|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Gentle Winds is a private community located on the North Shore Road on St. Croix with it's own beach, pool, Beach Shack and tennis courts. Our newly renovated condo has three bedrooms each with a king sized bed, three full baths and built out closets in each bedroom.
We live just outside Washington, DC in Bethesda and have three grown daughters who were raised here. My husband and I met in Vermont and after moving for school and work settled here where we have lived on the same street for 27 years. You could say we love our neighborhood!
Marcia Wagner purchased this condo in 2010
After renting at Gentle Winds for many years we purchased I-8 and did a complete renovation which took a while but it was well worth it. We love to play golf which is what attracted us to the island in the first place and we also enjoy the beach, sailing and hiking.
The setting at Gentle Winds is unique. When you arrive you just exhale because it is so relaxing and beautiful to look at. We chose to be in the I Building because it is closest to the water and has the best views. The beach and the pool are just a stones throw away and the soothing rhythm of the ocean finds you whether you are inside or out.
This condo is beautiful! The photos are accurate. The property was clean upon our arrival and very well maintained. The A/C was not functioning when we arrived, but was fixed while we were still there, though we didn't need it with the breeze blowing through. The temps were perfect! I would highly recommend this condo to anyone!! We enjoyed the beach and the beach shack on property. Sheila, who runs the beach shack is smiley and brings a breath of fresh air to the complex. (and makes great food and drink!!) Bobby, the onsite manager of the condo answered all our questions and was so very helpful throughout our stay! We did the seathroughkayak.com bioluminescent tour, full day Tan Tan Tour, sailed with Cpt. Heinz to Buck Island for snorkeling and enjoying this national park preserve, and highly recommend them all!! We were a group of 8 Bunco girls so there was LOTS of laughing, eating, drinking and enjoying the sun and sand of St. Croix. The pleasant accommodations at Gentle Winds made our time on the island perfect!!! THANK YOU to the owners!!!
This home is absolutely perfect. I'm writing this review from the upstairs master bedroom with the most spectacular view of the mountains, the ocean, the sun and the pool. If you are traveling with family or friends, race up the stairs and claim this bedroom!
One item of note, the beds are pillows are top notch and super comfortable. every comfort of home has been thought of - lots of towels, beach bags provided, tons of closet space and a fully equipped kitchen. It's so QUIET here..the beach is secluded and right outside the door. The pictures do not do this home justice. It's immaculate.
If you are renting a car, bring your GPS (a real one) not on your cell phone. The streets and roads aren't marked the same way as in the U.S. Even with a GPS, it can be tricky, especially with driving on the left side of the road. I didn't expect it to get dark at 5pm but hey, it is winter. Drive around during the day to get the lay of the land. There is hardly any night life here but I came with my 3 sisters and our goal was strictly sun and relaxation.
I have a friend who lived here for a few years and she advised that you MUST greet people properly that live here. Say - good morning, good evening, or good night instead of hello or excuse me. Let me tell you, this is critical. People will not be friendly and perceive you as rude. It was strange for us, but it goes a long way. The local people here seem a little quiet and conservative, but with the proper greeting and a smile, they warm up.
I recommend bringing an extra suitcase with snacks and drinks and checking it. Groceries here are very, very expensive. A pack of Oscar Meyer Center Cut Bacon was $12.99. I do think the restaurant prices were inline with other vacation type areas.
This property was a great choice (patting myself on the back). The layout allows for privacy even when traveling with a group. I felt very welcome in this home and plan to return!
Thought we would have beach to play on. Still the sand is clean, the pool area is nice, and the beach is private.
The condo is very well maintained, beautifully decorated, and quiet. The island manager, Bobby, was very accommodating and helpful.
During our stay on St Croix we did a Buck Island tour and had a blast. We went paddle surfing with Freedom City Surf shop where they were attentive and thorough with instructions, plus their equipment was in exceptional condition. One night we did the bio luminescent kayaking in see through kayaks. It was an amazing sight. We weren't overly found of the tour guide as he felt the need to ramble and tell weird jokes but the experience was something to not be missed. We did spend part of a day on the beach at The Buccaneer resort. Clean sand, clear water, and a delicious food stand.
