Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Beyoglu - Terrace Three

Apartment, 3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6 or more w optional studio flat)

As a travel writer, I have stayed in apartments around the world. This recently renovated flat - Terrace Three - is one of my favorites.

Terrace Three flat is a large 2+ bedroom flat that can easily be converted to a 3-bedroom, by closing off the salon with a door and using the large convertible couch as a 3rd bed. It may be rented alone or in combination with the studio apartment (Terrace Four) upstairs to make it a 3/4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom, 2 kitchen apartment. Or combined with one of our other 2 flats on the same floor. Private terrace with spell binding views of the mosque-studded skyline of Sultanahmet. The large roof terrace on the floor just above is shared with our 4 flats and offers expansive views, an excellent place to dine and see the famous skyline of Istanbul.

It has views from nearly every room Gleaming wood floors, wood windows, antique wood doors throughout, mosaic tiles in the bathroom, new furniture and Turkish antiques, and beautiful Turkish carpets and textiles on the floors and walls.

Rate includes wifi, phone, satellite flat screen tv, air conditioning and radiant heat.

We can arrange a driver to meet you at the airport for $45 per car. (holds up to 8 guests + luggage). We also offer 1/2 and full day tours.

Rates are for up to 4 guests, and each additional guest is $20 more per night. You may add the studio flat on the floor above for $80 per night.

Lots of seating and food prep area and barbeque on the large roof terrace above. Enjoy a glass of wine while watching ships from around the world enter the Bopshorus from the Marmara Sea. Look across the Golden Horn towards the magical mosque-studded skyline of Sultanahmet. Great for large groups. We have 4 flats in this building 4th and 5th floors, which you may mix and match for your small or large groups.

Or if you are a small group of 6 or fewer, you may enjoy just hanging on your private terrace which also has beautiful views.

The Galata area cannot be beat for convenience, views, central location, historic panache, shopping, dining, entertainment, and a fabulous mix of old and new. Just 1 block from the historic Galata Tower, the neighborhood is charming and full of history at every turn. Lately many boutiques and cafes have begun opening in the area and it is the newest bohemian artistic cultural haunt in Istanbul.

The streets near this flat overflow with tea gardens and dining establishments - from street vendors selling fresh pomegranate juice and kabobs, to Turkish meyhanes with live music, to world class restaurants . Stores in the area sell everything from hand painted Iznik tiles and nargile pipes, to Turkish musical instruments, to fresh spices, to fresh-caught fish at the seaside. Walk to the Modern Museum or take the tram to Hagia Sofia Mosque....all of this and much more these flats.

A short walk puts you in Istanbul's best dining and entertaining area of Tunel, which is the area on the opposite end of the famous pedestrian walkway called Istiklal, from Taksim Square. At last count there were over 1000 restaurants and bars on this street and surrounding alleyways.

A short walk down the hill puts you at the Galata Bridge. Walk across passing the hundreds of Turkish men fishing from the pier, past fish restaurants on the lower level of the bridge, or catch the tram and take it all the way to Sultanahmet. On the other side of the bridge is the Egyptian Spice Bazaar and a bit further on, is the world's first and oldest indoor shopping mall - the Grand Bazaar.

This area has far too many attractions to begin to list them all!

5 flights of stairs in this typical 'old' Istanbul building. The flat is quiet.

Cook and dine outside with all of Istanbul at your feet either on your private terrace or on the large roof terrace above. Stunning views all around.

Terrace Three is on the 5th floor of an old rustic building one of the designated historic areas of Istanbul. No elevator, and worth the climb! The optional 3rd bedroom/studio flat is just up one flight of stairs, on the 6th floor. We have 2 other flats on the same floor with Terrace Three which you may rent to accommodate a large group.

50% DISCOUNTS off regular season rates Nov 15-March 15, excluding holidays.

About Robin Sparks

I am a travel writer and former travel magazine editor who has lived and traveled around the world . I began renting flats in Istanbul in 2006 to bring Westerners to the 'real' Istanbul. Istanbul is magic - my favorite city in the world. It is my hope that by staying in one of my flats, that you will leave Istanbul as much in love with the city and its people as I am.

Robin Sparks purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Robin Sparks chose Beyoglu

Gorgeous views from atop this hill near Galata Tower, easy access to all the sites, a great variety of shopping, and just because this area is fascinating historically, culturally and gastronomically. Never a dull moment in this neighborhood! Full of artists and creative types. It has everything I look for in a lively big city neighborhood.

