We are semi-retired and almost full time residents. We have another home in southern California where our children and grandchildren live
Mary Ellen Turk purchased this house in 1995
We traveled the world seeking a warm tropical home where we could garden and enjoy the ocean--Anini is the prettiest spot we ever saw!
We, or a house sitter will always be there to advise you on shopping, restaurants, beaches, etc.
I just wanted you to know that we had a wonderful time at the cottage. The location was the best! The north shore definitely was the prime location. We went to Ke’e beach on Monday and snorkeled, and tried to hike the trail there. It was wet and slippery and I chickened out. My sister was bound and determined to hike back to the waterfall, and so she did by herself on Friday. She absolutely loved it! While on the island, we went to the canyon, kayaked up the river in Hanalei, visited the lighthouse, the botanical garden by Ke’e beach, but the best time we had was in the cove right across the street from the cottage.
On Wednesday, which was my 60th birthday, I had wanted to snorkel at Tunnels. We got there and the water was so rough and the lifeguard said no one could go in the water on the whole north side of the island. I was devastated. We went back to the cottage and walked across the street to the beach and saw that the cove was so calm. So we went snorkeling there and ran into this big guy! (see attached) It was calm and perfect snorkeling and the best birthday ever! We snorkeled there the next few days and saw this guy each day and a few other turtles as well.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know that we all had a terrific time. John was so helpful. He brought us eggs several mornings and was available if we needed anything. We used the grill one night and loved that we were able to make our own meals. It was also wonderful to have access to a washer and dryer!
Thanks again so much. I’m now trying to convince my husband that Plumeria cottage would be a perfect place for his 60th birthday next year
For a second year in a row we rented Plumeria...and we were again overhelmed by the hospitality, home, and location. This year mother nature decided to give us cool wet weather. The owner offered extra blankets and even jackets! Presents of fresh eggs, fruit, and even a New Years good luck dish made the stay so personal. My orthodontist husband and our engineer friend used the porch as their corner office and found the peacefulness conducive to fine ideas. I had some great runs as I prepare for my 65th marathon. We just love this place!
This was the perfect home for our family vacation with our two daughters (18 and 21). We loved the Hawaiian architecture and furnishings which made for a very comfortable stay. Mary Ellen left us a beautiful flower arrangement from flowers in the garden and Bill brought us fresh fruit. We had fun swimming with the sea turtles in the calm waters off of Anini beach and hiking, snorkeling and kayaking further up the coast. There were no mosquitos and frankly I didn't mind the roosters as it was the start of another wonderful day on Kauai. The hammock was incredibly comfortable and the outdoor shower fun. It was a very peaceful setting. Be sure to try the tacos from the truck near Hanalei Pier, Bubba's Burgers in Hanalei, and coconut macadamia nut fudge ice cream at Lappert's in Princeville.
After a busy week on Oahu, we were looking forward to immersing ourselves into Kauai's North Shore. What a perfect spot this was! First, the cottage is great (we travelled with our 2 adult kids and there was plenty of room for them to spread out), it's well designed for that location - excellent trade wind breezes through the french doors, deep porches you could enjoy even in pouring rain, dining porch screened in for bug-free dining, pretty yard very nicely landscaped with lots of fruit trees, quiet as it's set back from the street (which wasn't very busy in any case).
We did meet Bill, who spent a day at the cottage (we were away that day) with the cable company and refrigerator repair person. Cable has all been replaced and there's a new router, so that issue should be completely fixed. He's a great guy, we were happy to work with him.
I really liked the wood jalousie windows, hammock, rocking chairs, big grill, and the fact that you could stroll across the road to the beach. In fact, the guys walked the kayak to the water with little trouble, it's that close.
My daughter was in awe at the outdoor shower. I took a couple of showers there, too, and it was wonderful!
My wife and daughters (ages 23 and 21) just had a great week at this cottage. We loved everything . . . the size, condition, location, etc. were all just right for us. Just a short 2 minute walk to the beach and short drives to other locations like Kilauea Light House, Princeville, and Hanalei for wonderful snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, etc. Highly recommend. Working with Bill and Mary Ellen in advance was smooth and Bill came by at took care of a minor internet access problem right away. Thank you both. PS - The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because while Anini Beach is easy to get to and beautiful, the reef itself is not doing so well, and so the snorkeling is not good here.
Plumeria Cottage is very alfresco. Views from every window, which surround the cottage. All the geckos, in all sizes, are sooooo cute! Bill was very gracious! He brought us papayas on two separate occasions and fresh eggs from his chickens. Bill also checked the air in the tires of the bicycles and explained which kayaks were best in the ocean and which were best in the river. I loved the rainstorms, they were so refreshing and they went away as quickly as they came. My only negative comment is about the mosquitos. They were out in abundance and they really enjoyed our visit!
the house was perfect for a corporate get-away/retreat. My dr. husband and our good friend worked 3-4 hrs per morning at the round table on the wonderful porch. They reffered o it as the corner office. The walk to the beach afterwards was less than 5 minutes and beach chairs were provided. The beach was uncrowded and swimable due to the reef. I love to cook and the kitchen was great except the owner needs to sharpen knives.Dining on the screened porch was a delight. The house was so relaxing we found ourselves staying neatby rather than hiking the trails we thought we would. Finally,if you are a runner, the 7 mile loop from the house was perfect to keep my Boston Marathon training up. We will return!
