About Bill Metzger

Bill Metzger is originally from Oklahoma, but has lived in Virginia for the past 35 years. Now semi-retired I love living on the Chesapeake Bay and near the small but charming town of Mathews.

Why Bill Metzger chose Mathews

The house has expansive views from every room in the house. At least 110 years old this house has weathered many storms and hurricanes. It was a working farm. In this area most farmers also were watermen with fishing boats.

The house has been modernized to today's high standards yet continues to maintain it's coastal farm house charm. It has everything a coastal property should have. A quiet slide into the cove for kayaks, boat loading ramp and boathouse that can accommodate two 36' craft.

What makes this house unique

The first time I saw this property, it was love at first sight. Nothing beats the expansive views and when the sun is at a certain angle the water definitely looks blue -- thus, Blue Water Haven.

It is a haven from all the worries of the world. Although if you want to stay in touch with the world we have WiFi and TV's in every room.

terrific Venue at Blue Water Haven!

  • 5 of 5

A family group of 7 gathered at this beautiful property to celebrate a 90th birthday. BWH is located directly on a creek a short distance from the Bay. The house is spacious, comfortable and very nicely decorated, having a mixture of antiques and traditional furniture. Every bedroom has its own bathroom, with two sharing another bath with shower. One of the queen-sized bedrooms is located in the first floor for anyone with mobility issues, and has direct access to the pool area. The kitchen has almost every utensil and plenty of condiments needed to prepare meals. If there is something you don't have, a 5-minute drive to the grocery or package stores in Moon will provide most anything. Over our 4-day stay, we ate all our meals at "home". There is a sweet converted porch that is off the kitchen, as well as an elegant dining room for a group larger than 6 people. The living room with its glorious view of the yard and creek accommodated our group in comfort. The salt-water pool adjacent to the house is immaculate and has plenty of chairs, tables and lounges for relaxation. The bath house contains lots of pool toys, as well as a croquet set with which we had great fun. There are canoes and kayaks to take out on the creek for exploration, and bikes to ride along the quiet roads. We were sorry to depart, and hope to return to Blue Water Haven someday soon! Thank you, Bill, for such a lovely stay!

Tranquility, Fun and Breathtaking Views

  • 5 of 5

We found this house randomly on VRBO without any location in mind for a long weekend away from NY. The house looked beautiful and the pictures do not disappoint. The house has been completely remodeled, decorated and is in pristine condition. We met the owner upon arrival and he welcomed us and showed us everything about the house and large property - he certainly takes pride in this house. The water views are amazing and in our four days there I did not see any boat on the water. Tranquil and beautiful - just views of water, sky and other vintage homes gracing the waterfront. Oh and the Osprey nest! The kids had a ball - crab traps, bikes, oysters, lawn games, hammocks and pool (too early in the season while we were there). Town is small and nice - had fun meals out but best was steaks on the grill at the house. Waterfront firepit for hanging out and s'mores. House has Canoes and kayaks but a bit early in the season when we were there. Visited Williamsbiurg one day - about 40 min away. We stayed at the house with our family - grandma and two families with 5 kids total and the house was certainly large enough. Family members from 3 to 75 loved it - and this is not an easy crowd! The location is remote (we welcomed that) and was a haul from NYC-Long Island for a few days but so glad we went and hope to go back. Thanks to Bill for thinking of everything to make this a great stay.

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Columbus Day weekend was the perfect time and blue haven in moon va turned out to be the perfect place for a family get together with our 2 sons and families. We found the house on vrbo and were intrigued by the description and the pictures. It was our first experience renting this way and we were a bit anxious. Our anxiety was wasted as this home is everything you see on the website and more! The owner met us there for a walk thru and it was like being with friends. By the time he left we felt at home. The appointments, the accommodations and the locale made for a special time. While the weather did not cooperate, it really didn't make a difference. The kayaks the canoes ,bikes, crab pots and fire pit provide fun for all ages. It was good to see a part of va that we hadn't been to and the quaint surroundings were worth the drive. We had thought we would visit some of the sites about an hour away but we were all so content to just enjoy our mini estate on the beautiful banks of the Chesapeake. The red moon one evening was superb and we enjoyed ending the adult part of the evenings at the fire pit.

We were all on withdrawal as we headed home. Great memories that we hope to return to in the future.

Thank you Bill!

The dining room table seated our entire group for wonderful breakfasts and dinner

Fantastic vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five had a wonderful time at Blue Water Haven. Everything is provided for an enjoyable stay and the property is really well maintained and beautifully presented. We stayed for 2 weeks so had plenty of time to enjoy all the home and area has to offer. We made use of the kayaks, canoes and bikes and hired a boat for part of our stay. The local town of Mathews has some lovely restaurants and a couple of grocery stores. It i an easy 10 minute cycle away. We also visited the historic triangle and Busch Gardens, all approximately 1 hour away by car. We have stayed at several rental properties in the U.S. and throughout Europe and this was one of the best we have stayed at, in the most wonderful setting.
