VISIT US at wilmontbayretreat dot com and on Facebook

This is our family's retreat from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. It is a place to enjoy seclusion and peace. There are no roads on our side of Guanaja, only trails and boats. Our 'front yard' is the Caribbean. Reefs surround us on both sides and the barrier reef is about a kilometer away.

The scenic beauty is breathtaking. The reefs teem with life - tropical fish, eels, rays, sea turtles and nurse shark. The waters are clear, blue and pristine. One simply grabs a mask and snorkel and heads out -- no long boat rides to get there. The serenity and peaceful seclusion extends beyond the beach to include the surrounding trails.

The cabin is located on the beach. It is a one bedroom, with a futon in the living room. The cabin is air-conditioned with fans in every room. The kitchen is fully equipment.

Since we are located on the northwest side of Guanaja, we are blessed with some spectacular sunsets. Enjoy your coffee or your evening drink sitting on the porch watching the sea. The rent includes use of our snorkel gear and our kayaks. Come join us.

Guanaja is not easy to travel to. She is a rare, an unique and a disappearing jewel in the Caribbean. If you are looking to get 'off the grid', Guanaja is worth The Journey. You may even decide to stay.

Adventure on this beautiful island paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful adventure on this beautiful island paradise! The natural beauty surrounding us was amazing! Cindy had arranged for us to fly from Roatan to Guanaja in a private Cessna piloted by David, and what a fantastic view of the island and the sea from the air! She met us at the landing strip with Jorge driving the boat and we headed to Wilmont Bay retreat! Our cabins were perfect - very comfortable, stocked by Cindy with groceries and everything we needed! Cindy treated us with exceptional hospitality and friendship, and always went the extra mile to make sure our time there was memorable! We spent an evening getting to know many of the locals and ex-pats at a festival celebration. We enjoyed delicious meals with Charles and Cindy. We spent time exploring the deep blue sea on the Nimitz with Captain Jackie. We made a trip to "town" by boat to restock groceries. Bill, an excellent instructor, led my husband and son on a recreational dive, while Cindy guided me and my daughter snorkeling through the magnificent coral reeds with endless, colorful and fascinating sea life! What an experience! We enjoyed a tasty lunch at Bo's Island House on a pier over the water. We hiked up to a beautiful and refreshing waterfall! ... Have I mentioned the spectacular sunsets? And the interesting animals and wildlife around our cabin including Angel, our guardian dog, playful and lazy cats, many singing birds and hummingbirds, chickens, ducks, geese, a small barracuda that was a regular visitor around the dock, and a captivating parrot! My family spent our last afternoon there, including Cindy and a friend we met, snorkeling through the majestic coal reefs right off the beach from our front door! That was the highlight of our island adventure! Thank you, Charles and Cindy, for your gracious hospitality ... we are ready to return!

A Little Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Having traveled to Honduras before, I already knew what a beautiful country it is: a hidden gem of the Caribbean. But since the cruise ships have discovered Roatan, my husband and I were looking for a quieter get away. We found exactly what we needed and more in Guanaja. Where can you spend a whole day hiking to a luscious waterfall, walking on an untouched beach, snorkeling on a pristine reef and not see another human being?!! We lived very simply in Cindy's cabin, only steps from the water, but had all our needs met. When we arrived, the fridge was stocked with groceries we ordered in advance. Market day in "town" (which is a boat ride away, like every other destination) is only once a week, so don't count on a big variety of cuisine or "shopping" expeditions or restaurants to try. This is about slowing down, chilling out and enjoying some of the best nature has to offer. Did I mention THE SNORKELING?!! It was definitely a highlight of our trip. Cindy was a great host! She was so accommodating and easy going and invited us on outings to explore the island and meet some of the other ex-pats living there. It was the perfect blend of mixing it up with other people and just hanging out on our own. Usually a week long vacation is not nearly enough time to unwind, but I noticed when I got home how I felt as if I'd been away much longer, because the experience was so unique and transporting. If you've ever fantasized about living on a deserted island, this place would be a good trial run! I definitely plan to return for a longer stay next year!

