|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
This is the perfect place to get away and look at the stars, swing into the idyllic sunset, or create your next group of art works. The property is very secluded and surrounded by protected land with mountain views and the most gorgeous sunsets. You can literally walk off the back patio and in a few minutes be in the middle of nowhere with no houses in sight, find trails and rusty treasures, and be startled by jackrabbits.
There is a fireplace, outdoor fire-pit, tikki bar, BBQ, 2 swing sets, art studios, outdoor shower, and horse tub....basically everything you could desire for a FANTASTIC time! This is a very special place, and the home and patios are handicapped and wheelchair accessible.
In the summer, the swamp cooler, horse tub, and outdoor shower are hi-lights. In the winter, the indoor and outdoor fireplaces and propane patio heater make for a cozy stay. There are many animals year round, including chipmunks, jack rabbits, roadrunners, quail, coyotes, etc. There is a bird feeder (seed provided) which is always bursting with activity.
The cabin is close to several local hot spots and a local guide and map are provided, though many guests don't leave the property after arrival.

I am an artist using this property as my secluded getaway, and it's far too amazing not to share! It is a 1947 homesteader cabin that I have equipped with all the modern accoutrements and lots of windows and sliding glass doors to enjoy the gorgeous view in all directions. (there's even a glass door by the toilet with mountain views)
Drew purchased this cabin in 2007
Because Joshua Tree is AWESOME!
silence, sunshine, the milky way, and the sun set
We had such a wonderful time at Sangri-La for the two nights that we stayed there. We particularly loved the backyard with the fire pit and swing set! Drew is a great host and everything was perfect. We will definitely be back again... next time in the spring or summer months.
The sunset from the back porch can lift one into the dark sky full of stars until laying you gently into a soft slumber of a still quiet desert evening. We can only discribe this place as a one of a kind oasis. It will lift your spirits and calm your mind. The desert can be a magical place if you slow down to its pace, this place will make you.
The proximity to Joshua Tree is perfect for those who enjoy the outdoors. Two recommendations. Try the Sisters cafe & Pie for the people. Both are yummy and easy drive.
Go to Pappy & Harretts for a bite to eat and people watching, it's a great crowd of locals and tourist. We did a Monday night open mic and the crowd was great.
Thanks Drew for the vision to take what you started with and end up with this. We are greatful.
I can't say enough good things about Drew's oasis in the desert. The reviews that describe it as "magic" are not inflating its appeal one bit.
1. Gorgeous views in every direction. East. West. And above. Sunrise. Sunset. The most amount of stars you've ever seen in your life.
2. Attention to detail. Has everything you need from a great coffee maker to spices to candles set out ready to be lit. Not to mention special touches like board games, swings and ping pong.
3. Cozy and comfortable. Smells good. Peaceful and quiet.
4. Very accessible to the town of Joshua Tree which has great restaurants and friendly people.
And best of all was Drew's hospitality, helpfulness and warmth. After having the good fortune of bumping into him when we checked out, it's no wonder that the house has such a great feel -- clearly a reflection of the man who found, restored and maintains this delightful house.
I recommend checking out the Integratron and Noah Purifoy's art center - both easily reached from the house.
I can't believe I never wrote a review for this place!! I had my wedding in April 2012 at Shangri-La. Besides be a breathtaking location for an out-door wedding & 100% affordable for a wedding on a budget - Drew is the most amazing, easy going, rad dude! He made my wedding effortless by being very accommodating & easy to work with. I recommend this spot all the time!!
Wonderful secluded home, a great place to create. We really enjoyed the silence and the stars. Drew was very helpful suggesting lots of great things to do and places to eat in the area. The property was clean, well maintained and very comfortable.
