Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday lodge in Mpumalanga - Kruger National Park - Swagat at Kruger Park Lodge

Lodge, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Settle into our modern and comfortable three bedroom villa within the confines of a secured resort and just 10 minutes from South Africa's flagship Kruger National Park (KNP). This self-catering unit, in Hazyview, offers a fully equipped kitchen with spacious open plan living and dining rooms, three full bathrooms, and a large outdoor deck with braai/BBQ. One en-suite bedroom has a king bed, another has two twin beds with its own bathroom while the third en-suite upstairs has two twin beds. All bedrooms have air-conditioning and block out curtains. Our self-catering kitchen will meet all your needs including a coffee machine, toaster, microwave, electric kettle, stove, oven and dishwaher.

Sip your favorite drink while enjoying the South African sunset over the mountains from the romantic, shaded balcony off the upstairs bedroom. Among the resort’s many amenities are a golf course, tennis courts, a hippo hide and plenty of kids' activities. Our villa is a minute’s walk from one of the resort’s three swimming pools (not the main one so less busy) and close enough to the hippo hide to hear them grunt at night. The villa is located near three supermarkets, restaurants, pubs and shops. Only 10 minutes away, KNP’s Phabeni entrance gate is one of the few that offer guided night drives to safari enthusiasts not staying inside the game reserve.

The open plan living and dining rooms give the downstairs an airy feel with views of the outside and easy access to the patio via two sliding doors. A large wooden deck with built-in grill/braai is an ideal entertainment area and a lovely way to the end the day. Double covered parking is available. A nine-hole 18 Tee Gary Player designed golf course, three swimming pools, and a restaurant are also on site. All bed linens and bathroom towels are provided. The lounge offers a wide selection of DStv channels on our flat screen TV.

Guests have access to all the following amenities provided at The Kruger Park Lodge:

On-site restaurant

‘Big Five’ game drives

Bird watching

4 tennis courts

Hippo hide

Putt putt/mini-golf

Gary Player 9-hole (18 Tee) golf course and driving range

Trampolines

Volleyball court

Conference facilities for up to 40 delegates

About Owner/Property Manager

We are Heeten and Jenny and we own Swagat at Kruger Park Lodge. Heeten is from South Africa and Jenny is from Sweden. We have two kids and have enjoyed the wildlife and safaris for many years. We enjoy self-drive safaris and believe this is a wonderful way to enjoy the world famous Kruger National Park.

Owner/Property Manager purchased this lodge in 2012

Why Owner/Property Manager chose Mpumalanga - Kruger National Park

Owning Swagat at Kruger Park Lodge is realizing a dream we have had for many years. Both our families love wildlife and are passionate about going on safaris -- we have been on safari in Kenya, Tanzania, and -- of course -- South Africa. We are so 'wild' about Kruger National Park in particular, that we even got married at a bush camp in the park!

The Kruger Park Lodge is a development with many amenities and this remains one of the main reasons we bought a place here. The place is immaculate and well maintained.

What makes this lodge unique

We wanted to find a home that gave us easy access to the Kruger Park. The Phabeni Gate is 10 minutes away so we can enter the park easily and come back to relax at the lodge.

To us, being in Kruger is at once peaceful and exhilarating: it is wonderful to be disconnected from the buzz of the internet and telephones, and to just take in the unique sounds, sights, smells, the air. And nothing beats the excitement of being the ones to spot a leopard or hear a herd of 200 buffalo thundering past the car. There is truly a satisfaction and excitement in spotting animals on your own, feeling like you are really in a wildlife documentary.

Beautiful house and park, excellent location, a unforgettable experience!

  • 5 out of 5
The whole package was complete at Swagat Lodge.
Starting with excellent contact with the owner, which didn’t stop after payment but actually increased, complements for that Heetan.
Especially thinking we miscalculated our stay by one day, but even that was solved before we realized.
The accommodation met all our expectations, and more.
The park is beautiful, quiet and we felt at home far away from home.
Thank you, and we will defiantly be back.

A phenomenal way to see Kruger Park

  • 5 out of 5
Swagat at Kruger Park Lodge is a wonderful self-catering unit, 10 minutes down a colorful road to the Kruger Park. The accommodations were perfect: a roomy thatched house with deck and brie, immaculate, tasteful, well-equipped and easy to come and go from. There's a hippo hide across the way where we watched hippos and egrets playing at sunset. The nearby Phabeni Gate to Kruger leads you to one of the best stretches for wildlife viewing in the park--in four days, we saw the big 5 and the magnificent 7, plus marvelous birds. Hazyview has local shops and some great places to eat: Summerfields Kitchen is top notch; also check out Sabie River Coffee and Topolinos pizza. Coming back to the lodge each day was a delight. We can't wait to go back.

We keep going back!

  • 5 out of 5
This was our third stay at Swagat, our home away from home. We keep going back because it's the perfect vacation venue for our family. There's the spectacular Kruger park, the spa and great food at nearby Summerfields, golf, swimming.... The lodge itself is spacious and comfortable. We'll be back before long!

Heavenly escape!

  • 5 out of 5
Thank you so much for a WONDERFULLY relaxing break - the house is simply amazing - thoughtfully decorated/stocked to make you feel immediately at home. A very close drive to the Park, restaurants and the must sinfully luxurious spa. Two swimming pools and a hippo watch to entertain the children, as well as some other fun animal friends to watch out for. A sunset braai on the huge deck is the perfect end to a fun filled day! Look forward to a return trip!

Great Accommodation

  • 5 out of 5
Well situated for those wishing to spend time in Kruger Park, just 12k away, which is something not to be missed!. Great base for exploring the surrounding areas - Sabie, Blyde Canyon etc. Lots to do in the area and a great coffee shop on Sabie Road! Accommodation very good, clean, comfortable and as shown in pictures. Heeten was great all through the booking process and available to answer any questions we had at any time. Staff on site polite and helpful. Restaurant, bar area, swimming pools, sports and play facilities all good. Hippo hide lovely and you can also hear the hippo in Sabie River which runs to the side of the Estate.

Best Experience

  • 4 out of 5
We stayed at Swagat Lodge, part of Kruger Park Lodge (outside the Kruger Park) in January 2014 for 4 nights.

To begin with, Heeten Kalan, owner of the Swagat Lodge was very helpful, prompt, responsive and played a crucial role in shaping up our itinerary. He not merely rented us the chalet at Kruger Park Lodge, but also assisted us in understanding various aspects of our trip to Kruger (since this was our first trip). He also called us while we were at the chalet to ensure that things are fine.

Check-in process was swift. The Chalet was nicely done up had three bedrooms and a functional kitchen, in addition to drawing and dinning space. There was a huge patio in the front of the Chalet with a separate area for barbecue. Also there is a 'pick n pay' very close to the lodge.

The Kruger Park Lodge has a very nice golf course and a water reservoir for hippo hide (and car wash facility too).

The only negative sides are, no wifi in the chalet (you need to go to the reception and buy internet usage time) and there is only one restaurent in the Kruger Park Lodge.

Access to Kruger Park was decent, it took us around 20 minutes to reach to Phabeni Gate in our car.

Overall, we loved our stay and will definitely come back.

The on-site Hippo Hide is a fun and relaxing way to observe hippos in the water. Our lodge is ideal to explore the Panorama Route and the Blyde River Canyon -- the third largest canyon in the world. Add fun activities likes zip lining, white water rafting, and a visit to an elephant sanctuary or a cheetah farm to your trip.
