Since retiring in 2006, my husband and I have been searching for our ‘ideal’ winter getaway from the long cold winters in Atlantic Canada. We found that Turks and Caicos Islands as the best location for us to vacation since it has many convenient direct flights from Toronto and Montreal and the flight is less than 4 hours long. The weather is tropical, the language is English, the island has a low crime rate, the currency is US$ and the water is safe to drink. Once we decided on the ‘where’ we started looking for the ‘what’. We wanted a property that could be used long term or short term, was close to grocery and restaurants, did not have high operating costs, did not need the use of a car but had use of the amenities we look for when we holiday (beach access, pool, laundry, king beds, two bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen and free internet access). The Carpe Diem Penthouse was almost too good to be true. Most locals do not know about it since it is such a small development (only 7 units) but recognize it when shown a picture since it is just opposite Salt Mills Plaza. Staying in the penthouse offers security, privacy, lots of deck space and an expansive floorplan since it occupies the entire top floor. The building was built by the same builders of some of the highest end resorts in Provo and we refurbished it to reflect the clean boutique hotel style we favour. To highlight it in its first year of short term rentals we decided to give ultra low rental rates making the ‘Grace Bay Beach Experience’ affordable to those who feel they have been stuck doing all-inclusives or cruises since they were on budget. We love the time we get to spend here and would love to share the experience…give it a try.
