About Zoya

I have had a long career in international development and traveled extensively for business and pleasure. I enjoy staying in beautiful private homes when I travel - prefer the feeling of home to hotels.

This is my home that I rent in my absence, and it is furnished to make to feel like a home, in a very personal way - with vintage furniture and artifacts, rugs and artwork I have collected traveling around the work. Hope you like this style and will enjoy its multicultural feel.

Zoya purchased this house in 2002

Why Zoya chose Baltimore

This is a special home, decorate creatively and with love. Take a look at the photos. It is in a quiet and friendly diverse neighborhood, but close to everything. Plenty of parking, but the bus stop right next door too. You can walk to Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus and the JHU shuttle stop. Near Preakness, Union Memorial Hospital's Hand Center, Baltimore City Museum, and other sites.

What makes this house unique

Storage space in the basement. YMCA is right next door - has an Olympic size indoor swimming pool and all full fitness facilities. Community children's playground built and cared for by the neighborhoods. Djembe drums if you like to play. Figs and walnuts for picking in the back yard in season. Friendly neighbors.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Zoya's house was perfect. Great layout, beautifully decorated, plenty of rooms for my family- we had 4 adults and one baby. House also was fully equipped with everything we needed. Perfect location for to us given our proximity to family in the area. Zoya was great too, always accessible and had a helpful caretaker.

Very decent house

  • 4 of 5

I recently visited Baltimore on an official trip and took my family along too. My toddler son hates tiny hotel rooms even for a day. You can imagine if I stayed in a hotel with him for a complete week. So, I was looking for a decent extended stay option where we can cook ourselves and it won't be too far from the supermarkets etc. At the same time, knowing that there are avoidable places in the Baltimore city, we were looking for a safe neighborhood as well. On VRBO, came across Zoya's house listing. Looking at the earlier reviews made me believe that this house really fits all our requirements. I contacted Zoya via email before making the payment and received prompt response. Also called Bobby, who looks after the house and speaking to him was really nice. This convinced me to make the payment and book the house.

When we arrived at the house, it was a pure joy that we booked this house. The neighborhood was really nice, clean and quiet. The Giant supermarket was walkable, although you may wanna take your car to be able to buy more stuff and not have to carry them back in your hands. :)

The YMCA is almost visible from the house and walkable as well.

Inside the house, both my wife and I were charmed by Zoya's taste of decoration. The house has 3 nice sized bedrooms, large living room, large dining room and a large kitchen too. All completely furnished with tasteful furniture and accessories. The basement has a very large washer and large drier too. Like I said, fully furnished.

If there is one thing that I should mention as the area of improvement is that, Zoya need to install a dishwasher. Staying for a week without a dishwasher was really a challenge. And the microwave needs to find a place a little lower than where it is. My wife is not so tall and she couldn't use the microwave for its height.

I should mention that Bobby is a really great help all the time. Never unhappy no matter how many times you call him and for whatever. Also, Zoya was very responsive all through via email. :)

I guess I have covered all the aspects.

In Summary, I would rent this place again if Zoya installs the dishwasher. I have given it a 4 star rating just because of the lack of dishwasher. If you don't care about a dishwasher, there is nothing else you would be able to complain about this house. Book confidently.

Highly Recommended

We reserved Zoya's home for a family reunion, with family members converging in Baltimore from various parts of the world. The home is perfect and met all our needs. Bright and colorful, clean, spacious and very comfortable. After day-long excursions in DC and Atlantic City, it always felt like we were coming home, an experience you will not get at a hotel. We cooked a lot, and the kitchen is well stocked with cooking pots, silverware, linens, serving dishes, etc. New washer and drier in the basement, which allowed us to do laundry while we were there (fyi - we brought our own detergent & bathroom supplies e.g. shower gels, toothpaste). Plenty of bed linens, towels & washcloths were available. Little details, like umbrellas on a rack by the front door, were appreciated.

Robert, the property manager, was very gracious and considerate towards us, and made sure we had everything we needed. When we needed an extra cooking pot, wine opener and thermos for hot tea, he lent these to us from his personal kitchen. While we were away for 4 days visiting NYC, Robert took care of pulling out the garbage to the curb on our behalf so we didn't have to worry about missing the pick-up date.

Close to Giant Foods, YMCA and children's park, exactly as described. Easy drive to area attractions, Inner Harbor, and close to John Hopkins Uni. Near Lake Montebello for an evening stroll. It is a solid home, built with concrete and as such, very quiet and you will not hear your neighbors. Nice back patio with table and two chairs. Wifi was excellent, as were TV stations. There are more than four channels, and we carried dvds that our nephew could enjoy.

We hosted a farewell dinner on our last evening, and the home comfortably accommodated a larger group for one last meal together. Whether traveling solo or with a small group, plan on cooking or eating out, this home will more than adequately provide for your needs. What you use by way of paper towels, foil, trash can liners, etc., simply replenish so the visitor after you can also enjoy. We brought our own disposable plates and cups to limit dishwashing.

Zoya maintained great communication from the time we made the reservation and for the duration of our stay. Zoya, we appreciate staying in your home, it is a charm, I highly recommend it, and would rent it again. Your home is in good hands under the care of your property manager, Robert. We also appreciate your referring us to his property for the extra rooms we needed.

The house was exactly as I expected, the pictures are very accurate. It is a very charming house. I went with my daughters and felt very safe. The owner and the caretaker were so nice. The caretaker made sure that I knew that he was available if we needed anything. I loved our stay!! :)

Quiet safe neighborhood and very clean

  • 4 of 5

The house was very clean and comfortable. The wireless internet was easy to use. We enjoyed the deck on the back of the house which had lots of early morning sun and overlooks a beautiful magnolia and fig tree. The neighborhood is very quiet and nice. We felt very safe. Convenient location to all Baltimore has to offer. We were at Camden Yards in minutes.

House has lots of charm most of the original fixtures are still in great shape the rooms are very colorful and show the owners personality. Neighborhood was quiet and parking is easy accessible. The Roses at the front entrance and back deck are beautiful and very fragrant.

TV is just digital 4 local channels only.

Would stay at this location again.

I never thought I would ever live in a city until I found my haven in Ednor Gardens. A mix of people: young and older, with ancestors from every part of the globe, make it, block by block, the best place to live in Baltimore.

Notes:
Quiet and friendly neighborhood, walking distance from Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus, Giant supermarket and the YMCA. Bus stop is a few feet away and JHU shuttle stops down the street at JHU Eastern Campus. Two buses go downtown. Ednor Gardens is distinguished by its Tudor, Norman, and, later, Colonial style rowhouses that reflect national changes in residential architectural tastes between the mid 1920s into the late 1930s. For the first time in fifty years, Ednor Gardens-Lakeside and surrounding neighborhoods are sleepy and quiet- no longer echoing with the cheers of sports fans from the now razed Memorial Stadium.
