I know I am terribly late in writing this review. I actually thought I had already done one. I am looking at renting it again and when visiting this site I see that I had not so here it is now. We were five professional guys who work together and wanted to get together once outside of our working environment. So fishing the Umpqua river seemed like a great idea and it was. But the one thing that made the trip so easy and enjoyable was the this house. It was the PERFECT place to work out of. Our fishing guides met us nearby in the early morning and everyone all doing some part of dinner either on the grill or in the huge kitchen made it a blast. We even had a great movie night downstairs in the big room with lots of big chairs. I see some of the negative comments regarding the bedrooms but that really isn't a problem if everyone gets along. Everyone was super comfortable in our party.
We rented this place for our little wedding reception and it had everything we needed. We of course had those surprise guests who decided to set up tents on the lawn as they woke up to the serene beauty of the river and they loved it. Not only were our guests impressed with the beauty of this property but the amenities of the house. This property was clean and well-maintained. Tina was very pleasant and helpful in showing us the property when we first showed up, and Sherry was quick to respond to any of our emails. This house is also very close to town which was convenient for those last minute errands that we had to run. We look forward to staying here again.
My friends and I spent a wonderful three day weekend at Whistlers Hideaway. We were there September 4 to September 7. Sherry was always prompt in answering my questions and making us feel welcome. Tina, the property manager, was the greatest! She is friendly and most helpful. I liked her immediately when she showed us around the property. Tina really wanted to make sure we were happy there, and even called to make sure the temperature of the pool was just right -- which it was.
The house was well supplied with everything we could possibly need. The kitchen worked great for group dinners. The four bedrooms worked well for our group. There are two bedrooms that are connected to each other, and there is an outside door which can be used if you don't want to walk through the other bedroom. That was not a problem for us at all. Each bedroom had nice furnishings and all the bedding necessary for cool nights.
The whole house is well built, comfortable, homey and exceptionally clean. The living room and den, with a large TV, worked very well for our gatherings. The outdoor pool was perfect. The river is a short walk through a beautiful lawn area. We swam, and enjoyed being by the river very much. The views out of the windows of this house are so woodsy and beautiful. And it is private. The landscaping is mature and admirable. The house is close to many marvelous waterfalls that we visited.
But just being at the house was the most pleasant. It is peaceful and soothing to the soul. We have just recommended it to a friend of ours. And yes, we are wanting to come next summer.
Thank you again, Sherry and Tina!
This property is exactly as described...clean, roomy and in a wonderful setting. We stayed 5 days in August, the house had all the convenience of a home. We hiked many trails of the Umpqua state parks and visited all the nearby falls. The family spent lots of time in the yard, reading and flying quads. I didn’t have enough time to river rafting or kayaking but is probably possible to kayak all the way from Glide or further away to the home’s backyard!! For supplies, Roseburg is only 20 min away. We also drove 70 minutes to Grants Pass to ride the Jet Boat and eat at Taprock, really worth it. I did not give the house 5 starts for 2 reasons:
a) The pool really needs a water heater. The water is really cold and in a 95 degree weather we couldn’t stay more than 5 minutes inside the pool (we live in San Diego). It would had been fantastic to be able to chill in an inflatable bed or read in a float recliner inside the pool!!!
b) The internet service is very slow. It works for casual browsing, checking email and streaming a movie at very low resolution but I had to drive to town to VPN when needed to work.
If the pool gets heat up I’ll be back!!! :- )
We spent a happy and contented week at the Whistlers Lane Hideaway. The home is perfectly equipped. The lounge gave a great view of the birdlife and wildlife every morning. The media room kept the children happy once the swimming had finished.
We used the property as a base to explore the trails and waterfalls of the North Umpqua and then beyond to Crater Lake. It is also well located to visit the wonderful vineyards west of Roseburg.
Recommended without reservation.
We really enjoyed staying at this house. The property is beautiful and wooded. The pool was well maintained and the decks were awesome. I will warn you that the pool is not actually heated as the post says. We even called to ask. Because it is shaded most of the day it can be pretty cold.
The kitchen is big and full of stuff. I would have actually appreciated a few empty cabinets to store 4 families worth of food for 5 days. But, there were lots of handy kitchen gadgets.
The biggest problem for us was the bedrooms. The description is not clear at all that one of the 'bedrooms' is through another. This is a problem with small kids and privacy. Here is how the rooms lay out.
- master upstairs with tub/shower/toilet attached
- 2nd bedroom downstairs with queen bed( or maybe double) and love seat.
- 3rd bedroom downstairs with two single beds. Under each of those is a pull out trundle bed these are also single mattresses.
- 4th bedroom is through the 3rd bedroom and has a pull out couch.
- bedrooms 2, 3, and 4 share a small downstairs bathroom with a shower.
We made it work but were definitely a bit let down by the lack of heat in the pool and the room layout. If these things are not an issue for you it is a nice rental.
