A builder and surfer from Wales en route to Australia and fell in love with the beauty and serenity of this Garden Island.
This is my dream property with its stunning ocean views and yet it is off the beaten track.
Fabulous sunset, ocean and views of the forbidden island, Niihau...magnificent night skies...privacy on 3 acres...9 hole golf course with beautiful setting and views...local coffee shop within five minutes drive...
Thank you for having the vision to create such a glorious place. This is our first time to Hawaii - what an introduction! There is one huge downside to this place: I did not want to leave the sights of Kauai. You can't beat taking in the view from the deck...needless to say we enjoyed our experience here immensely/
It was amazing! We especially liked relaxing in hamac while looking at stunning views after each day of exploring the island. Since we were arriving late at night from Canada, Neil and Sharon supplied us with groceries for the next morning. Equipped with a full kitchen and bar b q, we had great meals everday and were able to prepare picnics for our daily adventures. They also had a cooler, and a parasol and chairs. It was incredible to wake up and it was so quiet just the sound of the ocean off in the distance. Beautiful flowers and banana trees around the cottage. Just a wonderful escape. Thanks for everything. Definatley highly recommend this cottage to get away and just relax.
My wife and I returned last week from a 10 night stay at Neil and Sharon's beautiful Kalaheo ocean-view loft cottage and to be fair the pictures don't really do it justice. With the two sets of double doors to the lanai open the cottage is incredibly spacious and allows for unimpeded indoor/outdoor living. The cottage is situated in a private location along a windy one-lane road around a State Park so it's quiet, safe - and to be honest by the time you make your way down the long hibiscus hedged driveway you're a fair distance from the road as well which provided a little more tranquility to the cottage experience. We were there to celebrate our 5th anniversary and had plans to explore as much of the island as possible - we felt the location was perfect as you're only 5 mins from the main highway, meaning places like Poipu, Waimea Canyon, Lihue, Port Allen, etc are all quite close. On day's when we were going on lengthy hikes or exploring the north shore (Hanalei, Princeville, etc.) we made sure to leave early (usually by 6.30-7am) to provide extra travel time as the highway can be busy during the a.m. and p.m. 'rush' hours (and parking at popular day hiking trails fills up early). There are several golf courses nearby (we played 3 and cost was about $50-$80 each/round) and a plethora of restaurants for all appetites and budgets. Having access to all the necessities for a successful day at the beach was also great (snorkels, bodyboards, cooler!) and we learned quickly to keep that stuff in the back of the Jeep during day trips because you just never know what type of beach you may find yourself on, or what type of surf break you might experience on a day's travels! The island is gorgeous, and the cottage is perfect if you're looking to get away from that generic resort feeling, have a rental vehicle (must have!) and don't mind researching and booking our own activities (tip: you'll save 10-20% off most activities booking directly with the tour company and avoiding the use of agents).
Neil, Sharon - thank you. We had a wonderful time and hope to return again some day.

This cottage had the perfect amount of space; very open, private and peaceful. We enjoyed simply hanging out listening to the (non-human) sounds of the environment; birds, roosters, sheep, wind and chimes….and viewing the lush vegetation, rolling fields and ocean reflections. And so true, not a hint of mildew smell. Loved having a full kitchen!
One of our favorite parts of our trip to Kauai was our home. This is not the kind of place for those who want the luxury of the Grand Hyatt. This is for those who want to be away from the crowds, who like peace and quiet, who want to wake up to amazing views, and who appreciate rustic and charming. The jacuzzi tub was a nice touch, but the wrap-around lanai was what made the place. Great for relaxing and watching the sunset over the ocean. Not fancy but very comfortable and charming. Our massage therapists who came to the home mentioned that unlike most homes on the island this one did not smell like mildew.
this cottage is even better than the pictures show! beautiful, wonderfully made and decoration full of small details that makes you feel very welcome and at home!! the owner is a wonderful person, enthusiastic and with total care for his guests!!
our time there was superb! the location is very quiet and the beautiful views and the hammock don't allow you to do anything else besides relax!
Aloha and Mahalo Neil!
We had the best vacation ever! The cottage was so wonderful that we were comfortable just staying in or going out on adventures. We enjoyed the quiet, the stars, rainbows and the incredible bird songs in the mornings. My husband loved hearing the pheasants call in the fields
Neil and Sharon had every detail covered, chairs, coolers, and all the little things you may forget.
We have already recommended "our" cottage to our friends, and are planning our next trip back. The privacy was wonderful. I miss kauai.
