* Tour historic Fort Christian and Fort Frederik

* Visit the St. George Village Botanical Gardens

About Richelle Ahlvers

After vacationing in beach destinations around the world, we tried the US Virgin Islands and fell in love with St. Croix. We purchased our condo here in May of 2012, and rent it out when we aren't using it ourselves.

Richelle Ahlvers purchased this condo in 2012

Why Richelle Ahlvers chose St. Croix

We looked at condo complexes all over the island, but the relaxed, quiet atmosphere at Pelican Cove, easy access to the beach, beautiful pool, well maintained grounds, and open floor plans with large rooms in the condos themselves made it a no-brainer to pick Pelican Cove over the others. The close proximity to Christiansted and some of our favorite restaurants to hang out along the boardwalk didn't hurt either...

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was a wonderful vacation. When we got to the condo we found a clean, well stocked home base where we could relax, hang out, and enjoy a tropical drink or two between adventures around the island. It is located on the same property as the resort so it was easy to walk over to ask for assistance or grab a meal when we didn't want an evening out. The residents are friendly and the island small enough to navigate easily. We found some beach yoga classes, did some scuba diving and swimming, and a little shopping and sightseeing as well. All in all, a lovely relaxing vacation.

The free wifi was great. All our cell phones had good service on the island except for the one Verizon phone but it was nice to also have the wifi option for the iPad.

Wonderful Time in St. Croix at Dolphin's Paradise at Pelican Cove

  • 5 of 5

We (Marcia and Dave) spent an unforgettable 10 days on St. Croix - 7 of them at a cool, roomy and very pleasant condo. The rooms were spacious and open. Doors in the master bedroom and living room drew in a delightful ocean breeze.

The condo was very well equipped for vacation living and the owner did a great job introducing the apartment and recommending things to do. There's a beach just across a lawn from the condo and a good swimming beach at a hotel a couple hundred yards away via the sand. You can bliss out just watching the pelicans dive for fish there.

We found our days overflowing with interesting, fun and engaging things to explore on the island. But the apartment was a great place to lay back and cozy in.

Beautiful Breezes

  • 4 of 5

This is the second time I have stayed at this condo. I like the location on beach. You get nice breezes off beach and do not have to run air. So it is very quiet and you can open windows at night. Convenient also to have a bar and resturaunt next door. The beach here is not great for swimming but there is really nice resort north of condo called Buchaneer, where for a fee of $8 per car can use chairs and beach and resturaunt there. St. Croix is a pretty quiet island ( which I like) but there are a few good resturaunts within easy drive and a lot of nice beaches. Driving on left is ok because no overwhelming traffic like some other Carribean islands

Owner of condo is very nice and says she is planning some minor updates which condo could use. But,everything I needed was there. Enjoy!

Once in a lifetime (hope not) vacation. Loved it

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful relaxing time. The condo was inviting and very comfortable. At night we loved going to the beach and just listening to the waves. Big Beards cruise is a must. Angry Nates had great food. Need to try shrimp corndawgs at "you are here". Would love to go back. Highly recommended.

Dolphin's Paradise 2 week stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to St. Croix so we did not know what to expect. When we arrived at the airport, got our rental car and headed to Dolphin's Paradise it was very dark. Rachelle had given good directions, however traveling at night and not being use to driving on the left side of unfamiliar roads made for a slow trip. When we finally arrived at the security gate at Pelican Cove and the codes work we began to relax.

The grounds of Pelican Cove are well kept, the pool is clear, the condo is clean, convenient and well stocked.. Each time we returned from a days outing, it was calming to walk up the steps and enjoy the landscaped surroundings. Rachelle had arranged for food, drinks, cleaning supplies, etc. to get us going for a day or so. The fare is excellent at the nearby Palms resturant, ambiance great and staff friendly. Several grocery stores and K Mart are convenient. We loved drinking coffee and having meals on the porch. Beautiful view!

The boardwalk in Christiansted has many good restaurants with great shopping. We enjoyed touring the island, seeing Pt. Udall at sunrise, visiting both the Cruzan and Capt. Morgan rum distillerys, visiting Christiansted National Fort, touring the town of Frederiksted and going through the rain forest. We especially enjoyed the beach in front of the condo for sunbathing, laying under the shade of the palm trees, the tropical breezes, and reading a good book.

Our dining consisted of dinner one night at Kendrick's at Buckanner to see a beautiful sunset. We also visited Eat at Cane Bay, Duggans Reef for their Sunday brunch, Cheeseburger's In Paradise, La Reine Chicken Shack, Rum Runners, Angry Nates, Savant, as well as the Palms at Pelican Cove several times. Kiki & the Flaming Gypsies and the Mocko Jumbies for Carribean night at the Palms is a must!

We plan to return to Dolphin's Paradise next year. One of our best vacations!!!!! There is so much more to see and do. Rachelle is very easy to work with.

Convenient and relaxing place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay at your condo! We arrived on May 1st , 2014, for a 1 week stay. My husband did the St Croix 70.3 Ironman so we wanted a place that was close enough to race venue without being right in Christiansted, and had a kitchen so we could cook some of our own meals. This turned out to be an excellent choice!

From an athlete’s perspective, the location was ideal. It was about 15 minutes to race venue, and easy to get to. The kitchen was fully equipped and we cooked 2 out of 3 meals per day at the condo. 2 grocery stores are right on the way from Christiansted to the condo, making stopping off for groceries very convenient. It is very quiet, so napping and sleeping were no problem. If you are coming to St Croix for an event of this kind, this is a great place to stay.

After the race, we had 3 days to relax and enjoy the area and just hanging out in the condo. Our welcome packet, sent well ahead of our stay, had everything we needed to orient ourselves before we arrived. We took a taxi from the airport to the condo with no problems. The condo was very clean, and well maintained. The décor is delightful, sunny, island type décor with bright colors, rattan type furniture. Plenty of room to move around the condo and relax in the living room, the back patio, or set up your laptop at the kitchen bar or dining table. We stayed in the master bedroom and the bed was very comfortable (didn’t sleep in the 2nd room but assume it’s just as comfy!). There was plenty of room to hang clothes or put them in the dresser and get the suitcase out of the way. The toilet / shower area has a door to close it off from the vanity area and the bedroom which is nice for the one trying to sleep while the other showers.

The kitchen has everything you need to make your own coffee, snacks and full meals.

The back patio is quite large, with plenty of seating to enjoy the outdoors. The back patio faces the water, which is a short walk from the condo. You can see the water through the beautiful palm trees from the back patio.

If you like to sunbathe on the beach, there are chairs available at the condo’s beachfront. If you’d rather sunbathe by a pool, there is plenty of seating at the pool. The pool is quite large if you want to get some swimming in. We swam in the ocean in front of the hotel just North of the condo (walking distance… maybe 100 yds?), as there was less reef in that location.

St. Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands, with a relaxed and welcoming island lifestyle. With everything from tropical rainforest to national underwater reefs, there's plenty to see and explore.

If you'd like to learn how to scuba-dive, St. Croix's famous Cane Bay is a perfect location for your first dive experience, and don't forget to check out Point Udall, the easternmost point of the US.

There's also lots of local culture to soak in, so relax with some local Cruzan rum during a tour of the Cruzan rum distillery, or just kick back at one of the islands' great restaurants and enjoy.

Or, if you're looking for a quiet getaway, we can arrange to have your groceries stocked so you never have to leave the condo and poolside too. Whatever you decide, we know you'll enjoy St Croix as much as we do!
