About John Lauro

After visiting Greenville, ME for 3 days, I put money down on a home! The North Woods area TRULY embraces the meaning behind Maine's slogan, 'Maine, the way life should be!'. I have enjoyed both the area and the people of this town for 14 years and counting. My kids have gown up vacationing here, and I hope their kids will enjoy it someday as well. Being from Philadelphia, PA this cabin is the PERFECT retreat to get away from it all!

John Lauro purchased this cabin in 2000

Why John Lauro chose Greenville

This is a comfortable, fully equipped house, secluded, private, and yet 5.5 miles from activities downtown. Relax by a fire outside and enjoy the night air and millions of stars in the sky, or sit comfortably inside by a wood stove fire, play games, watch satellite TV, or just have good conversations with family and friends. Morning coffee on the large front porch on a nice day makes it all worth it!

What makes this cabin unique

Once I saw the winter night sky for the first time, I knew I was home! I am not a star gazer, nor versed in astronomy, but the first time I saw the constellation Orion, and could view the ENTIRE archer profile, I knew this place was something special. I will also never forget one morning sitting on the front porch, drinking my coffee, when a bull moose came walking down the driveway, stopped, and stared at me for a good 4-5 minutes. We were just being good neighbors and enjoying the morning sun!

All the amenities!

Great cabin with all the amenities you need. It was great to wake up in the morning and watch the news while drinking coffee that was supplied in the cabin!

5 of us rented it to use as base camp for a snowmobile trip and it is close to ITS 85. We had to flag down the groomer to get directions but once we located it we were pleasently surprised how easy it was to get to. For any potential snowmobilers - Take the Sandy Bay trail and follow for about 1.5 miles until you see a large gravel pit on the right side of the trail. Follow the single track trail to the back right corner of the pit and there is a smalll trail that will take you to the neighborhood where the cabin is located. Take a right on the road unitl you see Virgina Lane.

I would definitely rent it again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the good review and I'm glad you had a good time. I can't take credit for the coffee, so a big "thank you" to the last tenants for leaving it for the next guests! I also appreciate the details for the feeder trail to the ITS. I kept calling it the "Beaver Cove" trail, but it is the "Sandy Bay Trail" that connects the neighborhood to the ITS. Hope to see you again the next time you visit Greenville, and thanks again!

A great stay!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was great! What you see in the pictures is what you get; it's very easy to find and included lots of amenities. The cabin had everything we needed and was very clean and well-kept. John was easy to get a hold of and answered any question I had. It's located close to Prong Pond, Moosehead Lake and the center of town, but it was also pretty secluded too. Overall I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get away.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review and I am glad to hear the cabin was to your liking. Many have commented on how secluded it is and yet close to town. It happens to be one of the main reason I like it also. I hope you will consider Moose's Hideaway again when you visit the area again!

Amazing cabin!

Very comfortable and clean. Loved the wood burning stove and fire pit! Prong Pond is absolutely beautiful and we had a chance to rent some canoes and enjoy an afternoon there. Hope to come back next summer!

Owner's Response: I am very happy to hear you had a nice vacation and a pleasant stay at Moose's Hideaway. Canoes and kayaks are great for Prong Pond - it's a relatively shallow pond and the water is not too rough. I hope to see you again next summer!

Awesome home in the woods!

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic home. Easy to find and one of the few houses on the street. A short walk through the woods to Prong Pond and trails around the house. Fresh moose tracks in the woods just behind the house. Birding is great around the house and walking along the road. Plenty of space inside and the front porch was lovely. Kitchen is small but worked for our family of four. Plenty of sleeping space!

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed Moose's Hideaway and look forward to the possibility of being chosen again for your next vacation to the Moosehead Lake area. I plan on getting a new hummingbird feeder setup on the porch for next year with simple instructions to fill it (I think a moose knocked down and broke my last one!). Thanks for the great review!

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

Everyone loved the place. I liked the layout. Town isn't too far away. We found the path out back that leads to Prong pond. A couple of us brought fly rods and waders and caught some nice brook trout. Moosehead is just down the way as well and I've never seen so many moose outside of Carrabassett valley. Overall a nice cabin in a great part of Maine. I'd like to go up again next year.
