YOU WILL HAVE THE BEST VIEW IN ALL OF MAINE OF THE
OCEAN AND ACADIA NATIONAL PARK!!! (For about the
price of 2 little stuffy hotel rooms in Bar Harbor!!!!!!!!!!) Will sleep
8-9 comfortably--- 12 with additional bedding. The 2000' house is designed for efficiency with No fossil fuels!!!
Central a/c and passive solar highlight the
efficiency and cleanliness of the home. Built recently, so you
are SAFE from lead paint, asbestos, and mold problems i
older homes. Our home is kept to a high hypo-allergenic standard for our guests! We charge no more for this! We have a forced air heat pump
air circulation system with filtration--- that's why there are no
stagnant air areas or damp spots in the home! Plus we have
central a/c even though we are on the Windward side of the
island with cool breezes. The town of Bar Harbor can be
very hot sometimes because it faces North and is blocked
from cool ocean breezes-- so always stay at least one mile
south of the central business district on the ocean or the
'heights' as the locals call them. That's why eagles live in our trees!!!! Plus the WINDWARD SIDE of MDI is the EAST
side of MDI, SOUTH of Bar Harbor where we are the CENTER
of ''Millionaires Row' of the Gilded Age of Bar Harbor.
This is considered to be prob the most valuable parcel of two
acres on the entire Maine coast. It's rock face was painted
by the Hudson River School painters more than any landmark on In Bar Harbor or MDI.
With three full baths and four bedrooms the home will
handle 12 easily. A full kitchen attached to the Great Room will
let the chef (usually the lady of the house) know that she is not
being shut off in some remote kitchen but is enjoying actively
the spectacular views of the Great Room with her guests and
family-- and interacting with them as well.
Look down on the QM2 and huge ocean-going yachts
entering and leaving Bar Harbor. See eagles sitting in the
trees and their nests right near the house. See whales and
seals in front of the house!
Since we are on the 'windward side' of MDI our breezes
come from the ocean-- free of pollen and insects!!!
You will not want to leave this paradise, so take tons of
photos for great memories AND COME BACK SOON!!!!!
Note: you are receiving a special rate per week
which is a special reduction off the normal rate of $8300 per
week due to special contribution of the Owners in their efforts
help the environment and its wildlife.
NEW LIsting!!!! It was noted in a magazine that this site
is one of the few places on MDI where you can look out to sea
and see almost nothing 'man made.' Due to the protection
of Acadia National Park, the Ocean and the Porcupine Islands
appear almost exactly as they did when the Hudson River
School painters painted them in the mid 1800s. WE DO
NOT SHOW BOOKING DATES ON ANY PUBLIC SITE. AUG AND SEPT MOSTLY BOOKED.
SEND INQUIRY FOR YOUR DATES OF INTEREST. WE GET MANY VIPS IN THE FALL
AND DO NOT SHOW BOOKING DATES.
Bring that 'special someone' for a week and you will
have memories for a lifetime!!!!
Complimentary Champagne and Cheese/Humus on
Go first class for about the price of two
little stuffy hotel rooms in Bar Harbor! See Bar
Harbor the way the Gilded Age families viewed it
in the 1890s.
NOTE OUR SENIOR AND MILITARY/VET
DISCOUNTS!!! MENTION DIS416 CODE ON
YOUR RES REQUEST.
We do not show
our booking dates openly for security of the guests.
Special VIP security measures are offered at special rate--
call for details. Additional Note: There has been some
interest in purchasing the property. The house can be
added onto or a huge mansion can be built like the Gilded Age
'cottages' of 1890s. There is no limit on size. Since it is on
the edge of Bar Harbor sewer and water are town available.
Only one of few cottages that is free of any 'bed and breakfast'
restriction for future development. The deed allows for a
two lane road directly to the lot. Two in depth appraisals have
been done on the property. Built on solid granite we do not
have the problem of the Atlantic beaches 'of sand' washing away
along the lower U.S. coast and the rising ocean level. We
are well above the ocean level!!
The owners are descendants of James Russell Lowell
and Maria White Lowell, the romantic poets. The president
of Harvard resides in their family home, Elmwood at Harvard.
The Whites are also direct descendants of William White of
the Mayflower and their child, Peregrine, the first child of
English descent born in America in 1620. Their uncle,
Charles Eliot (longest serving President of Harvard),
sent George Dorr to Bar Harbor to investigate the beauty of
the area as reported by Hudson River painters, and George
Dorr reported back 'this whole island must be saved!!!'
You are staying on what was the 'crown jewel' of the original
Dorr estate-- where the first Gilded Age mansion in Bar Harbor was constructed. It was called 'Old Farm.' Nothing on MDI compares to this location
and it's view-- this is the center of 'Millionaires
Row' in the Gilded Age.
MOST SPECTACULAR VIEW OF THE OCEAN on the Maine coast.
The crown jewel of the Dorr family estate who established
Acadia National Park. Center and highest location in 'Millionaires Row'
of the Gilded Age of Bar Harbor c. 1885-1910. MOST OF AUGUST AND SEPT NOW BOOKED...CALL FOR DATES...WE DO NOT SHOW DATES ON CALENDAR SINCE MANY VIPS VISIT US DURING AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER.
