Great Fall Adventure!

What a wonderful time our extended family had while at this cottage. The owners met us when we arrived giving us a tour of the home - it was exactly what the pictures portray and has every possible amenity you would want. It rained for the first 2 days but that did not stop our avid fisherman and fisherwomen of the group from catching their share of fish on the river. We all enjoyed bonfires, and the fireplace in the living area as the evenings were a bit chilly. The owners were a joy to meet and to work with. Thank You for sharing your home that you've maintained so well over the past years with us. We look forward to another stay at this wonderful home!

The description was very accurate.

The property's been well maintained. The location is nearly perfect with a very nice view on Sodus Bay and some bars, restaurants, a gas station and Sodus Point Beach all in walking distance.

The owner's been very friendly and answered very quickly all to all eMail.

I would reccomend this property even for larger groups (like two families, for example).

charming family retreat on tranquil river

My large (2 adults, 5 kids) family needed accommodations while visiting the area for a family reunion. We found Dan and Irene Johnson's Seneca River Cottage to be very attractive, clean, comfortable and well-appointed. Everything we needed was there, from corkscrew and kabob skewers to board games, firewood and fishing poles (you'll need NY fishing licenses).

The Johnsons were very gracious and attentive to our needs, meeting us at the cottage and showing us around. I highly recommend this property, especially to fishing enthusiasts and families who just want someplace comfortable and private to relax and spend time by water. Port Byron is a stop on the old Erie Canal and of interest to canal enthusiasts. We visited nearby Camillus (suburb of Syracuse) for a canal boat tour. Half an hour north is Lake Ontario and of course, the beautiful Finger Lakes are nearby.

My only concern before arriving was that my kids might fall into the river. But THE RIVERBANK SLOPES VERY GRADUALLY, the depth at the end of the dock is only about 4 feet according to Mrs. Johnson, and we found it quite safe (I should point out that my youngest is 8 years old; with toddlers I'd be more careful). The Johnsons provide life jackets. We rented a rowboat from the Johnsons and my children were on the river or the dock all day with no worries.

I'll finish by saying that, because we have so many children, we usually rent houses when we travel. After staying at the Seneca River cottage, my husband said that of all the vacation rentals I've "dragged him to", this was by far the nicest!

We found this cottage to be very quaint and comfortable. It's in a great location for exploring the Finger Lakes area and is very reasonably priced. It offers privacy, but isn't far from the lakes and all they have to offer. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen doesn't have a full size stove, but does have a convection oven and microwave. We had rain every day of our vacation and still had a good time. The owners are delightful to work with.

Fun for the whole family.
Friendly Owners and neighbors.
Across the river from a nature preserve, lots of birds and wildlife.
Great clear skies for star watching.
(near "Mosquito" Point... which is especially true in late summer at dusk; so bring your bug repellant)
