My wife and I needed a rest. Bermuda is our favourite place to go. We happened across Wendell on VRBO. His place is just across from the Southampton Hotel in a quiet neighbourhood on the cliffs overlooking a nearly private cove and great beach. The swimming was great! Wendell isn't your average host. Believe every previous review!
At the last minute, our adult son asked if he could join us because he had some time off. We called Wendell, but he only had the 1 room. He called a friend who had a place further along the coast and he set the whole thing within a day. Our son also ended up at a beautiful house on a cliff with a spectacular view. (we can't thank you enough for doing that, Wendell)
Wendell picked us up at the airport, and offered to show us some sights on the way to his place. We were happy to have a private tour, and 3 very interesting hours later, we arrived at his lovely house. We learned and saw more on that tour than on all our previous visits! Wendell offered to take us anywhere we wanted to go while we were there. He is a generous and kind person who instantly seemed like an old friend. If you want a real personal touch, stay at Wendell's. By the way, if you really like unique experiences, ask him about the best fish sandwich on the island! We look forward to seeing you again, Wendell. Thanks!
All of the previous reviews were spot on! Wendell and Xinia are wonderful people full of information about the island and the many things you can do there. They picked us up from the airport (and took us back) and gave us a tour Hamilton and drove along Shouth Shore Rd past our place to show us around a little more.
We were not planning on staying inside very much, so the unit was perfect for us. Why waste money on some extravigant hotel room when you are just sleeping in it? Nothing negative to mention. The unit is on the road side of his house. The traffic is not heavy or loud. You get to look out onto one of the golf courses. There is a sitting area there, but we used the deck in the front of the house. Sunrise and sunset on the ocean. I could do that everyday! We grilled in 2 of the nights on the small grill and we were able to warm up in the hot tub after getting caught in an afternoon rain storm (which was predicted, but it was so nice in the morning that we still went to St. George's).
We decided to rent a scooter and then were off on our adventures. We drove all over the island in our 5 days and saw almost everything on the list. Lighthouses. Forts. Naval Dockyard. The Railway. Caverns. Parks/Gardens. Beaches. Churches. Shopping. Horseback Riding. Our travel was not in tourist season, so we were able to get around without any problems. At no time did we feel insecure while being out-and-about. The beaches were empty of people. Occationally, we would pass someone else on the beach, but for the most part it was just us, playing in the water, or relaxing with snacks. The water was still warm. Absolutely breathtaking views. The locals are extremely friendly and eager to assist you. The positivity radiates from everyone. It truly is an amazing place that I intend to re-visit many times.
My husband and I stayed at Wendell and Xinia's home for our 10th visit to Bermuda. They were wonderful in picking us up from the airport and stopping at a gas station store for some quick supplies before arriving at their home. The studio was great with all the components needed for a 6 day stay but the room is really on South Rd and it is a short walk around to the front to get a view of the Bermuda water. There is no view from the room at all. While that was the only draw back it really was a surprise as to where the rental room is situated on the property and the lack of view from the room. There is also a large satellite dish almost directly in front of the door so this was not the most scenic spot to sit even though there are chairs. While this was not a deal breaker it is surprising no one has mentioned the lack of a view from the room. The blue and green waters of Bermuda keep us coming back and we like to view them as much as we can, to look outside the window and see South Rd was not my vision of Bermuda I was hoping for.
We enjoyed having cheese and crackers and drinks at the cool tub out front each afternoon and the view from there is magnificent. We saw the full moon from here and even a couple shooting stars. We used the private beach several days and there were usually only 3-5 people each time. The water was perfect the warmest it has ever been but we always come in the spring. I think from now on we'll be coming in September.
We rented a motor boat from Grotto Bay Blue Hole Watersports and had a wonderful day. If you like boating that is a great area with lots of islands to explore.
We like to stay at small quaint apartments and inns and this was great and Wendell and Xinia were perfect hosts. Wendell's mom even drove us to the airport the day of departure.
We just returned from a dream vacation. It started from the moment we were picked at the airport up by Wendell and Xinia. They gave us a gracious welcome, then conducted a mini-"guided tour" of the island on the trip to their home. In the process, they got a good feel for our interests, and were able to direct us to restaurants, parks, and events that we would enjoy.
Believe the other five star reviews! The million-dollar view, the wonderful location, the gracious hosts and clean/well appointed apartment are all accurate. We can add a few more features. The apartment has beach chairs, an umbrella and snorkeling gear for two. There is no need to rent or bring your own.
It is an easy ten minute walk to the famous Horseshoe Bay. (Check to see if a cruise ship in. The beach could be crowded.) If you want solitude and good snorkeling, the apartment's private beach is the place to go. And Church Bay, a quick bus trip from the apartment, has the best bay snorkeling. (It's easiest to enter the water near the foot of the steps. Rocks in the surf make it tricky to enter farther down the beach.)
We also enjoyed watching stars on the deck (trying the Star Walk app was fun). Sitting in the beautiful garden area and feeding the birds was a special treat. And, of course, chatting with Wendell and Xenia was always a pleasure. They are truly special people.
We can't wait to go back.
We stayed 8 days at Whispering Waves and loved every minute of it! The room was exactly as pictured with a nice large bathroom attached. The location truly is perfect. We opted to use the bus system and we were able to get directly to most of the main beaches (Horseshoe Bay, Church Bay, Jobson's Cove and Elbow beach) and to the craft shops at the main port without having to change buses at all. It was so convenient! Especially because the bus stop is literally right outside the gate.
I will never forget the gorgeous turquoise waters of Bermuda and the little cove below the house which was usually completely empty except for us... We felt like we had our own private beach! There are many stairs to get there (we counted 125!) but it was well worth it! If you decide to rent a motor scooter, you can also access their cove by vehicle.
The Simons were perfect hosts, giving us all the info we needed to get around, but also allowing us complete privacy. Wendell also gave us an anniversary gift upon arrival!
I would definitely recommend this property to everyone!
You know it's an amazing vacation when you return with a longing feeling for your Bermuda "home away from home"!!!
Wendell and Xinia went out of their way to make our stay special and treat us like family. We opted for a more adventuresome vacation and this property/coordination with Wendell... DELIVERED. Every day, we hopped on our scooter and navigated to one of the many hidden gems that Wendell and Xinia readily provided.
The property is exactly as described (probably better!), very clean, and ideally located for scooters and bus passengers alike. The studio apartment catered to our every need. We even got into a habit of watching the stars (not to mention a double rainbow and fireworks!) from the surreal vantage point of the property's prominent deck.
Thanks to Wendell and Xinia… they are special people with a special place to offer those that are Bermuda-bound!!!