George W. Vanderbilt to the left and Pulitzer to the right, were neighbors.
Vanderbilt owned 'Biltmore in N.C.' Even Evelyn Walsh
McLean ( owner of the Hope Diamond) lived in BH in the
Briars-- where Nelson Rockefeller was later born. The Biddles
of Philadelphia were all over BH and the Dorances of
Campbell Soup fame owned the largest mansion on the
island, Kenarden Lodge in BH (the point north of our estate)--
they were from Philadephia, and Wayne, Pa.
The breezes on the 'windward side' come off the ocean,
so they are cool and free of pollens and insects!!!!
The town of Bar Harbor is NOT on the windward side-- it
faces North and can be quite warm in the summer without
the ocean breezes--- most of the homes are older as well
and not built to the 'green standard.' Also many older homes also use
fossil fuels which may cause allergy problems along with their
poss lead paint and asbestos insulation throughout and mold.
Please note that we do not allow pets or smoking-- since
some of our guests may have allergy problems.
Kitchen part of Great Family Room with full ocean view so
chef can entertain as well as prepare meals and feel they are
part of the 'party.'
Note: 4 bedrooms with ocean views. Guest suite
with living room (private). Bedrooms are on 3 different floors
so privacy abounds!
House is recently built and utilizes the ocean views with abundant glass in every direction-- one feels like they are
outdoors instead of inside-- the architect's 'vision!' Huge
wrap-around deck gives one the feeling of sitting on the bow
of a yacht or ocean liner.
Huge first floor guest suite with private bath AND private living room and walk in closet, QUEEN and roll away TWIN. Master bedroom on top floor with total privacy and
its own private stair case KING. Main floor has 2 bedrooms
with DOUBLES. Everyone feels like they have their own space!
5 minute walk to town-- forget the car and parking.
Old Farm park and beach at bottom of driveway (part of
Acadia Park). Compass Harbor for launching boats-- there, too.
2 minute walk. Bring your kayak!!!!
Our water is from Eagle Lake-- the best in the U.S. It is
supplied by the Town of Bar Harbor. Load up your water
bottle before hiking or shopping!
WITH OUR SPECIAL $2100 DISCOUNT IT DOESN'T
COST MUCH MORE TO GO FIRST CLASS!!! YOU OWE IT

'We are the Best in Bar Harbor!!!' We have even had
requests for 'weddings' in the house-- check with us for
details. There is no better spot on the planet for a wedding
and broiled lobster and champagne!!!
Acadia Ocean Haus has the most spectacular view of the Ocean in all of Maine!!!!!!!
AND is OCEANFRONT!!!!
Property was owned by the Dorr family who
donated all of the land for Acadia Nat'l Park. It was kept
out of the Park because the family loved the special views
so much. Frederic Church painted his Sunset in Bar
Harbor in the area in front of the house. The rare 'Bar Harbor Pink
Granite' fireplaces were built using rare pink granite (unavailable
today because most is in Acadia Nat'l Park) and designed to be
the biggest and most impressive on MDI-- even dwarfing the
main chimney at Jordan Pond House in Acadia Nat'l Park!!!!!!
No funds were spared to build the fireplaces and chimney as
a 'work of art!'
YOU ARE RENTING THE PREMIER WINDWARD SIDE
OCEANFRONT ESTATE. (For about the price of 2 little
stuffy hotel rooms in Bar Harbor!!!!!)
See huge ocean liners like the QM2 and ocean going yachts
right in front of the house and 'look down on them!'
Eagles nest in the trees and soar down from the house
area to fish and then fly over Porcupine Island in Acadia.
Whales and seals are often seen from the deck of the
house-- depending on the time of year.
Deer, foxes and snowshoe rabbits are often seen in the yard.
This is the most prominent lot on the Windward side of
Mt. Desert Island--- so there are usually breezes but
the house also has central a/c-- which is unheard of in Maine.
Feel like you are in Alaska-- yet Bar Harbor and
all its excitement is a 5 minute walk to town.
The JP Morgan family would gather in the ocean area
to wait for Mr. Morgan and his 'Corsair' yacht to arrive in BH.
GW Vanderbilt's house was to the left and Pulitzer was to the
right in the Gilded Age c. 1885-1900 of Bar Harbor. The views
towards the ocean are the 'most spectacular' on all of Mt. Desert Island without exception!
The house was designed to be efficient with maximum
glass views and trapazoid windows for viewing the ocean and
wildlife (espec eagles).
Acadia National Park is at the bottom of the driveway, the
Old Farm estate in Acadia, has a beach and boat launching area. This area is great for swimming since it is protected
by the Park. 2 minute walk from the house-- next to our driveway entance. Only swim in protected
areas like Acadia Park, next to us.
We offer VIP security if needed.
YOU WILL NEVER FORGET YOUR STAY--- SO TAKE TONS
OF PHOTOS FOR SUPER MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a NEW LISTING. $2100 discount built into pricing by
owner. NOTE: WE DO NOT SHOW OUR BOOKING DATES
ON ANY PUBLIC WEB SITE -- SEND INQUIRY FOR YOUR
DATES OF INTEREST.
