The attractive, wealthy country town (15.000 inhabitants) in the north of the island is quite conservative. This is a benefit for its guests, here people still celebrate traditional festivals, nurture traditional crafts (i.e. linen weaving with so-called Ikats) and the beautiful, old town-houses. Pollenca can indeed be regarded as one of the art-centres of the island, with its 12 art galleries and the International Music Festival which takes place during the summer months. The Sunday market, with fresh fruit and vegetables of the region, attracts many guests of the fincas and holiday-villas. The Calvario with its 365 steps is Pollenca's landmark, the monastary mountain Puig de Maria is nearby a 'must' to visit. One of the island's most attractive golf-courses (9-hole) is 2 km away, the new golf-course of Alcanada with sea-views and 18 holes are 15 km and the beautiful beaches of Cala Sant Vicenc are 7 km away. Port de Pollenca is the harbour town of Pollenca with a nice sea promenade.