Eat at Cane Bay, seriously up the road from the condo (don't follow GPS directions) is a must eat at location. Excellent food and location.
The condo is in a good central location on the island as it took us about 15-20 minutes to get to most places. The balconies were used as we started our mornings and ended our evenings on them. So relaxing being able to watch the waves and hear the ocean. We were sad to leave this piece of paradise.
(And in no way at all do the pictures do this condo justice. We loved the decorations, the colors, and tile throughout. The most commented on was the texture of the sheets. Bamboo sheets: soft doesn't begin to describe them)
We've rented various condos at Gentle Winds with our family for more than 15 years and this 3-bedroom unit is the best we've ever stayed in, by far. Ira and Marcia were gracious hosts and have taken great care to newly renovate and furnish the spacious bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and common living area. Because it's a top-floor apartment, the master bedroom has it's own roof-top balcony with stunning western-facing views of the ocean. We watched the sun set behind mountains that come right down to the shore and were lulled to sleep by the gentle roar of the ocean just outside our bedroom window. We enjoyed a full range of amenities at The Gentle Winds complex, such as the very private, sandy-white beach, tennis courts, a salt-water pool, proximity to beautiful golf courses, and a convenient snack/drink shack. After spending so much time outdoors in the sun, it was wonderful coming "home" to this gorgeous condo with its new bathrooms and fully equipped kitchen. For a romantic couple, a family, or a group of six Caribbean vacationers, I fully recommend this five-star beach condo.
This was one of the easiest and best transactions I have ever made in planning and executing a trip. Especially since I had never been to this island. Even those of our group who lived on island said that I made a perfect choice by renting this place.
The description of the property and pictures gave me the location and the amenities perfectly. I knew what our group needed and the documentation gave me exactly what I needed to decide.
The location of this property is excellent.....quiet, pretty and convenient to SCUBA diving, exploring, restaurants or just spending quite time. For our purposes we needed a location good for diving and so we wanted the North side and somewhat central with the property being on the ocean.
This unit was one of the best appointed units I have rented. We enjoyed just being there. We loved the top level master bedroom with sitting area and two bedrooms downstairs with private baths. It was clear that care is put into this place. The cabinetry, furniture and appliances and are all well thought out and made for a very enjoyable place to hang out when we weren't diving! The unit itself is in a nice location on the property, at the end of the complex so that the view from the balconies is simply sand and ocean.
Also, we didn't need anything over and above what was already there and only needed our own personal grocery shopping. All of the things needed to run a home on a daily basis were all there. All we needed to do was do our personal grocery shopping.
As for logistics, once I made the payment to Homeaway (which was simple), the rest fell into place. Marcia (the owner) and I emailed each other with any other specifics and questions we had. Once on island the trip from the airport was simple as directions were perfect. We were having dinner on the patio in no time!
The owner's promptness before and during the trip was excellent and made this such a pleasant experience! And, because there was wifi, all communications were so simple.
I can't say enough good things about this property and its owners. I will be renting this unit when its available very soon. Every day that we rolled in from a day of diving or dinner, we would say, "we're home". A big thank you from me and those who traveled with me.
See you soon!
The Wagner condo at Gentle Winds is the PERFECT place to stay on St. Croix. My husband and I recently had the wonderful opportunity to stay one week in this condo, and our experience was exemplary.
Not only is it newly remodeled in the finest taste, it is also situated in a setting that any couple or family could enjoy. The sound of the surf was music to our Colorado ears and the swimming pool was a joy to sit around after days filled with snorkeling, hiking and sightseeing. The sunsets are magnificent!
There are wonderful restaurants, friendly dive shops and an award winning golf course nearby in addition to a not-to-be-missed local Tuesday night Bingo game at the “Off the Wall” bar.
In addition to the brand new, thoughtfully appointed furnishings and appliances, the Wagner’s have thought of every amenity you could desire including the option of having a local guide meet you at the airport when you arrive.
After traveling almost every inch of St. Croix during our week, we can’t recommend a nicer place to stay – and we saw them all. You can’t miss on this lovely Gentle Winds condo.
