Previous guests have loved staying here and are willing to share their stories with you. One recent guest wrote this on October 29, 2010:

'Our group of journalists stayed in Paul Cooley’s Missoula vacation rental home during the Society of Environmental Journalists conference at the University of Montana. This lovely home is situated across from a park, and is near the university and the lively downtown area. We were welcomed with a nice assortment of beer and drinks in the refrigerator, and fine coffees. All the appliances are new, the home has lovely furnishings, the beds are comfortable, and as a host, Mr. Cooley checked in with an email the day of our arrival to ensure our needs were met. We were pleased, and felt fortunate to have located this gem. Please contact me if you have any questions I can answer.

I am a 59 year old semi retired professional who rents out his home in order to help me travel the world and country. I recycle your vacational rental dollars into my vacation rental tourist dollars all over the US and world. I am ex Grizzly and been in Montana for 36 years. If you are concerned about who you are renting from, I can provide answers and references.

Paul N Cooley purchased this house in 2005

I personally built this home with my own two hands. I lived in this home for many years before I took some time off to travel and when I return, I love sitting in front of the fire, reading in the morning. The home was completely remodeled 18 months ago due to a water leak and everything in the home is basically brand new. It is very special to me and my family. I have lived in Missoula since 1975 and I can help you find the enjoyment in it too.

Its only after living here that you truly appreciate the lower Rattlesnake, which is a true walking neighborhood. You can walk everywhere to the things you need or want to do and because your neighbors do, you will meet many of them very quickly. Once you get here, you won't need a car. You can have a drink with dinner and walk home. Walk to a baseball game, OUT TO LUNCH, or the library or Children's theatre. The best part for me and for you might be just sitting next to the fire reading.

GOOD LOCATION TO LIVE LIKE A LOCAL!

  • 4 out of 5
Thanks Paul for an excellent stay! I rented this place with my family of 5 adults and 2 kids. We enjoyed the location near Greenough Park with easy access to downtown via foot. The beds were comfortable, the green space across from the back deck was great for frisbee and pick up baseball games. The wifi was good, BBQ worked great and all appliances were top notch. It is a bit loud near the interstate if you wanted to keep your windows open for fresh air, but when closed the noise was non existent. Been to several VRBO's around the country and liked this place well enough to consider a return. Happy vacationing!

BETTER THEN THE PHOTO - GOOD LOCATION

  • 4 out of 5
We rented this home for our daughters graduation from the U of M. The location (being close to U of M & downtown Missoula) was great. We could walk everywhere. We even walked to the "M" - hiked it, walked to the Big Dipper (homemade ice cream) and walked back to the house! We liked the openness of the kitchen which worked well for having others join us for some meals. The bedrooms were nice and comfortable with good dark shades to block out the sun and allow a good long sleep. The park across the street made for an extension of the deck really - and soccer games were easy to watch straight from the deck while enjoying BBQ. We even brought a badminton set which was set up there. The facility was clean and up to date - deluxe washing machine & dryer was handy for doing wash and sending us home with clean clothes. It was also a nice quiet neighborhood. While my sister has done many VRBO homes this was our first, so I was initially nervous - and I really don't think that the picture from the web site shows how cute the house is. The little TV nook (not really so little) made for comfortable relaxing TV watching at the end of the day (and you can rent "A River Runs Threw It" at Crazy Mike's Video in the mall with the Albertsons grocery store maybe a five minute walk away. I am a tough ratings person and I don't know what would have taken it to five stars. It would have been nicer to have a few more pots/pans for cooking, but we made everything work and Paul was nice enough to offer us the left over paper products from previous renters & brought us wine too. I stay in hotels a lot for business and the hardest thing for me is having to go out for every meal. This was more like being at home - it was very comfortable and relaxing - even after all of the events around graduation. Would we rent this home again? In a heart beat. I have every confidence that you will be happy here. Enjoy! Just saw the note - would this be good for people with disabilities - well the bedrooms are all upstairs, but the deck, kitchen and one bathroom are all downstairs. You could sleep on the couch (which was quite comfy) and there are only a few stairs to get in the front door so...it depends on you, but it could work. Go Griz!

GREAT FAMILY GET TOGETHER

  • 5 out of 5
This house was perfect. It was very comfortable and located close to down town. Paul was very helpful and provided us with great information about the house and the area. We had a great time and our deposit was returned to my account before we got back to Washington State. We would recommend this home to other families. The park right next door was nice also.

OUR MISSOULA VACATION

  • 5 out of 5
We contacted Paul about renting his motor home for our stay in Missoula roughly a week prior to us getting there so it was kind of rushed. After a long day of flights and lay overs also a slight mix up with rental cars we arrived at the KOA in missoula to find exactly what was promised. The motor home was all set up and ready to be lived in. What a relief somebody out there is still as good as there word!!! Would recommend this unit to anyone and look forward to using it ourselves again for our yearly visit.

NICE PLACE.

  • 4 out of 5
The home was newly remodeled and we were the first to stay after the remodel. It was nicely furnished and the remodel was done well. Most everything was in the home for a comfortable stay. It is located RIGHT off of the freeway and close to a railroad crossing and; although, the freeway was not busy at night, the train whistle in the middle of the night took some getting use to. It was close to downtown and the University, which was very nice and the neighborhood was quite. We brought our bikes, but there was not where to store them out of sight. The yard had some planters with concrete caps on the corners that were not secure and our daughter got a nasty scrape when she stepped on one of them. It appeared the final touches had not been done on the yard. Overall, it was a nice place.

Owner's Response: This guest left the house in great condition and in all respects honored their contract and I can recommend them to other owners. I feel badly about their concerns, but they did not address their concerns with me before leaving a review or before renting the house but the location of the house is clearly indicated on the maps and its location is across from a park, which is next to a freeway. We certainly don't hide it. In fact, if you are looking for a hotel in the north side of the river, almost all of them are going to be close to the freeway or railroad. There are five hotels on the other side of the freeway equally as close and within a quarter mile including the Double Tree and Holiday Express. The freeway and railroad both run north of the river and the train is audible from almost all locations. If you are sensitive to such issues, there are not many locations that aren't located next to high volume traffic areas, but some are farther away than ours, which is not right next to the freeway, but is a half a block away, with the park being in that half block. Its probably a hundred yards. Google it to be sure if you are concerned. A traffic wall is planned but is not yet a reality.

There is a place to store and lock bikes to the west of the garage, and to the north of the garage, where they stored their float tubes, during and after their stay and if they had asked, I could have loaned them a kryptonite bike lock to put them on the porch. We encourage all our guests to ask questions if they have concerns during their stay and often we can help them out if asked. The house is newly remodeled and we rushed to be able to make it available for these guests and she is right, there are some minor details, that weren't completed. Please review our past guest comments and decide for yourself if the location is a significant asset or detriment for your stay. This is the best location in Missoula as far as I am concerned, but if you are sensitive to sounds, then it might not be the place for you. Over time that whistle becomes a friendly sound but to a sensitive newcomer, it can be unsettling. We had the house extensively soundproofed during construction. We think that the vast majority of guests would be fine as can be seen from the positive comments and no mention of the sound issues. Its a five minute walk from the riverfront system and a 13 minute walk to parks and downtown.
