Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Beyoglu - Terrace Three
Apartment, 3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6 or more w optional studio flat)
As a travel writer, I have stayed in apartments around the world. This recently renovated flat - Terrace Three - is one of my favorites.
Terrace Three flat is a large 2+ bedroom flat that can easily be converted to a 3-bedroom, by closing off the salon with a door and using the large convertible couch as a 3rd bed. It may be rented alone or in combination with the studio apartment (Terrace Four) upstairs to make it a 3/4 bedroom, with 2.5 bathroom, 2 kitchen apartment. Or combined with one of our other 2 flats on the same floor. Private terrace with spell binding views of the mosque-studded skyline of Sultanahmet. The large roof terrace on the floor just above is shared with our 4 flats and offers expansive views, an excellent place to dine and see the famous skyline of Istanbul.
It has views from nearly every room Gleaming wood floors, wood windows, antique wood doors throughout, mosaic tiles in the bathroom, new furniture and Turkish antiques, and beautiful Turkish carpets and textiles on the floors and walls.
Rate includes wifi, phone, satellite flat screen tv, air conditioning and radiant heat.
We can arrange a driver to meet you at the airport for $45 per car. (holds up to 8 guests + luggage). We also offer 1/2 and full day tours.
Lots of seating and food prep area and barbeque on the large roof terrace above. Enjoy a glass of wine while watching ships from around the world enter the Bopshorus from the Marmara Sea. Look across the Golden Horn towards the magical mosque-studded skyline of Sultanahmet. Great for large groups. We have 4 flats in this building 4th and 5th floors, which you may mix and match for your small or large groups.
Or if you are a small group of 6 or fewer, you may enjoy just hanging on your private terrace which also has beautiful views.
The Galata area cannot be beat for convenience, views, central location, historic panache, shopping, dining, entertainment, and a fabulous mix of old and new. Just 1 block from the historic Galata Tower, the neighborhood is charming and full of history at every turn. Lately many boutiques and cafes have begun opening in the area and it is the newest bohemian artistic cultural haunt in Istanbul.
The streets near this flat overflow with tea gardens and dining establishments - from street vendors selling fresh pomegranate juice and kabobs, to Turkish meyhanes with live music, to world class restaurants . Stores in the area sell everything from hand painted Iznik tiles and nargile pipes, to Turkish musical instruments, to fresh spices, to fresh-caught fish at the seaside. Walk to the Modern Museum or take the tram to Hagia Sofia Mosque....all of this and much more these flats.
A short walk puts you in Istanbul's best dining and entertaining area of Tunel, which is the area on the opposite end of the famous pedestrian walkway called Istiklal, from Taksim Square. At last count there were over 1000 restaurants and bars on this street and surrounding alleyways.
A short walk down the hill puts you at the Galata Bridge. Walk across passing the hundreds of Turkish men fishing from the pier, past fish restaurants on the lower level of the bridge, or catch the tram and take it all the way to Sultanahmet. On the other side of the bridge is the Egyptian Spice Bazaar and a bit further on, is the world's first and oldest indoor shopping mall - the Grand Bazaar.
This area has far too many attractions to begin to list them all!
5 flights of stairs in this typical 'old' Istanbul building.
Cook and dine outside with all of Istanbul at your feet either on your private terrace or on the large roof terrace above. Stunning views all around.
Terrace Three is on the 5th floor of an old rustic building one of the designated historic areas of Istanbul. No elevator, and worth the climb! The optional 3rd bedroom/studio flat is just up one flight of stairs, on the 6th floor. We have 2 other flats on the same floor with Terrace Three which you may rent to accommodate a large group.

About Robin Sparks
I am a travel writer and former travel magazine editor who has lived and traveled around the world . I began renting flats in Istanbul in 2006 to bring Westerners to the 'real' Istanbul. Istanbul is magic - my favorite city in the world. It is my hope that by staying in one of my flats, that you will leave Istanbul as much in love with the city and its people as I am.
Robin Sparks purchased this apartment in 2010
Why Robin Sparks chose Beyoglu
Gorgeous views from atop this hill near Galata Tower, easy access to all the sites, a great variety of shopping, and just because this area is fascinating historically, culturally and gastronomically. Never a dull moment in this neighborhood! Full of artists and creative types. It has everything I look for in a lively big city neighborhood.
What makes this apartment unique
Views unlike any you'll find anywhere else. You may not want to leave the flat with Istanbul at your feet! From the flat you can watch the ships from around the world move up and down the Bosphorus, enter and exit the Marmara Sea, and view the famous mosque-studded skyline of Sultanahmet.

I thought I should tell you how much we enjoyed our stay in your Terrace 3 flat. Galata is a lovely area and once we worked out the local shops and trams we found it very convenient to the major tourist sights and day-to-day supplies.
It was our bolt hole away from the hustle and bustle of Istanbul. The four of us never felt cramped and the beds provided a good night's sleep. And then there was the view from the patio. Fantastic! We could watch the ferries, ships and residents come and go. We particularly enjoyed a pre-dinner drink on the patio looking out over the Golden Horn and Bosphorus. And when we returned in the evening from the Galata Kitchen or the fantastic fish restaurant just up the road we could watch day turn into night.
The apartment is well equipped and supplied and there were simple things like soap, washing detergent and dish washing liquid at hand.
We appreciated Elif coming to the rescue when Louise had a filling fall out and making an appointment promptly with the dental hospital. That was an experience in itself, and the filling was replaced at a price way below what we would pay in Australia.
Yes, there were the 91 steps to the apartment, but after about a week our thighs had got used to the climb. Istanbul is a city where you are always going up a hill or down one.
We would be more than happy to book Terrace 3 again.
Cheers, Peter and Louise and our two adult children.