What a place to getaway from it all

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. My whole family enjoyed the trip. My sons (18,21) found great things to do from snorkeling, to diving, fishing, and hiking. The place is great, is completely private and quiet, and it has a fantastic view, and easy access to a huge reef, and the accommodations are clean, and super. The island is a very interesting place to explore, from the water falls to the grocery store, nearby restaurants, and surrounding islands. It is a great place to getaway from it all.

One Of A Kind Vacation

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a relaxing, peaceful retreat with amazing views, but also looking for some adventure, you're in luck! By far the best vacation I've ever been on. The adventure begins as soon as the small plane takes off from Roatan to take you to Guanaja. When you land, you'll be greeted by a boat that will take you to Wilmont Bay, as there are no cars on the islands. The food was amazing, the sights were amazing, and it is the perfect spot for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life (cars, technology, work). Although I stayed as a guest of the owner, I can assure you that the other reviews are spot-on! Like most of the guests, we went diving, fishing, snorkeling, and took the boat ride to "Town" to get groceries. The different wildlife around the cabins are pretty cool too! They have three green parrots that fly around the property and you can hear them chattering and talking. It is really exciting just to sit on the porch with a cold drink and watch the sun go down. Last but not least, Cindy is really an exceptional host! She will make sure you have an awesome experience! Enjoy!

Relaxing Remote Getaway at Wilmont Bay

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks at Wilmont Bay during our honeymoon and were not disappointed! The adventure of getting to the island and then to the lovely bay (by air, by boat) added to the allure of this idyllic Caribbean spot. We received tremendous hospitality from our hostess, Cindy, and throughout our stay she went out of her way to ensure we had a wonderful trip, from helping arrange diving and hiking, to pre-stocking the fridge in our well-appointed, clean, & comfortable cabin with necessary goodies, and introducing us to the addictive Zambo's plantain chips. The animals on the property, particularly the chickens, geese, parrots, and "grobos" add to the classic Caribbean Island feel.

Snorkeling was definitely a highlight, which we did every day right from the beach, spotting everything from brightly coloured reef fish and gorgeous healthy corals and gorgonians, to moray eels, squid, octopus, and even nurse sharks! We also couldn't get enough of the fresh fruits, both from market day on Bonacca (which was a very cool experience) and the gardens on the property (loved the fresh apple bananas and pineapple). We caught a few fish, both trolling and bottom-fishing with a neighbour, although we are told October is the best month for fishing. Bo's Island House is worth a visit for a local lunch, as is the waterfall not too far from his property.

Overall, a fantastic trip. We highly recommend this retreat!

Best Honeymoon Spot

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I decided on Wilmont Bay, Guanaja for our honeymoon. It was the best choice we could've made! We were blown away by the natural beauty from the minute we saw the island from our descent on the airplane. The clear blue waters and rich green terrain highlighted Guanaja’s beautiful landscape and peacefulness.

Once arriving at Wilmont Bay, we couldn’t believe our eyes! The bay was pristine, and nestled behind the rich vegetation were a couple cabins for guests. After being greeted by Cindy, we instantly felt welcomed and comfortable. She showed us to our cabin, which was perfect for a couple. The kitchen was stocked with food we’d requested, which was so nice to make it to our final destination and instantly begin to unwind.

The next few days on the island were some of the most enjoyable moments of our lives. We spent the mornings cooking and drinking coffee on the porch, in the afternoons we’d go snorkeling or kayaking, and in the evenings we spent time with Cindy. She was a wonderful host and quite an amazing cook too! It was fun to hear about her family’s stories of the island over the past 20 years.

We felt comforted in knowing we were staying with someone who was very knowledgeable about Guanaja as well. It was like having our own tour guide who showed us the best places to kayak, snorkel, and also took us out on her boat for a trip into town and to a nearby key for lunch. She also helped us with our plane tickets, travel routes and money exchanges throughout the trip.

We would recommend Wilmont Bay to anyone wanting to relax and “getaway” from the stress and fast-paced environment so many of us live in. The only regret we have is not staying longer! We already miss the island, but we look forward to our next trip to Guanaja sometime soon!
