My husband and I are both architects living between New York and Paris. I grew up in Germany, England, the US and moved to France to study architecture. I also have a Masters of Architecture from Columbia University in New York. We have two children who are currently enrolled at the International School of Brooklyn.
Jessica Label-Blandin purchased this apartment in 2000
We bought our property in the year 2000 and transformed it into an architecture studio with a large duplex apartment for ourselves above. With our move to New York and our trans-atlantic traveling, we decided to transform the rear part of the office into an independent apartment.
When we first visited our place, we immediately fell in love with it. It's tucked away in a second courtyard where we wake up to hear birds singing. It has a country feel to it although it's in the middle of the city. The building you have to go through to enter the second courtyard is a landmark 'hôtel particulier' and both courtyards still have the original large cobblestones. There's a huge tree in the private courtyard that the rental looks out onto. It's very green, quiet and bucolic, which gives us an exceptional quality of life, being also in the heart of Paris. It's a modern, contemporary space in the heart of one of the oldest landmark areas of Paris.
We had a great stay in the apartment. Both Jessica and Philip were great hosts and the apartment was just as shown in the photos. We visit Paris every year and will definitely consider staying here again next year. We always walk and use the Metro while in Paris so the Marais is an excellent location to do both. I only gave 4 stars because I can't imagine what it aces to reach 5 stars.
A very well appointed and quite appartment in a good location in the fashionable Marrais. Very confortable for two. Plenty of nice places to eat nearby. About 10 minutes to nearest Metro.
This apartment was perfectly located. It was in a quite location close to the hustle and bustle. Restaurants and grocery stores were close by, three metro stops were within an 8 minute walk, and bus stops even closer.
Jessica was a wonderful host and very helpful. The apartment was clean and well appointed. You could cook a full meal in the kitchen, the refrigerator was large and there was a dishwasher and washer/dryer combination. The bathroom was on the smallish side, but perfectly functional.
The patio area was perfect, especially at night with the lights on. It was bigger than the pictures indicated. What I liked most about the apartment was the modern design and all of the natural light. It was almost like you were outdoors all the time.
I would definitely stay here again.
We had a wonderful stay here. Jessica responded to our requests quickly before our stay and was very reliable with timing when we arrived. The apartment is very unique with the glass roof right under a beautiful tree. It's very well located and very peaceful. The bed is incredibly comfortable. We were able to walk to some lovely cafés for breakfast in the morning as well.
We stayed for a week. The only downside we would share is that after a week, the small bathroom can start to become more challenging and also the size of the kitchen. The apartment also had a leak when it rained. Other than this, it is excellent.
This property is amazing! The neighborhood is completely charming with plenty of interesting and friendly people, boutiques, bars, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. The apartment is extremely clean, bright and cheery, beautifully designed, and provides everything that one would need to feel at home. The operating manuals were very helpful for using the appliances. The owner, Jessica, was also super helpful and sent detailed directions, recommendations for the area...where to shop, eat, and how to get around. The sleeping loft is perfect with the glass ceiling and the view of the beautiful trees above. The bathroom is an excellent size, with plenty of hot water in the spacious shower. We used the kitchen for 90% of our meals and lacked nothing to prepare gourmet food.
We completely enjoyed the sweet, plant-filled outside patio and spent lots of time there at night enjoying wine from the local stores and the small twinkling lights. I traveled with my sister to visit my niece and her boyfriend who live in Paris. He actually proposed marriage to her on the patio and we planned the entire Parisian wedding during our stay.
When traveling, i tend to avoid touristy places, however, I highly recommend the truffle-stuffed pasta at Angelina. The best pasta dish of my life!
A great ride to/from the airport was provided by Blacklane Limousines. I booked them as well for my niece's wedding. If you plan on getting married in Paris, I would also highly recommend David Bacher as your photographer.
My stay was actually for a week in March 2013, and I am just getting around to writing the review. If you are traveling to Paris, you would feel at home in this perfect little slice of heaven. Thank you Jessica and Phillipe for creating a great place for four adults to enjoy a week of family time.
We stayed in this treehouse for a week to celebrate the New Year in Paris... The Marais location (our favorite arrondisement for lodging) is central and calm, as it is tucked away behind two courtyards. The small apartment, designed by owners/architects, has a full wall of windows and skylights that brighten the place and give you a view into the trees. It feels much larger than it is; we hosted five guests for aperitifs one evening with no problem. Jessica and Philippe were available and affable.
Our incredibly charming duplex loft is ideally located in the best part of the trendy Marais district in Paris, just steps away from the Marché des Enfants Rouges, the Centre Pompidou, the Picasso Museum (reopening Summer 2013), galleries, restaurants and shops. You can walk to the river Seine and the Place des Vosges. We're also in the heart of the Paris fashion week area where several times a year the art galleries are transformed into fashion showrooms. The nearest metro stations at about equal distance are St Sébastien Froissart (line 8) and Rambuteau (line 11). It's a 10 minute walk to République (lines 3, 5, 8, 9 and 11) and to Hôtel de Ville (lines 1 and 11). The 29 bus is a block away and the 96 (that takes you directly to the Luxemburg garden and to Odéon is a 7 minute walk away.
