About Sandy Yates

I grew up in Lewiston and love this unique border town so steeped in rich history. Lewiston is a little hamlet very close to Niagara Falls and was burned down in the War of 1812.. I know everything about this area , past and present and love interacting with my guests. I try very hard to not only welcome them but am intent on learning and guiding them to having the best vacation they could possibly have.

Sandy Yates purchased this house in 2008

Why Sandy Yates chose Niagara Falls

This is a wonderful property. The neighborhood is so quiet and friendly. It is only 3 streets of small houses and cottages with the wonder of Lake Ontario, right there in your back yard. Ot os a very special place and one can't help but bond and relax while there. It is so close to all the action, but yet it is wonderful to come home to peace and tranquility. !

What makes this house unique

There are so many benefits, it is hard to know where to start. The lake front is just. a few steps away from the house. Although it is private to only the residents of this small community, it is like having your own private lake because there is seldom anyone at the lakefront. There is a wonderful spacious living room with a wrap around couch that is so perfect for visiting with family and friends. I love dogs and even offer an extra service in which I can watch your dog with tender loving care, if you decide to take a long day trip to Canada or elsewhere. .

Home away from home

  • 5 out of 5
We came to Lewiston because our parents wanted to see Niagara Falls. We decided to celebrate their 60 years of marriage and our fathers 79 birthday. When we arrived we found our "Home Away from Home". There were 4 of us and two dogs and plenty of space for all of us. It was fully furnished and charmingly decorated. Sandy thought of everything from shampoo to laundry detergent; from salt to coffee filters. Sandy even had pastries and water upon our arrival...Just like a mom would. Lewiston was located at the heart of everything we planned for our vacation.
The day after we arrived, our Father suffered a stroke and had to be hospitalized. Sandy was a God send. I called Sandy and told her what had happened and she provided information for the nearest hospital, She gave us information on where to get his handicap sticker. She stayed in constant contact with us checking on his condition. We would have been lost without her help and knowledge of the area, which was invaluable. We will always be indebted to her. She has continued to stay in touch checking on his condition.
When our father left the hospital we returned to Sandy's for a few days so Dad could rest. It was a perfect retreat...it was so peaceful. We would walk him down to the lake. He would sit on the bench and watch the sailboats.
Sandy referred us to several destinations in the area that did not disappoint us.
From restaurants, entertainment and even to fishing charters, Sandy left no stone unturned. She literally thought of everything to make our stay memorable. Even with the situation with our father, we will never forget this trip, and we were still able to take our parents to Niagara.
We have mentioned her home as a perfect getaway for a quiet, peaceful, beautiful memory...which is what a vacation is all about. We plan to return and when we do, we will definitely check to see the availability of her place.
We know if we don't, it will be booked. We loved being only a few steps from beautiful Lake Ontario. We walked several of it's banks. We could also see Toronto on the horizon. What else could you ask for in a vacation. Sandy was the perfect host during our stay in upstate New York.

Excellent!

  • 5 out of 5
The house is on a corner which appears to be a double lot in a quiet neighborhood. There's one (messy) neighbor next door but it's hidden by trees and we didn't see anyone the whole week. It's about 50 feet to the waters edge (you need to climb down to get to it) and provides nice fishing and beautiful sunsets. The house was clean and the Living Room spacious enough for the 4 of us to be comfortable. The second floor does have low ceilings but that didn't prove a problem for us (we are just under 6' tall). Each bedroom was nicely put together and very comfortable. Niagara Falls is about 20-25 minutes from the house. We also visited Fort Niagara (right down the street), Lockport Canals (about 20-30 minutes) the Buffalo Zoo (about 40 minutes), Joseph Davis National Park (for fishing, about 15 minutes) and Whirlpool Falls and Devils Hole (both within 20 minutes) for walking/hiking.. We strongly suggest "The Silo" in Lewiston (Man vs.Food ate here). It has a beautiful lake setting, nice walking path and is completely sustainable (very important to us!). The pizza place/gas station in town has excellent pie. The small grocery store in town (Messoni's) provides alot but is pricey. Get the Discovery Pass at Niagara Falls, it's worth it and is an excellent deal plus they give you some coupons! Maid of the Mist provides you with keepsake ponchos. Cave of the Winds also provides keepsake ponchos and sandals. We took the advice of others and went to the Cave first (kept our sandals on, they're actually pretty comfortable) then went to the Maid. You have to carry all your belongings so travel light this day. We kept our lunches in coolers in the car and ate a picnic lunch every day by the Falls (eating in Niagara Falls is pricey). We cooked breakfast and several dinners at the house. We also ate at Bandanna's just down the road which was excellent and reasonably priced. Our cleaning deposit was returned within 48 hours! All in all it was a wonderful vacation. Thanks Sandy!!!!

