Pared down barefoot luxury awaits you at Simplicity on Wilson Bay. Recently built to the highest standards, our house was deliberately designed to capture the prevailing winds with high bamboo ceilings, ceiling fans, French doors and plenty of windows that are usually open, making air conditioning redundant. Both bedrooms have oceanside French doors to the deck and are located in private wings. The spacious great room with ample seating, indoor dining and a fully equipped gourmet kitchen opens to the large screened deck integrating indoor/outdoor spaces.
The large garapa wood deck has a 'mosquito curtain' that allows you to draw it shut for those times when the noseeums are pesky. Evenings are spent enjoying the setting sun, pehaps even seeing the elusive green flash. Paradise!
We strove to make this Bahamian beach house more open than closed up to fully enjoy the sense of being here.
Come and enjoy.
Cat Island is known for it's excellent fishing - both deep sea and bonefishing. For bonefishing Bennett's Creek is a short kayak ride away or an easy walk, Orange Creek is approx. 15 minutes north for more nearby bonefishing options. We can recommend various fishing guides. Fruit trees and various vegetables have been planted - you are welcome to enjoy the 'fruits of our labour'.
The 'Rev' will likely show up weekly, peddling produce from his pick up truck , Also our neighbour, Danny King who lives across the highway will often have vegetables for sale.
There are a number of small grocery/convenience stores located a short drive away for all your staples.
Cat Island offers the adventurous traveller opportunities to explore beaches, ( we can tell you our favourite sea glass hunting spot), check out the caves and blue holes A must is a visit to the 'highest point in the Bahamas', the Hermitage.
For Scuba divers, Shanna's Cove is about 20 minutes to the north whereas Greenwood is a good hour to the south.
A small reef is located just to the right of our house and is easily accessible from the beach. We have plenty of snorkel equipment plus three kayaks for your use.
For flights to Cat island, there are 2 airports. New Bight in the south and approx 45 minutes from our house or Arthur's Town which is a quick 10 minutes transfer. Currently, the only scheduled flights to Cat Island are via N|assau. You should allow a minimum of 3 hours connection time in Nassau. For flights returning to the US. customs is precleared in Nassau.
We strongly recommend SkyBahamas. SkyBahamas flies twice daily between Nassau and Cat Island serving both airports Arthur's Town being the closest - skybahamas.net.
Southern Air has just begun service into Cat Island - so another option for flights from Nassau. http://www.southernaircharter.com/
Cat Island is a quiet island, do not expect night life, shopping or a plethora of dining choices. What the island does offer are the friendliest people, gorgeous beaches, some wonderful nearby restaurants, giving the opportunity to enjoy the 'art of simplicity.'
Cat Island pulls at your heart string - when the opportunity came for us to buy the most beautiful beachfront lot, we thought - why not! The rest is history - we still pinch ourselves on every visit.
My husband and I have traveled to all the various out islands over the past 20 years and rented every type of imaginable place from apt over store, fly fishing lodges, to small mini resorts, to 4 bedroom homes ....of course dependent on our focus for that particular trip.
This is our second time to Cat where we spent two weeks at "simplicity" then two weeks in the south to get the full experience of the island. Comparative to our experiences......."simplicity" was truly spectacular and the owners have not missed a thing from the layout (looove the outdoor shower concept) to the spice drawer! I almost hate having to give such a positive review......cause I'd like to keep this gem all to ourselves!
Truly the picture perfect place in all respects and extremely good dollar value. Spectacular.
We shared the house for a week with the in laws, and then, my wife and I indulged for two weeks of alone time, all the time enjoying every single minute of our experience. If you're considering renting the house and are down to a few candidates, stop now. This is it. No really, I mean it. STOP looking ! The house has everything. The Beach ? UNBELIEVABLE ! Perfect. Snorkeling ? Right there at your doorstep. Kayaks, bikes, etc ! Food ? Everything readily accessible, you'll need a car though, but most places on Cat do. But that's easy to manage, Danny King, car renter is your neighbor, he'll deliver the car to your door. You want secluded ? We hardly saw a soul for three weeks. You want to explore ? Cat Island is a gem from one end to the other. Wether you go north to Shanna's cove, best restaurant on the Island, with a nice stroll to Man O'war point, amazing beach at the top of the Island, you can also go south,: stop at Yardie's for an amazing fresh conch salad, climb up to the Hermitage, keep going to the indescribable Old bight beach, all the way down to quaint and charming Greenwood inn (beautiful wild beach), and all the way to Hawk's nest for some diving maybe ? Whatever you're looking for you'll have it. Outside and inside. The house is a destination in itself. Beautifully furnished, amazing looking and very practical kitchen, we loved cooking, hardly ever went out. Perfect deck to all day and into the evening, especially at night. And that's also something to consider. First time on all those trips we've been taking in the Out Islands, my wife and I really were able to spend our evenings out. The screens the owners have put up around the deck are a stroke of genius. Otherwise, the bugs do get pesky at night. Both rooms with their outdoor showers, and where would you want to take a shower in this tropical paradise ? On top of that, the owners were amazing at communicating every single detail about the house and the tips on the island. Let's also mention Debby, our very helpful and charming housekeeper. I'm telling you stop looking, you're here !
This was mine and my husband's 2nd trip to Cat Island. This time we brought along my 13 yr old son, 10 yr old daughter, and my parents. The house was just as described in the add, and the beach was wonderful! Debbie was a great help! Next trip, will stay here again! Not to mention Bill and Cathy were a lot of help with internet issues, as well as making sure we were enjoying our stay!
The owners of this property have done a great job attending to the details that make a difference.
If Cat Island is your destination then I can't imagine where would be a better place to stay.
Nice home, nice amenities and they have a great caretaker to accommodate any needs you may have while there.
The most important thing to know is that the beach and the ocean at the steps of the house are beyond description. Truly incredible.
We will return.
We are located directly on one of the prettiest beaches of Cat Island. Private ( one of only 3 houses on the bay) yet close enough to the other attractions of the island.
