Situated halfway up the hill of Castelnuovo dell’Abate and surrounded by olive groves, vineyards, and woods filled with oak trees, this stunning retreat offers a panoramic view of the Orcia Valley. From the main road, an unpaved private driveway leads to the villa. This unpaved road is not suitable for cars that are low to the ground. Even though Villa San Gio is in a very private location, it is only a 10 minute drive to the historic center of Montalcino, where you can find a grocery shop, pharmacy, post office, banks, restaurants, shops, and historic sites to visit.Villa San Gio has been lovingly restored and elegantly furnished, while maintaining its original Tuscan design. There is a swimming pool for guests to enjoy in the garden. Please note that the pool is open from mid-May through the end of September.There are many amenities such as high speed Internet, satellite TV, a phone, and a stereo.

In the front of the house there is an outdoor parking area, while in the back you’ll find a gazebo furnished with a table, chairs, and a BBQ for al fresco dining with a stunning view of the Orcia Valley beyond. Past the gazebo is a brand new swimming pool furnished with deck chairs and another BBQ.Villa San Gio is laid out on two floors. From the entrance hall, there is a large, open living room with the original terracotta tiled floors, an open beam ceiling, a stone fireplace, and a beautiful view of the valley. The adjacent family room on one side, and dining room (with table and chairs for 10) on the other, are entered through stone archways. Adjoining the dining room is a spacious kitchen fully equipped with a gas range, oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, mixer, Italian coffee machine, American office maker, and juice maker. There is a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer. In a more private area of the ground floor, there is a study with SAT TV and stereo. Also on the ground floor is one bedroom with a queen bed and en suite shower bathroom.The second floor is accessible by an open wrought iron staircase. On the second floor are three large and comfortable bedrooms; one with a queen bed and en suite bathroom with a shower, another with a queen bed, a fireplace, and access to the garden through an external staircase, and one bedroom with a double bed. There is also a bathroom with a bathtub.NOTE: ALL BEDROOMS HAVE A/CSitting atop a hill amidst a sea of vineyards and valleys below, Montalcino is an enchanting medieval Tuscan town filled with narrow alleys and steep stairs that have changed little since medieval times. Montalcino is famous for its delicious red wines; Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino. The town is surrounded by walls and dominated by the 14th century fort Fortezza (or “La Rocca”). From there, all roads lead down into the 2 main squares: Piazza Garibaldi and Piuazza del Popolo.Situated in southern Tuscany, Montalcino is only 40 miles from Siena, and easily within a day’s reach of many historically and culturally fascinating sites. The countryside between Sarteano and Radicofani is dotted with monasteries and castles, and the Orcia Valley itself is a beautiful natural site. Also available in or near Montalcino is access to activities such as horse back riding, golf, tennis, wine tasting, and excursions.