What makes this apartment unique

Views unlike any you'll find anywhere else. You may not want to leave the flat with Istanbul at your feet! From the flat you can watch the ships from around the world move up and down the Bosphorus, enter and exit the Marmara Sea, and view the famous mosque-studded skyline of Sultanahmet.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The apartment and location have been fantastic. We couldn’t have asked for better accommodations - everything was perfect. We will definitely recommend this place to any friends that we have who travel to Istanbul. And when next we come, we will be contacting you again!

Thank you so much for everything. Istanbul is magical - we will miss it greatly.

Incredible view, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This apartment in the upscale Cihangar neighborhood of Beyoglu is really special. The views of the Bosphorus afford sunset and sunrise vistas (at least in the Winter months), as well as an amazing view of the Asian shore and across the Golden Horn to Sultanhamet.

The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is simple yet quite functional, the Ottoman's Bedroom is a great place to sprawl out and relax after a day of sightseeing. The neighborhood is quiet - the apartment is a few streets removed from the main bustle of Cihangar, and quite a bit removed from the noise of Taksim, yet Taksim is still an easy walk. Metro, buses, tram and ferries are all within easy walking distance of the apartment.

Altogether, a really great place to stay. Myself and two friends spent 3 weeks here, and we wish we could have doubled it!

The ad misrepresents the space. Many disappointments.

  • 2 of 5

The ad mentions that it has 2.5 bathrooms and sleeps 9. The space we occupied when renting from this ad had a toilet and small sink in one little room and a shower plus sink in the laundry room. I would call that one split bathroom. As we were four adults we chose this apartment over others because of the 2.5 bathrooms. It also says that it sleeps 9. Well we had two bedrooms and a couch in the living room so max 6. It didn't matter for us but it was wrong. There were many other problems:1. The driver did not show up as had been arranged. After waiting 30 minutes and asking other drivers what we should do, one arranged for us to go in another taxi. 2. We lost our hot water on the morning of October 11th so had no hot water that day, the 12th, as well as our departure day on the 13th. When I tried to call Davide to let him know, I found out the telephone did not work. Luckily I found him the night of the 11th in the hallway. Three workmen and Davide came to try to fix it on the 2nd day. After a few hours, they said they would return around 5 pm. They rang our bell at 11 pm that night when we were all asleep as we had an early morning departure. We did not let them in. Who knows how long they needed to fix it! And we were not about to let three strangers in at that hour. 3. The bedside lamp in one room is broken. 4. Many burnt out bulbs or ceiling light fixtures that have only one bulb when they need three. No proper light in living room to read. 5. TV DVD CD player need instructions. 6. All the door hinges needed oiling. 7. The plaster all around the window in the shower is collapsing due to the humidity-that needs serious attention. Basically it is a beautiful location with the wonderful terrace but the place is neglected. It is one thing to neglect your own place but to rent it out, you need to take care of it. On a positive note, Davide really tried his best but what could he do? He did give us wonderful suggestions for places to visit. I would not recommend this place. There are many others with views.

Owner's Response: Dear Barbara, I was very distressed to receive your review and have gone over each point in order to respond here. First, this flat is advertised clearly as having 2 bathrooms - 1 large with shower and sink/vanity and washing machine, the other a small bathroom with toilet & sink. This is a typical configuration of most flats in Istanbul. We are also clear on the ad that the flat has 2 bedrooms and a sleeper sofa in the living room (which can be closed off with a door to create a third bedroom). It's possible you misread the ad as we mention that by adding the studio flat on the floor above, one will have 2.5 bathrooms and up to 4 bedrooms (hence ability to sleep 9) with this flat if the studio is added. I apologize if this was not clear to you. About the hot water. For 1 week we had numerous problems with both city shut offs of water, and then the water heater malfunctioning and my staff worked 24/7 trying to repair it. All repairs have now been made and it is very unfortunate that you had to suffer through this week of repairs. It can be difficult to get repairs done quickly in Istanbul, especially on the weekend. All bulbs in the lamps have been replaced and information about how to use the TV and DVD player have been placed near the television. I am not sure what happened with your airport pick up as this has never happened before. But we have notified the airport transport company about your dissatisfaction and have retained a new driver, in response to your complaint. Once again, I am sorry. We strive to make each and every stay as comfortable and stress free as possible. Yours is the first negative review we have ever received on this popular flat. We have taken care of all issues now and hope that you will let us make it up to you on your next visit to Istanbul by giving you a substantial discount to make up for your discomfort. Thank you for your review. It is essential, albeit unfortunate, when it happens, that I hear both the good and the bad so that we can keep our flats in top condition.

