Why the Owner Chose Kapaa: We built our cottage from the ground up and put all our love and energy into creating a restful, peaceful home away from home for our family & friends. The location is so central to all the wonderful scenic spots to enjoy on Kauai. The hubbub of Kapaa Town is a short 7 min. drive away, Hanalei Bay is only 45 mins, & Waimea Canyon is only 55 mins. away. And all along the drive north are spectacular lonely beaches that take your breath away. There's a reason Hollywood comes here to film! Kapaatown has the Best Farmer's Market too on Weds and a super fun Artwalk Night on the First Saturday of the month. You won't be disappointed at what Kauai has to offer! We have been living in the Hawaiian islands for over 30 years. After living on Maui for 14 years, we searched and found our beautiful property on Kauai in 1998. The view of Makeleha Waterfalls was too gorgeous to walk away from, so we decided to build our 'DreamHome' here. Fast forward a few years later and we now have our own 'slice of paradise'. We just had to share this great place with our family and friends, so we also built a separate Cottage which we named 'Mana Falls'.
The Hawaiian woman who actually named our street 'Ho`omaha Place' about 35 years ago, told me how she came upon that name. It means 'a place to Rejuvenate or Restore' and that is exactly how it feels to us and everyone who comes to visit. Just seeing the majestic mountains each morning gives me such peace and a sense of renewing my spirit. Meditation comes so easily here!! Hence the name 'Mana Falls' which you may know, is another word for Spirit.
We would welcome the opportunity to share our little island paradise with you and hope you will have a wonderful, spirit-lifting vacation of your dreams.
We built our cottage in 2007 from the ground up and put all our love and energy into creating a restful, peaceful home away from home for our family & friends. "Phenomenal Place you 2!!! We loved our stay with you and the ease with which you approach us and your cottage. Your Zen like vibes transcend into a tranquil and welcoming environment and made our stay in Kapaa all the more wonderful. Thank you for making such a lovely place available !"
Quiet except for roosters which are everywhere on Kauai
The cottage was beautiful, and the people were extremely nice. The roosters were loud, and crowed all hours, but that was expected. One thing to be aware of, is there is no air conditioning, so it gets very hot during the day. Also, it is kind of a drive from town, but you're probably going to be driving a lot anyway to see the island. Other than that, awesome views, friendly owners, and nice place. If it had air conditioning, it would be just about perfect!
Even better than advertised. Very clean, cute well-appointed cabin. Big enough for two people to live comfortably for a week. We enjoyed our stay tremendously, and highly recommend to others!
We spent our honeymoon here and loved it. We loved that Tony & Michelle have created this home away from home for others to rent. Michelle made gluten free banana bead and it was so good! Tony took us for an afternoon of Stand Up Paddleboarding on the Anahola River….spectacular!
They provided everyone you might need to make their cottage your own. The bed was super comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed.
We took each day as it came and made our plans that day. We drove all over the island, did some hiking and cooked almost all meals in. We did eat in Kapaa (we loved the town!) a few times and up in Hanalei too. Great food each time! We took in a whale watching/Na'Pali coast sunset cruise with Kauai Sea Cruises - they were great and the sights & whales were AMAZING! We saw so much!
The weather was really good too! Considering it is winter and it rains a lot, we had one day of a lot of rain and the rest with maybe a shower or 1hr long downpour. It was perfect! We had an amazing time here and we will definitely return! Tony & Michelle are friends we hope to have for life :-) Wonderful hosts & a wonderful cottage!
This place is AMAZING! We absolutely loved pretty much everything about it. In a quiet, residential neighborhood, with tall bushes and lots of privacy, greenery all around. The cottage itself is very new, cozy and clean, has everything you need. The place is very dark and quiet at night (which I loved!!!), a much needed break from suburbia living near highways and city lights. Amazing starry sky right in your backyard! You need a car to get there and go to places. Two things to be aware of: there isn't a real door between the master bedroom and the living room, and anyone needing the bathroom has to go through the bedroom. So it's not great for a couple with other travellers. This is one of the best places I've stayed at, and owners are knowledgeable and friendly, and recycling-conscious. It's a small island, recycling is even more important than usual. I would highly recommend this place.
The pictures of the cottage are spot on. This was a delightful place to stay. It was close enough to get to everything (you will need a car though), but it was outside of town in an area with plenty of room to not feel closed in.
The cottage was comfortable. The kitchen had everything you'd need to prepare snacks or basic meals. There were some basics in it. I don't know if the owner's stocked it or if things were left by previous renters -- spices, coffee, tea, condiments etc.
The bed was comfortable. There was closet space and shelves where you could unpack a bit. The bathroom again had some things in it -- shampoo, shower gel, sunscreen. The most important thing I found in the bathroom was a box of disposable ear plugs. The roosters on Kauai (and they are EVERYWHERE, not just here) have no concept of the fact roosters should only crow in the early AM. They crowed all night long. BUT, I found someone (bless their souls forever) had left a box of earplugs (The Dr. Macs foam kind). Using those, I slept like a baby!
We only saw Tony the day we arrived and Michelle when we left. We had plenty of privacy and time to relax.
You DO need a car to stay here, but the Kapaa area is a good place to locate. From there you can go around to the north end of the island or around to Waimea canyon very easily. We did one day in each direction.
While this property is away from the ocean, beaches are so accessible on this island it was no big deal. A short drive gets you there.
I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat .
Mornings are serene while you relax on our 3/4 acre property where 1000 ft Makaleha Waterfalls cascade down the mountains less than 1/4 mile up the road.
We are only a 1/2 mile walk to a Pristine Bamboo Forest with River Pools to swim in and Waterfall to hike to. You are also close to Beautiful Kealia Beach with Lifeguarded Swimming/Surfing and our new 14 mile Bike/Walking Path that can take you to Wailua Beach and beyond while watching Whales pass by. Other hiking trails and adventures are all around and easily accessible.
Kapaa Town with restaurants, nightlife, shopping, farmers markets, and other activities are also 4 miles away. Hopefully you'll be here on a First Saturday of every Month for our Artwalk/Street Festival Nite! Hanalei Bay and Na Pali Trail is about a 45 min. drive away. Waimea Canyon is also a 55 min drive. Lihue Airport is a 25 min. drive away.
Other Activities: shelling on many nearby beaches, kayaking on ocean & rivers, boating & deepsea fishing, surfing, wildlife viewing, and lots of wonderful spas nearby, too, that I can personally recommend!
Helicopter & Snorkel/Dive/Sunset Cruises are all a very memorable way to see our island and enjoy the wildlife we have here. NO Lions, Tigers, Snakes or Bears here :))
