|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Rainforest Estate is a very exclusive, luxury property on over 9 acres of very private tropical lawns, gardens, creeks and natural rainforest near Port Douglas in Tropical North Queensland (TNQ). It is arguably one of the best (if not THE best) holiday rental properties in TNQ and offers a spectacular and convenient venue for a special family or social group holiday or a special occasion.
*** Please note, before you get too excited, we do NOT cater for rentals under 7 nights or for weddings or other private functions unless all guests are staying at the property (with a maximum of 16 guests). We make no exceptions so our apologies if this doesn't suit your plans.
The property contains every conceivable luxury including a two story high indoor waterfall, a western red cedar hot tub set in the lush tropical gardens and a huge lagoon style heated saltwater pool. Technology abounds with state-of-the-art home automation, wi-fi, security, audio and video systems throughout.
The extensive, spectacular tropical gardens, fruit orchard and natural rainforest (about 9 acres in all) are a haven for birds, butterflies and rainforest wildlife. In mid to late summer (February to May) the fruit orchard is in full harvest with all citrus varieties (mandarins, oranges, lemons, limes, lemonades, grapefruits) and 4 types of mangoes. We even have a year round mountain fed creek running through the property with fish and platypus.
Privacy is assured in this exclusive property. Your group will be totally alone and have the entire property to yourselves for the duration of your stay.
We can also provide all required services such as a private chef, tour guide, transport (including helicopter to / from the property), baby sitter, spa / massage treatments, shopping and daily servicing on request (at additional cost).
Hidden away in a secluded valley, Rainforest Estate is perfectly located and close to all tourist attractions and activities. The Great Barrier Reef, Daintree Rainforest and Atherton Tablelands are on your doorstep, as are pristine beaches, championship golf courses, great fishing, resort shopping, international cuisine restaurants and all retail, commercial and support services. A great base to explore the region or simply relax in luxury and privacy.
What's the best time of year to come?
The short answer is anytime. TNQ has a year round climate conducive to holidays and exploring. It also has two very distinct seasons, the 'dry' season (May - Nov) and the 'wet' season (Dec - Apr). This can be somewhat misleading however because its not unusual to get 2-4 inches of rain per month during the 'dry' season and only 4-12 inches per month during the 'wet' season. Being the tropics, most rain falls in the evenings or overnight leaving days clear to explore and experience the wonders of this unique region.
The dry season (winter) is our busy tourist season and is characterised by warm sunny days (75-85F), cool nights (60-70F) and gentle sea breezes (15-20 knots - great for sailing, kite surfing, hang gliding, etc). Rain is rare. Yes, this is what we call 'winter'.
The wet season (summer) is characterised by higher temperatures (85-95F) and humidity (70-90%), spectacular summer storms (usually in the evening or overnight) and nature teaming with life. It is not unusal to get 3-4 feet of rain per month (especially Jan-Mar) which means massive mountain waterfalls, tropical vegetation growing in front of your eyes and smaller crowds to deal with (and often better deals).
Of course the property has full climate control in every room so you will be comfortable any time you come.
Both seasons are well worth experiencing.
How long should you stay?
We know its a long way to Australia and to TNQ from most parts of the world, and that your vacation time is limited. However you will be very disappointed if you get here and realise you have not allowed enough time to at least 'hit the highlights' of our beautiful region, a dual World Heritage Area.
We always suggest you need a minimum of 6 clear days (excluding arrival and departure days) to see the 'must sees' e.g. the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree Rainforest, the Atherton Tablelands, the willdlife and nearby historic outback towns. And of course some downtime to relax. Therefore we recommend you plan on spending a minimum of 7 nights in TNQ.
However, you can spend many weeks or months in our region and still not see it all, so we never make any maximum recommendations.
Some (like us) have come for a few days and stayed a lifetime.
Can we advise you on the best things to see & do?
Yes, that's all part of the serivce.
We can advise and assist (if required) with anything you may need before, during and after your stay. This includes local transport, tours (organised and self-drive), restaurants, shopping, sporting activities, spa and massage treatments, special events (e.g. a wedding or special anniversary or birthday), an in-house chef, baby-sitter or personal guide to mention a few.
We can advise you on where to buy the best meat, fresh organic produce, the best range of wine & spirits and the cheapest gas.
We'll even do your food and beverage shopping for you so everything is ready to go as soon as you arrive (there's a small charge for this service).
We even do things like monitor the weather to advise on the best days to go out on the Great Barrier Reef and the best boat to go out on in any weather conditions.
We are not aligned with anyone, we simply advise what we think is best for you according to your requirements. All part of the service.
Or, we can leave you totally alone to enjoy your vacation time in complete privacy.
Why come now?
Finally, after years of a high Australian Dollar (AUD) making travel to and within Australia very expensive for most travellers, the exchange rate is now in your favour. The AUD has fallen over 25% against most major currencies in the latter half of 2014. In 2015, it is expected to fall even further (due to the declining value of our major mining exports and the slowing economies of our major export buyers).
There could not be a better time to come and see why everyone who visits our country goes home in awe and raving about the grandeur, friendliness and inspiration that is Australia.
And for the locals, for the very same reason, travelling overseas has become very expensive, so why not spend your holiday dollars closer to home and enjoy greater value than ever before?
We'd love to welcome you to Rainforest Estate in the near future so you can see for yourself why our past guests rave about Rainforest Estate and this spectacular region. The one thing they all say more than anything else is 'as good as it looks and sounds on the web, it's a great and fantastic surprise to find both Rainforest Estate and TNQ are even more spectacular when you actually get here. We highly recommend it to everyone.'
And now the bad news. Due to our recent retirement and desire to travel, Rainforest Estate has very limited availability for holiday rentals in 2015. We are however also interested in exchanging our spectacular property with similar properties in all parts of the world. So if you are interested in spending the holiday or special occasion of your lifetime at Rainforest Estate, either on a rental or exchange basis, please contact us very soon as we expect available 2015 dates to fill quickly.