spectacular view

  • 5 of 5

This place really delivers. It was everything we had hoped for on our four night stay here. Beautifully finished with polished pine floors and trim, very updated bathroom, comfortable beds, fully furnished and functional kitchen, attentive staff. But the star attraction is the terrace and its view - not you the eye-popping monuments of Sultanhamet, but also the Bosphorus, Marmara Sea and Golden Horn. One flight up is a larger rooftop terrace with a slightly more expansive view. Really very special.

Stunning view from private terrace

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I (late 30s) stayed for 5 nights in this comfortable, well-stocked, 2- bedroom apartment on our first trip to Istanbul. It was more apartment than we needed, but we really wanted to enjoy a private terrace with a view.

Layout: Main bedroom is in the back away from the street, so noise isn't an issue. This room also has a quiet, effective A/C. The apartment is perhaps best suited for 2 couples or a family of 4. Note that the 2nd bdrm doesn't have an A/C, which might be an issue in hotter weather. We fell in love with the beautiful terrace that welcomes visitors to a panoramic view of the Bosphorus, as well as Old City sights, including Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. Wonderful place to end busy sightseeing days, watching the city sparkle and the ferries sail out on the river.

Amenities: These included some handy basics, including laundry and dish detergent, basic bathroom toiletries, kitchen supplies and an enormous 10 gallon (?) jug of water. (May seem silly to mention this, but other apartments we've rented haven't always been this thoughtful!) Lots of linens, towels & pillows available. All were quite comfortable to sleep on. There is a good washer/dryer located in the bathroom that came in handy. The rest of the furnishings are basic, but functional. (Some lightbulbs do need replacing however.) Good Wi-fi signal, nice TV. The bathroom has a nice shower head, with good water pressure and temperature.

Location: the building itself is very old and not very attractive. Big drawback for some will be apartment's location on the fifth floor, as there is no lift, but many (many!) stairs. Not recommended for those with mobility issues, little ones to carry, etc. You will not want to forget anything once you leave! Also, the building is located uphill from Karakoy tram stop (or downhill from funicular), so that involves more climbing. There is a decent supermarket nearby for basics, as well as ATMs. The neighborhood is exciting, with lots of restaurants, bars and cafes nearby (check out Agik Muftak, just a few blocks away).

Lastly, communication with Davide, the booking assistant, was pleasant and courteous - he patiently answered all my questions and ALWAYS responded promptly via email and met us upon arrival. Really pleasant person. Payment via Paypal was also efficient, glad to have that option.

I'm really glad we chose this apartment & would certainly recommend it to others! Enjoy your time in Istanbul!

Istanbul Apartment with Great View Near Galata Tower

  • 4 of 5

This apartment is centrally located for access to the best sights in Istanbul - a short walk downhill and to the tram and you shortly arrive at Haja Sofia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace, as well as the cistern and an authentic Turkish bath. Prior guest reviews prepared us for the graffiti on the building exterior and the barren entry way and staircases - and the 100+ stairs to the apartment. We were pleased by the helpfulness of the staff member who greeted us and showed us the apartment and very happy with the apartment's amenities and cleanliness. It really is only a three-bedroom/den apartment if the efficiency above is rented with it - another 30 stairs or so, however. The terrace in the main apartment was a big hit with our family - the view is incomparable. I'd say we spent more time outside than in, either on that small terrace or on the rooftop terrace, which had an even more commanding view. The efficiency can handle two adults or possibly three teens (not suitable for unsupervised children for safety reasons). The rooftop terrace had a lot of activity from other guests throughout the building, so it was nice to be able to shut the bedroom door of the efficiency, crank up the air conditioner, and sleep in the quiet. For those averse to climbing uphill and then climbing one hundred stairs, take the funicular to just above Galata Tower and walk down - we highly recommend the gelato store in the youth hostel building on the left hand side of the main drag. It was excellent.