Nice and clean with plenty of room

  • 4 out of 5
We had a last minute decision to go see Niagara Falls. This was our first trip and really didn't know the area or where to stay. I found the Home Away website and was looking for a pet friendly place to stay. We found Sandy's house and all worked out for the dates we needed. We really enjoyed our stay. This is a nice clean place with plenty of room. Sandy was available to offer any advice or help. It was a great experience and enjoyed our visit. Thanks Sandy for everything!!!

Peaceful relaxation at Quiet Lake House

  • 5 out of 5
Sandy's quiet lake house was a wonderful retreat! There is a lot to do within a 25 minute drive and it was a great home base. The house was very comfortable and peaceful. I travelled alone with my two dogs and wondered if it would be creepy, but I felt very safe there. My sister, her husband and two daughters visited during a rainy afternoon and we made good use of all the games in the loft. The large living room and sectional sofa made entertaining a breeze.

Sandy was a wonderful hostess. She had delicious baked goods waiting for our arrival from Di Camillo Baking Co in Lewiston. I had been told by another local that Di Camillo was the best bakery, so it was a wonderful treat to arrive to. Sandy checked in with me to make sure all was well and to give activity suggestions. She was incredibly friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The house is older and has some quirks, as noted in previous reviews, but everything was in good working order and very clean.

Activities.
The weekend I arrived, Lewiston was having a wine tasting festival in the park at the center of town. It was a lot of fun and all the people I met were incredibly friendly.

Fort Niagara is a short walk from the house. Follow Old Lake Rd to the dead end. There's a path about 6 feet in front of those stone pillars, and is only overgrown for about 20 feet. Stay to the right, and then you'll be walking on nicely mown turf along the exit ramp; just follow that to the park. It has a beautiful grassy area where you can watch the sailboats spilling out onto Lake Ontario from the Niagara River. There's also a pool and playground in addition to the fort.

The Artpark in Lewiston has some nice trails. I particularly enjoyed the one that followed the river gorge and ended overlooking the hydraulic station - just over a mile long walk one way.

I was fascinated watching the water at Whirlpool State Park. I thought that view was much more interesting than Devil's Hole. Devil's Hole has a staircase down into the gorge, but it's 200+ steps and I wasn't up for that. I was told that in Lewiston at the end of Center Street it's just 20 stairs or so to get down to the river, but I didn't get a chance to explore that.

About 15 min drive east is Wilson-Tuscarora State Park. Entry is $7; walking trails, small beach with lifeguard, and a long stretch of rocky beach where I let the dogs swim.

If you want small town charm and lots of opportunities to enjoy nature, visit here!

Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 out of 5
We visit family members in Niagara Falls and Toronto every year and chose this house because of the great location! Right near stunning Lake Ontario! Our family had a blast going down to the water and taking in the views of the Toronto skyline. We were close to historic Fort Niagara, Niagara on the Lake and the cute town of Lewiston NY which I recommend visiting. Sandy was very accommodating and made us feel right at home. She suggested many restaurants and activities in the surrounding area. She couldn't have been a better host! We were greeted with fresh scones from the local bakery and all the amenities we needed. The place was very clean when we arrived and I enjoyed the nautical theme of the house! We will definitely consider staying at this property on our next trip!
