep WELL!!! The bed was extremely comfortable with beautiful linens. The house is very welcoming, nice; it appeared that all the bases were covered. The big thrill for all of us was sitting out on the deck in the morning with a cup of coffee and watching the hummingbirds feed, and was happy to find the jug of hummingbird nectar to reload after they emptied it the first day! If the weather had been just a little warmer at night I’m sure someone would have jumped at the chance to sleep out on the deck in the bed that was provided. Thank you for sharing your place oh and yes the bottle of wine that was wonderful too! : D
It’s about a 35 minute drive to Pioneer and 25 minutes to Plymouth, beautiful scenery which ever way you are going.
Joyce was very easy to work with, got back to me right away to answer my questions either by email or phone. On the way there we dropped into Amador Vintage Market in Plymouth for a glass of wine and the very best homemade chips ever, cute place do stop by and check them out. I miss judged the time and distance so made it…but late for our dinner in Pine Grove.
I was here for two weeks on family business in the area. I was especially pleased that my two small dogs were welcome. The cabin is beautiful, and has a great view. The kitchen is well stocked. It is very quiet, which is good for working. The satellite wi-fi is a bit slow, but reliable. There are many, many wineries nearby--if one gets otherwise bored. I too am a VRBO owner, and found the price to be less than I would expect for this accommodation. Joyce was very responsive to my questions, and was genuinely concerned that all was going will. She left a bottle of wine to chill, and even put the mattress on the deck for me, assuming no more rain; but of course it did rain. I would definitely recommend this inviting cabin to anyone wanting to get away from the rat race.
Cave and mine tours 30 minutes away. Cosumnes Gorge climbing 20 minutes away. Swimming holes close by. 1 1/2 hours from South Lake Tahoe, lake, casino and recreation. Wine tasting at over 60 wineries within an hour drive. The closest winery is ten minutes away. Scenic hiking in the El Dorado National Forest 5 miles away. Fishing in half a dozen high country lakes less than 30 minutes away. Hunting in the fall for deer, bear and ducks in the national forest. Beautiful snowfalls in winter but snow is generally on the ground only a few days; a winter wonderland without the winter! Splendid sunsets on the deck almost every evening. Bring your kids and dogs and plan your favorite activities with the owner's assistance.
