Owner Description: I fell in love with Kauai during my first vacation here in Dec 1999/Y2K. I decided to stay. I built my childhood dream dome in the back county where horses are not only common, they roam free, often stopping at my house to snack.
I made a movie of the building of this dome, there is a short version streaming on you tube just do a search for monolithic dome homes and you will see me!!
I designed this house when I was 7 years old and built it with my own hands in 2008 after living in a tent on the land for a year. I also made a short movie about the building which is streaming on youtube if you search for monolithic dome homes... mine is one of the first videos that are listed. There are amazing laughing birds called Erckels Frankcolins that are just awesome.
jo purchased this studio in 2006
The moment I saw the land I knew it was for me.... it was quiet, private and it grabbed my heart like a young Donnie Osmond.... hahahaha (giving my age away!)
Jo's house was great! It is a beautiful location with a view of hills and cliffs. It seems a bit off the beaten track but is actually just a short drive from Waimea town. Jo offered us advice about the hikes and beaches we were planning to go to and was a very friendly host. We were afraid of the driveway at first but it treated our compact rental gently. We loved sitting out on the deck in the early morning and in the evenings. The room itself is spacious, nicely decorated with wall art and has a fridge, microwave, dishes and other equipment. However, the bed could be more comfortable (maybe it was too soft?) We would definitely recommend staying in the Dome with Jo if you come to Waimea!
We had an excellent time!!!! Jo is a great owner and extremely helpful. The property is accurately described; no surprises!!! If you are desiring a country setting, away from the resorts, staying in an area where the "folks" live, this is it for you. There are two grocery stores in Wiamea, about 2 miles away and various farmers markets to enjoy wonderful local ripe fruit and vegies. You will definitely need a car as public transportation is minimal. All the sites on the island require a lot of moving around to see the areas. This was our first trip to the islands, and Jo provided us with and wonderful introduction to Island life! Many thanks Jo...
...and OBTW...you are quite a gal!!!!
That's about it for now...next time over we'll have that wine!!!!!
It is a very quiet location that is located up a side street near the Waimea canyon. The space is small and the kitchen is really too small to cook anything. The front deck is comfortable and the bedroom is aesthetically pleasing; however, the bed is very uncomfortable. It is memory foam and has seen better days. The grounds are well manicured and Jo is great.
