Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday home in Rancho Mirage - The Biskra House
4 Bedrooms, 4 Bathrooms, 8 Sleeps
The Biskra House is a 3600 square foot home with the luxury and style of a boutique hotel and the comfort and convenience of a well-stocked private residence.
In the light-filled main house you will find living and dining rooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a large den with a fireplace, and three spacious bedrooms. The attached casita has a fourth bedroom with an en-suite bath, kitchenette and private entrance. Three bedrooms feature California king beds, and the fourth has xl-twin beds that can be combined to make a standard king, making us one of the only homes in the area to offer four king beds. The home and casita surround a courtyard with a large salt water pool, ample outdoor seating in shade and sun, and modern desert landscaping.
Relax in the living room with a 60-inch plasma tv, leather seating, surround sound, a PS3 game system/BluRay disc player (plays regular DVDs as well), DirectTV with premium movie and sports channels, and an assortment of movies and games. Record your favorite shows or movies on the DVR, or challenge your family and friends to a dance-off with the JustDance3 game and PS3 move controllers.
The open kitchen is perfect for catching up while you cook, with a Viking gas cooktop, convection oven and microwave, granite countertops, island seating for 4, and everything you need to create meals from scratch or warm up leftovers from the myriad of area restaurants. A spotless propane grill is available, along with a high-powered blender for expert margaritas. We have all the tools and small appliances you need and then some, including a slow cooker, rice maker, double batch ice cream maker, wine chiller and milkshake blender. If there is a specific kitchen item you’re wondering about, just ask.
Set the roomy (104-inch) dining table for memorable meals with placemats, chargers, dishes, silverware, glasses, and cloth napkins. There’s room – and chairs – for eight to ten people.
Take a vacation from the television in the sunny den, with a comfortable sectional sofa, chairs, a gas fireplace, built-in bookcases with plenty of books, board and card games, in-wall speakers and a receiver to listen to either internet radio or your own music device. It’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a novel, listen to music or catch up with family and friends.
All bedrooms have luxurious beds with high-quality linens, at least two sets of pillows, blackout curtains, flat-screen LCD tvs, BluRay players, DirectTV, and alarm clocks with iPod docks (they work with other smart phones, too). The three bedrooms with California King beds have en-suite baths with large frameless glass showers and plenty of counter space, and the fourth with two xl-twin beds has a roomy bath next door. Just let us know if you would prefer a king bed in the fourth bedroom, and it will be ready for your arrival.
In the private outdoor oasis, you can splash around in the large, heated, saline pool or drift away the afternoon on a foam pool floats. Enjoy meals alfresco at one of the three café tables right outside the kitchen sliding doors, or lounge in the shade or sun on the comfortable outdoor upholstered furniture. Enjoy lazy days in the sun with plenty of beach towels, outdoor dishes and glasses. The propane grill is easy to use, and the casita kitchenette is right off the patio, with full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, sink and storage to make outdoor entertaining easy.
You may find it difficult to leave the comforts of the Biskra House, but if you muster the enthusiasm, there’s plenty to do. Hike at one of the many trails within easy walking or driving distance from the house. Play golf at one of the area’s 80-plus public and private courses. Shop at El Paseo (the Rodeo Drive of the desert), the River shopping center (just one mile away), or the Desert Hills Premium Outlets. Enjoy a spa day at one of the many nearby resorts and casinos, or take a day trip to the mountain artist community of Idyllwild or Joshua Tree state park. Kids will love Knotts Soak City in Palm Springs, the Living Desert Zoo and Botanical Garden in Palm Desert, or the Children’s Discovery Museum in Rancho Mirage. Our guest information book has plenty of information on restaurants, activities and attractions, as well practical information about where to buy groceries, fill prescriptions and all the other ordinary stuff of life. For a true escape, let us help. Our resourceful and friendly house manager can arrange anything from restaurant reservations to stocking the house with groceries prior to your arrival, to finding the best golf deals for your trip. Guestbook comments from the owner
We've been coming to the desert since our boy, Jackson Cole, was 2; he is now 10. We have had the opportunity to stay in a number of locales/residences including La Quinta, Palm Desert (Iron Wood), Indian Wells and Palm Springs. Of all the different types of homes and condos we have rented, this was by far our best experience.
The house has nice design sensibilities. The layout and furnishings make it very comfortable, spacious and easy to feel right at home. The art selection and modern design features make this house a real jewel. Kudos to Beth and her husband—you will surely notice how thoughtful and inspired they were in remodeling this home.
Another great feature about this house is how well organized and clean it is. It truly felt like stepping into a hotel suite. The Fortune's have gone to great lengths to make sure you have everything you need at your fingertips and provide you with great information to fully utilize all aspects of the house including the TV's and music (surround). They've pretty much thought of everything relative to kitchen utensils, appliances and conveniences. Cheers!
The pool/patio is a private oasis. A quiet setting with the mountains framing the view made it feel like there was truly no one else around. The casita kitchen next to the pool patio was superb for entertaining friends and family.
Proximity to The River was an added bonus. We enjoyed taking morning walks to Starbucks just a short distance from the home. If you like to hike, there is a trail 2 blocks from the house locally known as the bump and grind. It’s a moderate hike that will take you high above the desert floor for some breathtaking views.
Our best stay in the desert....
I live in Los Angeles with my husband, Peter, and Riley Coyote, our spoiled Chihuahua mix. We live busy lives and love to escape to the peace of the California desert. We enjoy travel, good food, and spending time with friends.
A year and half ago Peter and I spent our first weekend in the California desert together. A half hour after arriving I saw an unfamiliar look of relaxation settle on my husband's face, and by the end of the weekend, we were both enchanted with the quiet, bright stars and blue skies of the desert. We started looking at houses on a whim, and lo and behold, months later we found the Biskra House. We loved the Magnesia Falls neighborhood, and although it needed a lot of work, we could see the house had great potential. We spent a year remodeling it, and the result has been a satisfying creative, logistical and (somewhat) DIY achievement. We hope you feel the same sense of relaxation we feel in this house, and that it makes you as happy as it makes us.
It was important to us to find a home that embodied the California indoor/outdoor lifestyle, and this house fits the bill. We love the intense blue skies, the mountain views, and, of course, the sparkling pool. Riley loves sunbathing and thinks that 3600 square feet is just about right for a 12 pound dog.
