Beach Bird is located in the quiet, low traffic, family-friendly North end of Sandbridge Beach. We specialize in and love family groups and reunions We have ample parking with the large driveway and gravel front yard, one of the few houses with the extra parking space. We are 500' from the beach, the path to the beach is right across from my driveway. You can turn right on the beach road to the life-guarded beach, or left past two houses to a uncrowded part of the beach. To the North on the beach about 5 miles you can see downtown Virginia Beach; in between is Dam Neck Naval Base where Seal Team Six is based. To the south you can walk 30+ miles all the way to the Outer Banks, but there is restricted access during turtle and bird nesting seasons. Five miles down the beach is a fishing pier and tennis courts. another mile brings you to Back Bay Wildlife Refuge which has guided tours and trolley tours in season, and spectacular bird-watching in the fall with many geese and shore birds over-wintering. There are numerous golf courses nearby and you will pass one on the way in. We are doing some major remodeling and adding a three story addition, (a long-time dream) this winter. The new first floor pool room with bathroom will be very convenient for the pool and patio area. It will also have a triple futon (double futon with twin upper). We will move the downstairs large side by side refrigerator-freezer there for more convenience. The second floor of the addition will have a queen bed and a large 12' x 32' deck connected to the 7' x 30' and 15' x 15' East-facing existing deck. The original house plan features 6 bedrooms and 4 baths, a great room with large kitchen area, dining and living room. In addition to two new sofas, we will have a larger dining table, as well as the six bar stools, and also transformer coffee tables, so large groups can dine together, one of the many good ideas we have gotten from guests. The bedrooms consist of a king master upstairs with washer/dryer and large closet with baby supplies, upstairs queen with crib, king and queen downstairs bedrooms down stairs sharing a bath which is just outside the doors and separated from the rec room by a hallway, so quite private. Off the rec room is a bunk room with triple bunk and twin with it's own full bath, and bedroom six with a triple bunk. The large rec room has a queen sofa bed and double futon for the convenience of extra guests who may be staying over the weekend, another request from our guests. We have a fully equipped kitchen; we have frequently been told that it is the best equipped kitchen our guests have experienced. For our guests convenience we also supply most sundries such as paper towels, TP, hand and dish and laundry soap and softener, and basic spices. Our goal is to minimize the shopping and bulk of these items for a week's stay. We also offer a linen package including washcloths, hand towels, bath towels, even beach towels, as well as sheets and pillow cases for all the beds so guests don't have to load up the car. We charge a nominal fee for the linens of $300, far less than commercial services, but this is optional. Most guests like this option so we continue to provide it. Some guests prefer to bring their own or use a commercial service. Ocean Rentals about a mile away which you will pass on the way in is one service, they rent most everything form baby supplies to surfboards. We do provide most baby supplies including Pak-N-Play, high chair, strollers to name a few. We also have beach carts, beach chairs and umbrellas, and a wagon. Our guests' enjoyment and convenience is our goal so we welcome suggestions. In many cases we have purchased and provided the item the same day, like the Keurig coffee maker one guest suggested. We are continually working on amenities and games. We have ping-pong, cornhole boards, all kinds of pool toys, and pool volleyball. We have smart TV's throughout. We have a basketball goal at the driveway and working on marking the driveway for a pickleball and badminton court. Since we have the extra parking, this should work. There is a great deli and small grocery store, Sandbridge Market in walking distance, and the Sandbridge Island restaurant next door is always popular. A large shopping center is about 7 miles on Sandbridge Rd., most will pass it on the way in. Downtown Virginia Beach is about five miles away as the crow flies, but 20 minutes by car since you have to go out SB Road to General Booth Blvd. There are many attractions including a Boardwalk, many restaurants, jet-ski rentals (the lady in the house behind Beach Bird runs it), fishing party boats and dolphin watching, and parasailing rides. Also an indoor sky-diving center! Notable attractions further away are the battleship Wisconsin in down town Norfolk, the Air and Space Museum in Hampton just past the Bridge-Tunnel you probably came through, Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, and Yorktown , the historic triangle another 20-30 miles west on I-64, also on the path many will pass on the way here.
